Probably never, since the PSP would have trouble running. And they'd take up too much memory on your memory stick.

Keep in mind. That PS2 games take up on average of about 2 to 4 gb. So it would really take a while to download it.

Why would PSP be emulating PS2 games when the 40GB PS3 (much more powerful hardware vs PSP) can't do it (yet).
It would be a marketing NIGHTMARE if SONY launched PS2 games for PSP before the PS3...thus it won't ever happen.

Well actually it depends. Now while just about all PS2 games nowadays use dvd discs and most of the fill those things to capacity, a lot of older titles used the blue discs which were cd roms. So those games would easily fit on memory sticks and whatnot. Tekken Tag Tournament and Ridge Racer V are two titles that come readily to mind of blue disc PS2 titles that could theoretically work in this capacity if an emulator was created.

The PSP simply isn't powerful enough to emulate the PS2. To emulate hardware, the system you are using has to be a lot more powerful than that which you are trying to emulate. Since the PSP is roughly equivalent to the PS2, it just can't happen.
That's not to say that they can't develop a port of a PS2 game that works on the PSP, but it would have to be made for the hardware of the PSP, instead of emulated as a PS2 game.
I would say never. Why would the bother. There are still PS2's on the market and hence it would lose any other possible business they had to the PSP. Besides, why would you want to play the old-school PS2 games on a 2inch screen (over-exaggeration)?
Just buy an 80GB PS3 :-P
