View Full Version : Underused advantages in sony ads & pr relations

Sometimes, i wish i was COO at SCE so that i could fix some things that are still terribly wrong. fact is, Sony is on a very good path now, but i think they should emphasis more on some aspect for ps3 to outsell competition.
Here are the things that Sony should relentlessly push ahead of its communication :
1) The online gaming is free. This is a real super +, and only now i see some ads in EU stating "free online gaming". it's a shame. They should just remind it at any occasion.
2) Blu-ray included : much better value for money. I can't understand how Sony is not clearly shouting about the clear better value for money for its hardware comparing to the competition.
3) Reliable : they should take advantage of the fact that ps3 is very reliable. it should be repeated in any PR relation : our system do not massively breakdown.

I see blu ray ads that scream "plays on blu ray players and playstation 3" all the time
Total 100% agree with this.
When I talk to a lot of people, they have no idea that you have to pay $50 a year to play online with the 360, or that the PS3 is a Blu-ray player. They have no idea that reliability has been a big issue with the 360. They just assume that all things are reliable enough. You start showing the value side by side, and the PS3 is really hard to beat. I mean for $400, you get a Blu-ray player, Wifi, and an extra 20gb of HD space when compared to the Premium. Not to mention 1.3 HDMI, slot loading drive, a way quieter system, no brick...

would be class if they had an advert that goes something like this:
advert starts and 3 red flashing lights around a power button glow brightly from a darkened room with a high pitched whining fan noise

as they continue to flash a voice appears saying something along the lines of "is this a familiar view from your seat???"
as soon as the voice disappears the ps3 logo blasts through a glass panel smashing it with some intense music (pendulum - slam) with random small screens flying around displaying nuggets of gameplay from some of the ps3 titles.
once this has given the impression needed eveerything goes silent and a voice not disimilar from the voice on the old ea sports games (ea sports - its in the game voice, u know the 1) says "PS3...faster, quieter and more reliable than the competition"
oh and by the way im not a 360 hater i have 1 and love it, would just love to see the the console wars get a bit down and dirty lol

thats awesome, id be all over it. id buy a 2nd one if they made a commercial like that, lol.

While im sure that would garner some attention from some "abused" gamers, I couldnt begin to imagine the lawsuit that would follow. You could be positive that MS would make Immersion look like a bum on the corner begging Sony for a few pennies.
Despite the successes of sony's recent comercials I think the xbox ones still have them beat, they show people games that everyone likes and show the large community it has, all without even once mentioning any technical specs. This is a MUCH better advertisment when you are appealing to the casual gamer with only 20 or so seconds to use. Technical stuff would probably turn most people off in an ad.
However, I do think that the features should be show prominantly in any PS3 section of a store, so that once the potential buyer is interested, he or she can learn more at there own pace about what they want to learn about, without having stuff they don't care about shoved down their throat.
I can see it now... but can also see Sony getting sued off this.
Imagine a PS3 ascend from the white room and in simple letters with the awesome deep sexy movie voice guy from the white room commercials.
"With the immense power and design of the Playstation 3 you'll enter a whole new world of reliability. You'll only need to buy one."
or something to the effect.

I don't see that many PS3 Ads accept the R&C one a few times which the blokes voice does my tits in, On the other hand i see tons of Wii ads and a few Xbox ads.
If I was thinking of buying one of them 3 consoles i wouldnt choose PS3 if i did not know much about (which alot of parents dont) The PS3 ones don't seem to catch my attention and show off what it can do.
An amazing console but not everybody knows that, they should show it off more.

I'm really getting sick of threads like this. We get the point ok. They need to advertise more. Free online, Blu-Ray player, and reliability. We don't need threads like this everyday. Admins need to start giving people 1 day bans for making threads like this.

especially the free online, I see the ads of playstation network on IGN. They should start doing included with the octopus commercials
the only one i don't disagree about is the first one...the other two are mute because they advertise about blu-ray all the time...i am sure you seen the spiderman version of the octopus commercial...matter of fact i am watching right now as i typed this...came on during the eagles game...the the third...you should not have to...sony already has a reputation for good hardware, so why should they have to state it...if they would i bet a lot of people would be howlering arrogant...
btw i thought i seen one of the commercials that says free online...maybe i am mistaken...

Sony is definitely doing a lot better with running commercials than they have in the past. Plus, they actually make sense! Since I've been back in the States, I've seen a ton of PS3 commercials. More than 360 commercials even.
Like on the other thread I guess SONY don't have a marketing department.
