Call of Duty 5 Confirmed
Guitar Hero 4 and more in the works too.
UK, December 3, 2007 - Activision Blizzard has confirmed that Call of Duty 5 and Guitar Hero 4 are both in development just hours after news of the company's merger hit the wire. And while the news is unlikely to come as a shock, if Activision Blizzard's recent boasts are anything to go by we could see both of the series reaching bigger and better heights.
Indeed, during a conference call held today Activision CEO Robert Kotick and Jean-Benard Levy spoke of the company's huge projected success and hinted that many of Activision's franchise could learn a lot from the success of World of Warcraft, which has 9.3 million users across the world. More specifically, Kotick expressed a distinct interest in the subscription model employed by the WoW developer, although quite how it will work with Activision's other franchises - including a new racing title from the freshly-acquired Bizarre Creations - remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, World of Warcraft won't be coming to console any time soon, with Levy categorically stating that a current-gen version of the game was most certainly not in the works.
In a press release posted along with the call, the combined company outlined some of the pipelined games that the Activision side of Activision Blizzard will be contributing to the mnerger and releasing in the near future. (Vivendi/Sierra/Blizzard of course have Starcraft II as well as several other titles in production.) Included in the list are:
* Guitar Hero IV
* Call of Duty 5
* James Bond (2008)
* Tony Hawk (new - 10th franchise entry)
* New Dreamworks Titles (various franchises)
* New Marvel Titles (various franchises)
* Bizarre Creations' New Entry in Racing (following September 2007 acquisition)
No further detailers were announced for any of these titles, and no platform plans were listed for the games listed. IGN will have more on all of these games hopefully early in 2008.

COD5 and GH4 are among the more interesting titles in the list. I expect GH4 sometime next year and COD5 in late 2009. ;)

No details have been released, but some are speculating COD5 will be based in the future, similar to Battlefield 2142. :|

Count me out. If I want futuristic I'll play Halo. Plus, Treyarch's last attempt at COD was a bust, so I'll pass.

Thats of course assuming Infinity Ward will not be developing COD5. ;)

They won't. I read somewhere that Treyarch is doing 5. I'll try and find a link though.

They won't. I read somewhere that they are already working on six and several people on here have already said that Treyarch is doing 5. I'll try and find a link though.
I will wait for an official confirmation on that, unless your link is official.

I was wrong. Several sites are assuming that Treyarch will develop it, but no official word. They are also assuming that it will be set during WWII.

Like I said, I'll wait for the official word. However, nine times out of ten these rumors are usually correct.
No one wants to go back to WWII. If anything, it should be an expansion of COD4 or based on Vietnam. Oh well, if it is Treyarch, I won't be picking up the game anyway...after COD3 I learned to stay away from Treyarch COD games. :lol:

Infinity Ward isn't doing COD5 yeah its terrible but they're supposed to be doing a new IP according to EGM, so thats good news. Garnett said that he got the vibe that they were done with it and wanted to try something new.
It's been confirmed that CoD is a yearly sequel, and will be flipped in development by Treyarch and Infinity Ward. I was ok with CoD3, so I'll pick up CoD5, but it'll be CoD 6 I'm more excited for.

If true then that would actually be great news. CoD 1, 2, and 4 are all I need for my realistic shooter needs (as far as CoD is concerned, after 4 it seems hard to actually surpass it). I want to see what else IW can do. They are slowly and slowly becoming one of my favorite developers.

Well, I heard that too. If that's the definite case, I hope IW gets a chance to create something new sooner or later. I'd think it may be quite tiring to keep on producing the same game sequel over and over again (especially considering that IW is the one that will create the game engines for CoD, which takes time).
Treyarch is a good developer, but CoD is IW's child. That's why it'll be hard for Treyarch to convince me to buy one of their CoD games, unless it looks to be of the quality that IW puts out with it.
I think it'd be incredibly fun to create a storyline and environment for a Call of Duty set in, like, 2200 or something. Then again, maybe Treyarch will do that...

I read somewhere, Kotaku I think, that they are going back to WW II, but in the pacific rim this time around.
Personally, I think it's a bad move.
I guess they're staying true to their, semi-new, let's milk francises ethos.
Horrible news.

IW is probably not developing it. Even if they are, it's not IW's fault or Treyarch's fault. Activision Blizzard owns the CoD franchise, Activision Blizzard gets to make decisions regarding said franchise.

Cant wait to play call of duty 1776. The brits are coming, the brits are coming.
screw Activision. I'm boycotting their stuff.
they seriously have been pissing off the community recently.
1. you can only use their LP controller to play GH3, and now they want money from HX for them to implement it for the PS3.
What happened to just using one guitar for all the games, just like with the steering wheels or flight sticks. I dont want like 2 different guitars for two different games.
2. Switching to Treyarch is stupid move... esp since it will be WWII again.
They've added online gaming to GH III so one has to wonder what else they can do with GH 4
