I'm sitting here at my computer and taking a look at my Blu-ray movies on my shelf and was thinking that if there is one thing that bugs me about my blu-ray movies its the overall packaging....

I LOVE the smaller boxes...

I LOVE the blue packaging (I also think the red HD-DVD packaging is cool too)...

I Love the cover art (both front and back) on most of the films....

but after that it really stops and looks almost like the studios are giving us the shaft and just trying to save money....

for example....

The Sopranos boxed set was pretty nice...I like the box, I like how each disc has a different character on it and i like how the episodes are laid out on the packaging...but on the clear plastic where the discs fit in....it says "DVD" above every disc...LAME...its BLU-RAY!....

my 3 films released through Columbia (tears of the sun, the patriot, black hawk down) pictures are probably the ones i have the most to complain about...first of all they can't even put them all in the same style box...and you open it up and the sheer lack of creativity for the disc art is insane...they all use the same font, and same design on the disc, and under the disc is just a blu-ray logo...BORING....

my 6 Warner films (TMNT, 300, Corpse Bride, Blood Diamond, The Departed, and troy) at least get disc art, but the rest of the packaging is crap....

I have Saw III from lionsgate, but its no better...

idk....maybe i missed the memo...but when im paying the money i do for high def media...and its supposed to be the ultimate experience, i expect to get the ultimate everything....instead (like in the case with columbia) you feel like all your movies came from some boxed set "best of" collection that are not from the original release...and give me some sort of book!...at least with a lot of DVD's (especially "extended" cuts or whatever) you would get small booklets giving you the scene titles and such, and outlining where extended scenes were and what not...

idk...i just feel cheated when i pop open a fresh blu-ray case and all i get is a white slip of paper warning me to make sure my blu-ray player has the latest firmware (thanks Warner!), or just a little 2 page advert for more blu-ray movies....

oh and i just HATE the packages that not only click shut, but then they have the extra "flap" on the side that locks shut....you have no idea how many times i go to open those and nearly break the case before i realize its "one of those" boxes....

ok im done with my rant....feel better now...lol

To be honest, I was a little disappointed that my superbad case has "blu-ray" printed on the top front of the case but my ratatouille case has it "stamped" (engraved, molded, whatever you want to call it) into the case. I don't know if it's OCD or what, but I like when things like that are the same. and I agree about the "flaps" on some of the cases. Give me ONE standard type of case and use it for EVERY movie :P

Disney definite does their Blu-ray packaging the best. They're the ones who have the silver Blu-ray logo that's "stamped" onto their cases as you said. Everyone else just prints a gray BD logo. All the Disney movies that I own have artwork on the inside of the case (so the reverse side of the paper that contains the front cover art) that gives you the movie chapters and all. All my major Disney BD's also come with an insert explaining some of the features and stuff. Unfortunately, Disney's cases are also the ones that have the extra flap when you open them.

Anyway, I don't know if it's only Disney that does these things but it's certainly nice. I've also noticed that not all of the BD case hinges are the same. It's very noticeable if you stand all your movies side by side.

For 300 I bought the DVD Special Edition with a tin case. I took out the sealed DVD, gave it to my cousin for his birthday and kept the tin and my bluray cover fits perfectly in it. :D

Every time I open up Planet Earth there is a at least two loose discs. The circular nub that locks the discs in place is way too short to hold it and I don't think it has any of those pop out claw things to grab the disc. It doesn't fasten the disc at all. Your just placing the disc on it so they can slide around in the case.

I don't mind the packaging but what I don't like in both DVD and BD cases is that some companies use the 5-6 small "hooks" that keep the discs inplace! They break easy and then the disc is loose all the time!

Some companies have gotten smart and now use the one piece button instead which is much better!

I cosider myself to be a mass market consumer. Mostly average,
somewhat uneducated, not tech-savy, rightly ignorant. But I love
my 14 blu-ray movies(none free). Never going back to 480 standard.

Everything you all said, i didn't notice with the details of each componet
with my blue cases, Just thouht it was this way. But then again, like a
coffee drinker, it's all basically coffee. You all are hardcore, nothing but
respect from me. Just my thoughts, thanks.
