View Full Version : Microsoft Seeking Acquisitions

Bloomberg reports that Microsoft chairman Bill Gates met with the company's seven division heads, including Chief Xbox Officer Robbie Bach, to inform them he wants to make more acquisitions.
"We are really looking hard," Gates said in an interview yesterday in San Diego. Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, is taking a "bottom-up" approach to acquisitions by asking managers to look for targets, Gates said.
What developers or publishers would you like Microsoft to acquire in the future? Epic Games? BioWare? Ubisoft?
I think Bioware or Epic Games would be the best option IMO.
Just a note, this plan does not only apply to video games. There is actually a decent chance that they may not even buy any game companies.
But if I had to choose one. I would go for UbiSoft. Better MS snatch them up than EA.

Oh lord, poor ubi-soft. They have to contend with being bought out by M$ or EA?? What kinda choice is that?? Sheesh, leave 'em alone and let 'em do their thing. I do, though, agree with Siren, my guess is this has more to do with security features for window... as in the acquisition of GIANT Anti-spyware.
True, but i want Ubi soft to stay indipendant, they are the biggest multi format publisher in Europe, so i want them to stand their ground

Oh boy Billy is getting his checkbook out, look out!
I say Epic would be the best buy because then they would own UE3.0. Microsoft games studio is already using it and by buying UE they would get their money back for the licenses and be able to give it to all of their 1st party devs. All those other devs currently or thinking of using it , including sony devs, woud have to pay MS aswell.
They could also take the technology and incorporate it into their own design tools and sell it that way. But i think it would be better to keep the UE name.
I don't think EA can get Ubisoft the Canadian goverment just gave them money and I don't think they will allow them to be taken over by EA that is Canada's biggest game company along with the silicon knights

I don't think that MS would snatch at Ubi-Soft just for some key facts that Sony is already using some of there stuff...and I don't believe they could get EA since they have and always created for both systems (More Sony then Microsoft though). I also heard something about Epic games....can't really remember what it was....I've heard rumors that MS was looking for a cut into Square-Enix....I just laughed at that rumor ....another rumor was they were going after Take-Two to nab the GTA series...though I don't believe that is going to happen also.
