So I am on the fence at the moment, and I can get the PSP slim for $120 so I am very interested! I am leaning towards getting one but I need some more reasons, my number one reason at the moment is playing PS1 games on it.
Btw my buddy says the battery lasts only 1.5 hours can someone confirm this? Or does it depend on what you are running? I read that playing games it can last 3-5 hours so does running homebrew stuff use more power?

Thank you for your replies!

The psp is a good system lots of games to choose from there making a GOW for the PSP so might want to check that out. The only downside to the PSP is the battery life.

The battery lasts a lot longer than 1.5 hours on my PSP and I have the original. I streamed the internet radio over my PSP last night and today for hours. That's using the speakers halfway up and constant streaming through WiFi, plus I change the station a lot. I'm sure the battery life would be much longer on the Slim.
The lack of RAM on my PSP is making it hard to surf the web anymore. I need to upgrade to the Slim anyway and custom firmware my old brick.

I rarely had my battery die on me.
I picked an extra battery pack and now I never have my battery die on me.

The battery lasts around 3 hours of continuous gaming.

It's not a DS.
Graphics are almost at PS2 level, some games are even there.
Games are fun.
Portable.
Music, movies, camera, gps (soon), internet.
Fun.

And more......

Well my PSP's batteries last over 24 hours/1 day...hmm,but when I'm playing whole the time,so is it 6+ hours,so go ahead, and get....if you don't need the extra memory sticl....headphones,and other things you'll get, when the Value Pack or Giga Pack gets released! but that's your choice....anyway there's many good games, and Tekken: Dark Resurrection should be one of games you'd get for your PSP as it's so awesome:P

why do you need convincing? if you really want one just go buy it

Yeah, I never got the threads people make wanting to get convinced into getting something. You either want to get it or you don't. It sounds like the OP wants one, so just get it!

I will not persuade you, I will intimidate. That's right, if you don't get one my Sony Ninjaz will get you.

Seriously though, God of war is coming and so is FF 7: Crisis Core and not to mention the already awesome games. Such as Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Syphon Filter (got 9.5 @ IGN) and other awesome games. Battery life is like 12 hours.

I just got a cheap PSP off the ebay with custom firmware installed and all that, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with these things. All those emulators and whatnot is basically my biggest plus for it. I'm gonna admit, if it didn't have homebrew I probably wouldn't have boughten one. So far the only games I have is FFT and Portable Ops, both good games but I find myself playing FF7 and Alundra on it way more.

Your friend is kind of retarded, the PSP never has 1.5 hour battery life no matter what you do with it. PLaying games it averages about 5 hours for me. Playing music with the screen turned off, it goes over 10 hours. So yeah...

But you must MUSt get a Hori Scree Protector for your PSP slim before you take the machine out of its package though, it's a magnet for unsightly scratches

Don't you have to buy a copy of opera or something? I heard it wasn't very good either, or maybe that was the wii version . . . if that even exists :???:

If you feel like you want to play PS1 games on the go, by all means get a PSP. I don't use mine much but sometimes I take advantage of the mentioned PS1 capabilities and I have custom firmware set up so I run homebrew games and applications. (legal applications of course)

As for actual UMD games, I don't have that many (probably 10) because there aren't a lot that are overly impressive.

$199 isn't bad for the starter pack, like the Daxter one. Its always the tax that kills you.

Oh of course. However, I haven't been screwed over yet lol and I have bought a lot of games on Amazon at least. Actually most of my games I buy them from Amazon and rarely from Ebay. I've only recently been on there vigorously because I need like 3 things: COD4, PSP, and a Motherboard.

Guess what: Just won COD4 (NEW COPY) for $46 which includes shipping XD AWWW YEA.

Are you convinced yet?

I am convinced though to get a 3rd gen PSP when it comes out. If there are no more news about it till September and the PSP keyboard comes out I'll sell my good old moded companion for a slim.

I think everyone has made very good points. Bottom line, the PSP is an excellent compliment to the PS3. Having the ability to access content from your PS3 on the go is just a must have for me.

Is there only blue tooth support if you buy an add on? Because when I searched it up it showed an add-on, unless the slims do and the phats don't?

No, the psp has wifi for internet and remote play with ps3, i play games on mine that i can't get for ps3 like Locoroco, FF tactics and GTA, i have some umd films too for when i am away from home.

The PSP does not natively support bluetooth. Please don't post misinformation.

If the PSP did support bluetooth, they wouldn't need this bluetooth hack:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/16/psp-ps2-hacked-to-support-bluetooth-headsets/

or this bluetooth adapter:
http://www.psp411.com/show/product/939/0/Bluetooth_PSP_Audio_Dongle.html

And it would say so on wikipedia (which it doesn't):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable_Slim_and_Lite

So, no, it doesn't support bluetooth.

As for the OP - if you have a PS3 and you want to play PS1 games, the PSP is definitely a good way to go, since you can play them on the PS3 and stream them to the PSP.

I'm on the fence about the PSP myself. I have the PS3, so remote play would be cool, but I'm just not sure how much I would use it. I have a ~50 minute commute on public transportation, but I usually read... being able to play games might be a nice alternative, though.
