What do you reckon is required for Rafa to be sacked? Outside the top 2?
Outside the top 3
If you fail to qualify for the CL then he's out on his arse
post #4,000 :p
Would they want to sack him though? Since he signed a new contract pretty recently id imagine they would have to pay him a lot of compensation...
I dont want him sacked, he's a good manager, he's just extremely stubborn and can't admit he's wrong, if something's not going right he won't change it, he'll try to force the situation till he's right.
I would love to see how Rafa would change Liverpool if he had the funds City have.

Yeah but you can say that about anyone. Hughes is a crap manager but with a bottomless pit of money City will break into the top 4 at some point and will probably win the league within 10 years.
The sign of a great manager is how they cope in hard times and making the best outa what they have. If Rafa isn't good enough to keep you competitve, and you have no real long term plan, he has to go right?
I dont think Rafa would get sacked even if we have a bad season out of the top 4, no doubt he has done wonders since taking over, and that always buys you some time and loyalty.
Liverpool have never panicked with the Manager situation , hence the small number we have had inthe modern game compared to some clubs. And that is without a league title in 20 years.

Typical Scousers, throwing your own manager under the bus in front of the entire world. I love the comedy that comes out of the anfield every year, especially when the fat waiter opens his mouth. He said "we can beat anybody in Europe", then they proceed to get their arse handed to them by a team with a girly name, and then Chelsea does the same. Love the circus rafa, thanks!

Who's throwing him under a bus? None of us here have said they want Rafa out.
I do recall last year when Liverpool handed a severe beating to United at OT the United fans started to question Fergies age and whether he should be retiring.
Think before you open your trap and flamebait.

The owners are putting the blame on Rafa in public. This is highly unprofessional, if something like this needs to be said, its better done in private.
Never heard anyone questions the gaffer's age. Liverpool beat all the big teams last year, lost and drew to scrub teams.......what did they win?? right.
and lastly.....

I think you'll find the owners aren't Scousers, they're Americans, as you'll already know. So claiming 'us Scousers' are throwing Rafa under the bus is incorrect, you'll find its the Yanks ****ing everything up.

Gerrard and Torres both doubts for tomorrow at the moment, doesnt look too promising coming off the back of 2 defeats.
Liverpool have confirmed that captain Steven Gerrard and star striker Fernando Torres will miss their trip to Sunderland. Yay, both our best players injured in meaningless games. Rafa will be spitting feathers.
Don't take Sunderland lightly, they very almost beat United

I have nothing against Rafa. What i dont understand is why he hasnt bought what we need. Who that is down to i dont know. Could be beacause of Hicks and Gillete. But its so blatantly obvious that a Premier League title challenging team needs more than one prolific goal scorer. As for midfield , well , replacing Alonso with someone who is injured was just rediculous. Even if Aquilaini does turn out to be decent its too late now.

Why does Rafa some exempt from being under fire? 3 loses in a row? 4 before the end of October in the league alone, a defense that looks insanely shakey and what has turned out to be a mid table squad.
Rafa should be bloody worried, if he doesn't win this weekend his head should be in the chopping block.

All teams win and lose, I think it's important to keep the coach to keep some consistency in the organization and the squad. I always say consider the players performance before you chase the coach out of town.

Pretty sure Rafa wont be gone at all this year. G&H wont cough up 20m+ just to get rid and Rafa wont walk because hes a class manager and wants to prove himself in PL. We were just outplayed tonight, simple. No-one lethal in attack that could hurt a defence with no accomplished CB. Time to come up trumps against Utd, Arsenal dont even come into my thoughts atm. Kelly was unlucky to pick up his knock, one of our best performers with Reina, hope the young lad gets more time. Worst squad? Were you around in 2005 with Biscan, Average Alonso, Cisse, Pongolle, Le Tallec etc etc? Bad form and injuries just hit us hard, our first 11 is MILES better than the 05 CL final and competes with any team in the world. **** G&H :cornut

Sorry mate, but blaming the Yanks don't wash with me.
Rafa makes the subs, Yossi off, Voronin on, WTF? Rafa insists on giving Lucas 90 minutes, he insists on keeping Carra in the team, he let Hypia go (incidently Bayer Lever are top of the league with the best defense). He wasn't prepare to give Crouch the team he deserved, he screwed Keane over something chronic, he let Bellamy leave. He replaced those 3 players with Ngog and Voronin, tell me how that is the yanks fault?
He has had just as much money as most other teams. Hell Lyon were put together for 60m and they out classes us.
In my opinion, Rafa has lost the changing room.
I guess it's just me clinging onto hope, due to the fact Rafa will be with us longer than the Yanks.
I never saw the Lyon game but from past Rafa goofs I expect nothing less than a WTHAYD (What the hell are you doing) moment when Rafa does something.

Buddy, we are in some serious serious sh**.
What if Torres is gone for a couple of months? Gerrard comes back against Manu and aggrivates again. We could very well be in the bottom half of the table come Christmas.
It's your typical Liverpool of the last 20 years, 1 step forward, 2 steps backwards.
Rafa didn't make the purchases he HAD to in the summer. GJ was a good signing sure, but with Arby in the team that 20m could have been used elsewhere. Especially now knowing that Kelly looks the goods also.
Not to mention the 20m spent on an injured player, there is 40m right there.
Could have got Eto and Robben for that, or David Villa.

Anyone who wants him to go is a moron quite frankly. He is a fantastic manager, tactically immense and is a brilliant man manager. Look at the turd he inherited from Houllier and look what hes given us now. Theres no top class managers to replace him that know the game as well as him in our current state behind the scenes and on the pitch. Were going through a slump, thats it. The same fans will be rearing there heads if we go 10+ unbeaten and saying hes the best in the world, every club has them. Just a case of getting a good win to boost morale and that will hopefully be against Utd.

the above are just a small example of the players that we wanted but couldnt afford. gillette + hicks must be laughing at how some fans are blaming rafa, its just what they want.
in the summer rafa was promised 20million plus player sales. he then finds out that this will also include contract extensions i mean wtf! plus he never got all the alonso money.
i mean how is he meant to get a good squad, with a budget like that?
oh and btw, how long did it take ferguson to win the league?
Not that it's any of my business, but I would be careful wishing for Rafa to be fired. If a new coach comes in at any team it's going to take time before they adjust. Your willing to let this whole season go to hell, just to see a new coach when they can do it in the summer if it's necessary.
Not really. Look at Chelsea they are doing fine.

totally agree with you. and one of the posters below was going on about hyppia + arbeloa leaving + how we could of kept them etc, but they wanted to leave, rafa couldnt do anything about that.
The number of players that we couldve of got over the years is incredible.

To me, that's the exception that proves the rule. It's a risky business but obviously if the coach has lost the dressing room then you need a change, but I don't think that's an issue in Liverpool.
Don't forget Cristiano Ronaldo you were linked with him
yep. we was going to get him for 5m but you upped it to 12m lol. it shows the difference
You can't really point to the players you never signed. Most top teams are linked with the players their rivals sign.
Arsenal were linked with Babel, Ronaldo, Torres, Kalou etc etc

I agree, Rafa is a great manager, people just get frustrated in the dark times and he can be the focal point.
He baffles sometimes but overall he is the man for the immediate future, Aquilani impressed in the reserves so that is a glimmer of hope on the horizon.
Just think we have to write this season off if we lose to Utd, but history will tell if it was a small blip or not.
Rafa has made progress and Utd had a 26 year gap or something between titles, takes time and patience.

Big one today .. even if we do win i dont see it having much impact on our title chances. I just hope we beat them because they're Manchurians. Oh , and Owen i assume is going to get so much abuse. I have a feeling Valencia might score today, but i really cant call the score, i can see 6-0 wins for both teams, exciting 4-4 draws, boring 0-0, average 2-0 wins for either, just one of those games where anything can happen.
i can see it being a 2-0 game

Could say that for every performance we have had. He pulled almost every string in midfield. Not a bad half to be honest. Id say we have had the better chances. I like how well Benayoun is playing cutting inside etc. Aurellio is having a good game too.
Liverpool have without a doubt been the better team so far. United have only had one goal scoring opportunity and that was Rooney's header. Liverpool have had 2/3. If Foster was in net and not Van Der Sar it would be 2-0 Liverpool by now.
I think we have been slightly the better team, but i'm getting insanely nervous every time they get a set piece and im quite worried about them on the break as well.

Torres in my opinion is the best striker in the world and Vidic is one of the best defenders, when you have two world class players go up against each other, someones gonna win, today Torres won again, because he is a world class striker, on another day Vidic could come out on top and he would get the praise.
Thats why United v Liverpool is one of the best matches in the world, you get world class players going up against each other every game.

I dont recall him ever winning against Torres.
Vidic is good. World class defender like Terry , Cannavaro , Puyol or Lucio ?No. Why ? Because hes proved on more than 1 occasion he cant cut it at the big games. Unlike Carragher who is ALWAYS there when you need him most. No denying that. People always go on about Ibrahimovic not being world class because he doesnt arrive to big games. Its the exact same case here.

That post is a carbon copy of one I wrote in the United thread. Glad to see someone else saying Vidic is not as good as people make out. He does bottle the big games, so does Ferdinand. He was poor against City and Liverpool.
I'd go as far as saying his status as a startling 11 player for England is in doubt unless he pulls his finger out and quick!

I see what you mean but big games in the premier league season are the home away games against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal which is 6 games out of 38 and that wont win you squat, the reason why i would call Vidic world class is because he shows up for the majority of games in a season and thats what wins us honours.
Vidic just dosnt play well at all against Liverpool and i can see why you wouldnt call him world class because of that, its one of the reasons he didn't get player of the year because of the game at Old Trafford last season.
Great result, very happy man, though I feel guilty for not having more faith in the week leading upto the game LOL.
Faith play to the Utd fans who have come on and congratulated us Reds, makes a nice change as feelings between the two sets of supporters can boil over sometimes.
Bit disappointed in the booing of Owen, I used to be a steward at Anfield and watched him from a young kid in the Youth team through to the top level and he did alot for the club.
But anyway hopefully this will kickstart the season and propel the team to seriously challenge for the top 4.

He didnt get POTY because the board were just ******ed and handed Giggs it out of sentiment. Vidic is top class, dont see how anyone can see otherwise, where has Carra been for the early part of the season? Puyol the season before last? Lucio is not near Vidic's level so cant really say him. Cannavaro got cut apart every time at the back for Real last year so hes out, Terry ill give you along with Carvalho. Its easy to say the games vs Liverpool, the final vs barca where he was poor but forget the other 50+ games where hes a rock at the back. Calling him half the defender Carragher/Agger is is just an immature statement Cliche conidering Vidas pissed all over Carra so far this year and he did last. Aggers clearly a better ball playing defender (see his random run in 1st half of the game) but Skittles is a better overall defender, tackles superbly, upfronters look scared against him and hes calm and collected under pressure from attackers. No. Agger and Skrtel are two different type of defender. Agger is more of an attacking defender who aint scared to get upfeild whereas Skrtel is in your face rough , ready and wanting that ball. I find it hard to compare the two. Its abit like comparing 2 of our wide players.. Kuyt to Babel. Kuyt is a workhorse whereas Babel is a speed demon. Again , just an example. ;)

You can't claim the ref as a factor, he was terrible both ways.

Yeah he finished well, I was very impressed with his hurrying as well. He did well leading from the front.

It's funny when 5 mins extra time was held up I thought, where the **** did that come from (Fergie time), and I had this gut feeling United would steal a goal, but when he brought Skittles on I don't know why but I said we'd hit them on the counter, and we did, twice.
Also, we scored in Fergie time....
Fergie's also blaming the ref, again... It's getting old now Fergie, just admit the better team won and leave the ref bashing.

He did admit the better team won. But is tiresome attacks on refs after every game is getting bloody annoying.
Suck it up and move on whiskey nose.
So... Big question, do we have what it takes to claw back 6 points from Chelski?
So... Big question, do we have what it takes to claw back 6 points from Chelski?
Straight answer? NO.
They look far far too strong.
Not unless we can stay within 6 points until after Christmas and bring in some real attacking fire power.
I guess if you win pretty much every game now until Christmas and go into the Xmas games with good form who knows!
We've all seen Chelsea lose now, they can be beaten remember!
Straight answer? NO.

Remember, Chelsea lose Drogba, Essien, Kalou and Mikel in January, that will rock their boat majorly, coupled with the transfer ban. If we stay, like you say, within 5-6 points of them they will be catchable in that period.

Come on mate, we all know that the ban will be lifted.

I'm hopeful, FIFA hate English teams, Chelsea is an English team, means they'll definitely use Chelsea as an example.
That was a penalty.
Was heart in mouth stuff there.
You can't claim the ref as a factor, he was terrible both ways.
There was a period in the second half where I think you got a run of 6 straight fouls which were all very dubious.
Berba shoulda been pulled up for throwing Kuyt to the ground in the box.
It goes both ways mate.
it wasnt a penalty. they analysed it on match of the day last night. the ref got it absolutely correct.
and yes vidic is scared of torres, wouldnt you be scared of the best striker in the world?

Vidic is scared of any striker with great pace and skill, it's his weakness. If Eto'o would play in England, he'd get beaten by him on a regular basis as well. At the end of the day Torres is the best striker in the world and if the midfield doesn't do a good job of containing him, any defence in the world is going to struggle against him.

And Carrager fouled Carrick in the box, even the commentators said it should have been a penalty. Then they went on saying how the ref was not used to officiating big matches like these.
what commentators? ... on sky there was no question he got the ball :dunce
its done now anyway what a win! :D
good win, although you beat united last season and then united went on to win the league....it was all your fault last year :P
But i dont think that Torres is the best striker in the world. thats just an outrageous claim. He is close, but not the best.

Hmm, don't be too downcast on that. Remember, out of the big clubs Chelsea have only played you so far. Whereas we've played United and City, United have played Arsenal, City AND Liverpool, and you've played Chelsea and United. So you can argue the rest of the teams have a... 'top 5 game in hand' over Chelsea, so to speak.
My point being there are still very real possibilities of them dropping points when you shouldn't.
@ss4ya so who do you think is the Best striker in the world ?

I can understand if you have a different opinion, but how is it an outrageous claim? Torres is stupidly fantastic. Great pace, strength, brilliant touch and skill, clinical finishing, shooting ability and a good header of the ball. There are some who're close in my opinion (Ibra, Eto'o, maybe Villa) but Torres is just a level above everyone else.
i dont know but personally i dont think that he is, i think personally that he doesnt have much over other strikers like Drogba, Rooney this season is looking more like he used to and Villa is another class act.
Dont get me wrong, i think torres is amazing, i just dont think he is the best. very close though.

I'm still 50/50 on the Carragher penalty incident, but thought he should have been sent off for the rugby tackle on Owen.
Anway, this isn't what i've come to talk about.
On MOTD Saturday night, if anyone seen it, Spurs v Stoke Salif Diao made a tackle on Kranjcar which Alan Hansen said was a stonewall penalty, even though Diao gets a foot on the ball before Kranjcar essentially falls over him. I'm just in shock that Hansen said it was a stonewall penalty, when the defender wins the ball.
I'm just wondering what your views on it were Kopkiwi if you saw it.

I don't rate Drogba has a player or person, his diving gives him no credibility at all.
I'd rate Torres as the best in the Prem by a country mile, not sure about the others as I rarely see them in action, I know I wouldn't put Ibra in the same catagory, every time I've seem him play hes missed sitters or been woeful at best.
If we get someone in midfield (like Yossi) to feed Torres through balls I'll bet he'll put away 90% of them, showed yesterday, one sniff at goal and he scored. Kuyt got into the same position but bottled it and tried to square the ball to Yossi.

Hate Liverpool with a passion, but even I'll admit Torres is the best striker in the world. Only one that comes close is Villa. Just look at his goalscoring record, it says it all really.

Andy Grey's a Manc fan so what do you expect.
Andy Grey ****ed up alot of yesterdays commentry, he stated only 3 Liverpool players on the pitch had scored this season, Kuyt, Yossi & Torres, if only Johnson hadn't scored those two goals.. He'd have been correct.
I hate Andy's 'goal voice'. He puts on a really deep grainy scottish voice when he says what happened when someone scored.
Now lets sign Silva and Villa to get our title push back on !!!!!! :snicker:snicker:snicker:snicker:snicker:snicker
I'd be highly surprised if we signed anyone at all in January.

Xelis, just look through clips and video footage of Ibra, watch the game last night against Zaragoza and pretty much every other La Liga game this year. He is a class act, brilliant awareness, class touch, beautiful overall play and his goalscoring record speaks wonders for him. Saying hes been woeful at best :( Torres is class, best in the business at leading the line and strikes fear into CBs. An 80% fit Torres like yesterday is as good as any striker in the world and steps up when needed throughout his Pool career. I see him being here for a long time, he just oozes passion and love for the club.

So how are you Scousers feeling about our CC match on Wednesday? Does Rafa play youngsters / reserves like Wenger does?

Not really that fussed tbh. Rafa played a fair few against Leeds but doesnt go all out like Wenger. Hope to see us line up like this:
------------------------Cavalieri-----------------------
Darby/Kelly------Skittles---------Ayala-------Doss/Aurelio
-----------------Spearing------Plessis(Off for Aqua about 60 mins)
Babel------------------------------------Riera/Kacaniclic
------------Ngog(Must!)-------Voronin/Pacheco/Amoo-----
Then fill the bench with dross no-one cares about :)

I'll be happy with that line up, although you just named our bench . Keeps our important players safe for the important games.

Yep.
Would be nice to see Aqua get a bit of a run out against arsenal. I'm really quite excited to see what he can do for us. Cant wait to see him play.
Also i wish Lucas could play like he did against United more often XD.
no one calling for benitez's head? :p

Nasri will likely play tomorrow to get his fitness back up so it'll be interesting to see how Aqualani plays against him.
