how the hell do i rasterize? obviously it means to finalize and take out the construction lines?
ya so how do i rasterize? this looks like crap...except for the inside lol
see....i need to apply this everywhere..around the stroke too. yes i'm an idiot

Right click on the layer in the layers menu, and it should give you the option for "rasterize".

i want this tropical look as a theme in my signature and wanted a background with palm trees, maybe a beach and a vulcano would be awesome
i found these on Google (although i suspect google is not the best place to search for backgrounds :suspect: ):

then on the second page of the tutorial which can be found here

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2030/win9dk5.png
here is the result. how do i fix?

EDIT EDIT ONCE MORE:::: i put another layer over it and it fixed a problem. i think they did this win the pen tool also ? look at the shape of theirs....you can't edit the marque with direct selection tool, right? here is mine....
http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/7562/win10hv8.png
and theirs http://www.photoshopbee.com/photoshop.asp?gor=10&page=2 (bottom of page)
i'm allowed to take screenshots of pages and post them right? at least not the pics?
anyway another edit lol:
so i did it with the pen tool applied stroke and outer glow. looks like crap?!
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/8659/win11zc8.png
theirs looks 3d and stuff...what gives

Well, you could make the image bigger, even if it lost quality, and then put in some motion blur, so it might look like this:
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/9484/backgroundts0.jpg
BTW any picture, if you know how to treat it, it can be a great background!

You shouldn't leave the default settings on you need to change the size of the glow so it is small and then maybe lower the opacity. Their's looks 3D-ish because they have a gradient fill. In blending options go to gradient overlay and set it on overlay/softlight.

What construction lines?

I seem to be having lots of problems when editing a picture (Not render, but pics in sigs.)

It shows you which tools are which, how to blend in renders and lots more. The tutorial learns you the basics of signature making on Photoshop.

PS. what could be done better in my signature?

PS nr.2: should i move the character a little bit to the right?

EDIT: here are my two new signatures of killzone liberation. Its only the color scheme thats not the same in these two. I basically used the same tutorial so i could learn everything. What do you guys think, which one of these two should i choose?

CAn anyone tell me what a C4D is? This tutorial i am using is telling me to add two C4d's

Well.. when two people love each other very much... lol

A c4d is this image you make in a program called Cinema 4d or something.
They make sigs look cool.

For example:

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i47/ps3forumsjm/kingdom-hearts.jpg

In my SOTW sig, the yellow thing going through the render is a C4d. THe glass effect in the background is also a c4d.

try www.thecoldesigns.co.nr, they have a few good c4ds there.

any idea how toi reduce file size yet make it readable?

roosters93
10-27-2006, 08:10
Well first, that doesn't "just" fit in the file size as the limit is 35KB.
I know, I know, it says the limit is 19.5 or something when you go to put in your sig... but to get around that thing:

1) Open up the .psd file
2) Click File -> Save for Web
3) Fiddle around with the qualirty settings until the number in the lower left hand corner is below 35K.
4) upload your sig to Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com)

If that doesn't work, I don't know how to help you.

i just use the rounded rectangle tool

Svetlana
11-07-2006, 16:09
It's actually really simple, The House.

Firstly, made a new document and fill it with a colour. Click on your rounded rectangle tool (I think you have to right click on the shapes tool to do this) and make a selection on your document.

Click on the 'paths' tab on the layer that you just made the rectangle on and right click on the 'shape 1 vector mask' (that's the name of the shape that I got on my Photoshop) and then click on 'make selection'.

Keep the feather radius as zero, the AA box clicked and 'new selection' selected then click OK. Now press control shift and I to inverse the selection. Next, select the layer with the colour fill and simply hit backspace/delete and you should have rounded edges on the signature.

Consequent layers will have to be control+alt+G'd so that the area where the transparent border is remains empty when you paint/draw/add text.

Obviously, to create a signature with rounded edges you'll have to create a transparent document and then save it as a .gif file to retain the transparent border. If it's not saved as a .gif file, white borders will be present.

Hope that helps everybody. It's really simple once you get the hang of it.

Where can i find them in Photoshop, is it just the "brush tool" or is there more, and what are some of the default brushes you can get?

Also, where is a good place to download them? (New ones are downloadable, right?)

That's pretty much all, i'll work the rest out when i know hot to actually get to them :D Thanks for the help in advance.

Simply click on your brush icon then click on the 'brushes' tab at the top right of the screen, click on the arrow and you can see all of the brushes you have. You only get a handful of brushes to start off with so it is a good idea to start downloading more from sites like www.deviantart.com (http://www.deviantart.com).

Simply download the brush, open up the adobe Photoshop CS2 folder, presets and then put all your downloaded brushes into (obviously) the brushes folder.

After searching for fifteen minutes to solve a problem I've been having with Photoshop CS2, I thought I should post here to help others who may be stupid enough to find themselves in the same predicament.

Basically, sometimes my Photoshop would load up and when brushing or erasing on a document, the brush shape would not appear beforehand. It was just a small cross-shaped cursor without a preview of the brush I was using. This was incredibly annoying as sometimes I'd find myself brushing/deleting areas which I didn't intend to.

To get your cursor back, simply press the caps lock while the brush is over your document. How simple is that?!

Here's a little tutorial-type thing about the functions of the tools in Photoshop. It's very useful if you've just started Photoshopping and are bit daunted by the amount of options there are.

Tool explanations:

Basic render blending & smudging:

Signature effects - blurring, lighting and gradient overlays:

Ok i have a quick question how do you add a border ???????

On the background layer in Photoshop, I just unlock it, right click > Blending Options > Stroke > then click the positioning box to inside.

Rep me if this helped. :D

No offence IWAO but you're a bit greedy. You ask so many people for signature requests. Adz has made you a great sig, yet you still go around asking for more.

On topic-how do you find a pic that gets a good render? I've got loads of pics of games to make a wallpaper but I can't make them all look well rendered.

Ask your questions about renders in the "post your renders" thread, more likely that you will get an answer there

Question, can someone show how to make a text look like its stretched over an area? i mean, i've taken a photo at school and i want to put a text in it. I wanted to put the text on a wall behind the character and used methods such as ditort, skew, perspective but couldnt get a good result. If you want to, you could fix it for me but i would appreciate if you you thought me how to do it.

THANKS :D

Do you want the text to look as if it was originally in the photo? If so, then you should first distort the text to match the perspective in the photo, then set the layer to overlay. Or you could show me the photo and i can do it for you.

Grim-Reaper, I always like the idea of the subtext being a different font from the main text, one of them has to stand out over the other, also maybe you can make the subtext look like blood, or at least the "blood" text.

It sounds like your PC doesn't have enough power to run Photoshop. You should avoid using smudge brushes over 50px that have large scattering distances as these significantly slow down the computer. What are your system specs?

Here you go:

Make a new Image at 1 Pixel Wide and 2 Pixels High. You can make this anysize you want. 1x4,1x50,whatever.

Create a new layer. Make sure its transparent.

Delete the "Background" layer.

Zoom in to about 1000%.

Select the Pencil tool, make sure you have black as your foreground color.

Make a dot on the very top pixel.

Select the entire image. Marquee Tool.

Goto Edit, then select "Define Pattern". Name as you wish.

Now in a image you want to put that on make a new layer and goto the "Layer Style" box. Goto Pattern overlay and select the pattern you just made. Change the settings to your liking.

Hope thats clear enough.

Best smudge tool? Well its a personal preference really. There really is no best brush, it just has to with what your trying to accomplish and what seems to look the best to you.

I don't smudge hardly at all. But you'll just have to see what one works for you the best, and each image might be different. So try what you got, get more if you have to.

But the best is hard to find for other people, gotta find it yourself.

softtack
08-07-2007, 16:18
Using a low DPI will make fonts smaller than they should be. You can check what Photoshop has the DPI currently set as by opening a new image or under Image Size. The default DPI is 72.

Phaded
08-07-2007, 16:58
I don't understand what you mean :p.

Voice Of A Riot
08-07-2007, 17:19
DPI stands for dots per inch, the higher the DPI the more detailed an images resolution can be. If you have a lower DPI than the photoshop default like Softtack stated, then your font size shrinks/downgrades in accordance with the setting. So just check your DPI setting, should be under resolution, and if it's below 72 then that's the reason why your text is ridiculously tiny.

If I understand you correctly, you just adjust the Tolerance of the magic wand. A lower value makes the wand more sensitive to color differences, and vice versa with a higher value.

Do what MrFenwick said or use Alt+Ctrl+Z to step backwards in your history or Shift+Ctrl+Z to go forwards. Doing this won't make it do the same thing over and over when you use Ctrl+Z.

GIMP is great for beginners but from my personal experience, not much more than that. Maybe it's because I was already used to Photoshop when I tried GIMP I never actually learned how to use GIMP so that might be a problem as well. My entire GIMP experience is me staring at the interface for 5 minutes, clicking various menus, saying "Hmm..." and uninstalling it. :) I suppose if you actually learned how to use it, it could be a powerful program.

I highly recommend that you try to get your hands on a copy of Photoshop.

Alright another question how do you make a custom gradiant map like a custom 3-4 color one? Or is that possible?
Also how do you upload brushes+fonts onto CS2

After you download the brushes you want go Edit> Preset Manager> Load then look for where you saved your brushes. Then click done.

Fonts is a little more complicated. Once you've downloaded your fonts go Control Panel> Fonts > File > Install new fonts. Then search for where you saved your fonts then click install.

Gradient maps are quite easy. When your in the gradient editor simply click below the preview bar, this will create a new triangle thingy. If you click on that you will get the color selector. Pick your color then repeat if you wish.

Go to www.bratz-design.net, and download some resource packs.

When you asked ps3954 about bratz design yesterday, I though you were kidding. I didn't know such a site existed.

Google Images is another alternative, although it isn't as good as Planet Renders or dA.

I got the brushes(but I need some good splatter bruhes anyone know were to fin that?)
But Fonts where is Control Panel?

Go to Start < Settings < Control Panel < Fonts.

You can find splatter brushes at www.deviantart.com

Alright I am getting a pop up that says example: you could not use brush tool because scratch disks are full.
What is that? it's preventing me from even opening CS2 because it can't upload default brushes etc...

A scratch disk error is usually a low memory and/or hard drive space error. Open up Task Manager and see how much memory you have free, and quit some background programs while you're at it. If you don't have enough memory, clear files off your hard drive and defrag it.

EDIT: I got it's working I defraged it.

Its happening again :( and when I defrag it the data that I just tried to delete is still there what else can I do?

softtack

Is your hard drive still full? You'll need to free up some space. A full hard drive is the cause of the scratch disks problem about 90% of the time.

Or do you have a bunch of brushes loaded into Photoshop? That can create problems as well.

Reckless

Ya I have alot of brushes and many saved sigs I have a couple questions.

-When I defrag it does it delete all my brushes?

-How can I delete my brushes when my phototshop won't open.

Phaded

As far as i know Defragging just 'refiles' your hard drive so to speak so that it's better sorted and thus makes it faster in loading. This is what i think is right anyway, im sure it doesn't delete things though.

Reckless

Hmm then it must be sometihng else because I've defraged it like 10 times and still no go.

softtack

PLEASE answer my first question or I can't help you. Is your hard drive full? If it is, you'll need to delete stuff. The scratch disks need a large continuous part of your hard drive.

Here is what I get when I defrag it all the memory spacxe used is in Compressed Old Files or Office Setup Files but when I defrag it I go to that window(the window in the screen shot) and it says all that data it still there and I can't delete it by hand if I don't know were it all is.

OK, how do you properly use C4D's? Are they supposed to be, just very low opacity, and then the main character full, and on top of it? I just need to know how to use them properly.

Reckless

Well I dunno for GIMP but CS2 I use Lighten Screen or color dodge mostly then mess around with the opacitty.

http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs18/f/2007/219/c/0/C4d_the_third_by_ps3954.png made by me

you can use them for large pieces like this one

http://fc04.deviantart.com/fs16/f/2007/212/a/d/metamorphesis_by_ps3954.jpg made by me

you can also use effect renders like

these-
http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs11/i/2006/175/c/0/C4D_Effect_Render_by_Ess3nce.jpg

and set them to linear dodge for effect like these

Oh, wow thanks PS. I'll have to try that sometime. And, any good brushes that are a must have. And if there are any, could you tell me if they are compatible with GIMP?

softtack
09-27-2007, 15:59
Photoshop brushes are not compatible with GIMP, so it looks like you're on your own with that. A Google search or searching deviantArt should yield some good GIMP brushes.
