Benfica eye swoop for Manchester United's Anderson
Anderson has failed to keep his progress chart on an upward trend and was dogged by knee injury last term. Now Benfica are keen to take former Porto player Anderson back to Portugal.
Manchester Evening News (http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/sport/football/manchester_united/s/1582871_benfica-eye-swoop-for-manchester-uniteds-anderson?rss=yes)*
Makes sense to let Anderson go now I think. Especially if we're signing another midfielder.
Bet it was his performance against Xavi and co for Croatia that made them want him. Madrid's midfield is starting to take the mick, Alonso, Modric, Khedira, Sahin, Diarra? Is he still there? Any more?
Yes and Yes. You forgot Kaka and Ozil.

If you can't have fun with a goofy song I just don't see a point to following football anymore. It's just a way of having some fun, not everything needs to be turned into doom and gloom.
I don't even really care about that, I just thought it was a great read on the subject of clubs in general selling their souls. Just the way it is in modern Sky-era football I guess. Very similar thing happening in Liverpool, though not anywhere close to the severity of it as under the last owners.

I don't know. I think Baines might be a good choice. I think both he and Evra would benefit from not playing every game and having that competition for the spot.
On Ando: I think, as the post details, he has the right tools to be a good player for us. That being said, I just don't think he's physically capable of playing regularly and I'm very unsure on his competivness. He doesn't compete hard enough to earn a spot in my opinion. So I'm of the opinion it's time to move on.

Academy recruit duo
United have confirmed*the acquisition of two more first-year scholars.
Goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira has signed for the club after a successful trial. The Switzerland-born shot-stopper, 16, will add to the options between the sticks for coach Paul McGuinness.
Sean Goss, who turns 17 in October, is the other new face after appearing for the Reds during last season's*Aegon Future Cup, helping the team to reach the final in*Amsterdam.
The Germany-born midfielder has sealed a*switch from Exeter City*and recently revealed he has always been a United supporter.

In a hilarious misunderstanding, Terry was asked to repeat evidence that he had been sent off four times in his career.

I don't think Ando likes playing that role, at Porto he was an attacking mid that played high up the pitch. But for someone that likes playing there he doesn't get enough goals.
Not sure about Ando we've been saying for a few seasons now this has to be his season, he needs to step up. He does it in patches. He seems over weight a lot and picks up injuries a lot. No doubt he's talented though.

Fergie calm on Berba future
"I do not need to herald the abilities of Dimitar Berbatov, he is a fantastic talent," said Ferguson.
"Last season he didn't quite get the amount of football he wants. At his age, it was difficult for him to accept his position in the forward line.
"He had Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez in front of him, and they are all young men.
"The boy has a future, but if he wants to leave it is a different matter.
"I am easy about it if he stays. I would be happy with that. But if someone comes in and Dimitar wants to leave, we will assess it."

Agreed, stay at Arsenal RVP!
Only way I can see it fitting is if are 3 strikers are RVP, Welbz and Chicho. Rooney and Kagawa rotating between the CAM position, but Kagawa would never get to play as Rooney is pretty much undroppable in Fergie's eyes.

Hopefully a deal for RVP does not hinder other deals this summer or next. Might just be the right midfielder isn't available this summer.
i think you might be right on that one, but then again, he said we wanted nasri, but then didnt he say he will go elsewhere?

I can't remember what he said about Nasri exactly but he might have confirmed an interest. Not sure.
I just don't know how we can keep Rooney, RVP, Welbeck and Hernandez happy. All four should be regulars. Rooney is obviously untouchable since he's our best by a mile and he can play 90% of the games in one campaign.

What about Shinji?! he is a PURE AMC, i assumed us signing him would mean a 4231, we really need to get away from the tired 442. If Shinji ends up on the wing, ill be fuming.

This is what Fergie said:
Fergie - Glazers are great
"I'm absolutely comfortable with the Glazers situation," said the 70-year-old boss.
"They've been great. So if you're asking me for my views, I don't have any complaints.
"I've never encountered opposition. They've always been as sensible as they can in terms of financing the team, and they have to invest in the team to maintain the value of their asset.
"I think there are a whole lot of factions at United that think they own the club. They will always be contentious about whoever owns the club and that's the way it has always been.
"When I came to the club, Martin Edwards was always getting pelted because he was going to sell to (Robert) Maxwell, then to (Rupert) Murdoch, Michael Knighton and when they became a plc there was disaffection.
"Then, when the Glazers took over, there was disaffection, so there have always been wee pockets of supporters who have their views... and there's nothing wrong with that.
"But I think the majority of the real fans will look at it realistically and say it's not affecting the team. We've won four championships since they've been there, one European Cup.
"I think the problem is they are not publicists. They don't go out of their way to seek good publicity. They are quite happy to stay in the background. Roman Abramovich (Chelsea owner) is the same."
Sky Sports (http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11667/7926096/)
The mistake I think people are making is believing SAF is speaking about the total finances of the club. He isn't. He's coming from the point of view if he's getting the money he wants to invest into the squad - which according to him he is. And if they invest the money he wants them to invest into the facilities - which they have.
Fans take a broader look at the total business, I don't think Fergie gets involved with that at all and for good reason.
I'd also like to know how many people that criticize Fergie for not criticizing the Glazers happily critique their boss at every opportunity they get?

It's all about expectations. Some fans seems to think there's football owners that owns a club because they love the club. I just never thought that was the case. In the end, Man City, PSG, Chelsea etc will get equally, or more, ass fucked as we are by the Glazers. This is business.

That's what it all comes down to nowadays, fans are struggling with coming to terms of being customers. And United probably have the best moaning customers in the world.
I think the last owner who loves his club is Dave Whelan and before that Jack Walker, there are not many clubs owned by people in it for the love of the club. The PL billions have seen an end to that.
I say stop the whining and get on with it.

£30m is a silly amount of money to spend on a 19 year old. He could do a Wilshere and just get cropped - not for granted he will come back at his best. But I guess that's the risk you take.

I don't understand Fergie going public on potential targets. It is either at 70 he has decided if you can't beat them join them. Every other club makes it common knowledge who they want, United normally do not. Or as I think more likely, season tickets are selling slowly?
I agree with that twitter bloke though, now his agent has come out and said its off. Sao Paolo might just want to cash in before the players 20% rises to the reported 30%.

I think Fergie goes public because it fits his plan. He's surely trying to put pressure on Arsenal and Sao Paulo to make a deal happen sooner than later. After going public about it, there's no chance Arsenal or Sao Paulo can say no bid was made etc. I think Fergie knows exactly what he's doing but it can still backfire.

But eventually he won't be there. It is a fact of life. He might get tired of investing in Chelsea or he will eventually die, we all do. Nobody walks the earth forever. Football clubs must learn to have contingency plan because the worst will eventually happen. A football club can live forever but its owner won't.

We don't have the same perspective as Fergie. He looks at it from the angle if he gets the money he needs to get the players he want's - which he does according to him and Gill. We (fans) looks at the broader perspective which I don't think he cares about.
So I wouldn't say it's not subscribing to the same views, rather we see different things from where we're sitting.
We are still in talks to sign Maura so fuck of DC with your crap, people can see what you are doing.
Yeah true, but it's something negative for him to say
The ownership is the only thing that really gets up a United fans nose, so ABU's love to pick at that bogie.
If its true about the float being shelved, not a huge surprise. Only a complete moron would have invested in those type of shares.
My gripe with Fergie is. He always goes on about not paying over the odds, but he doesn't mind how the Glazer clan purchased the club. From the outside the debt looks like it is holding the club back, yet he defends the owners whenever he can. And seems to have a pop at the customers/fans in the process.
The Glazers are here for the long haul. I take no interest in their other businesses, but I'd guess United is the only one still making a profit, even with its massive debt and crappy times. So would you sell it?
The Glazers bought a Supercar and are trying to run in on chip fat and have a manager who deep down is a tight sod = perfect match.
No wonder David Moyes is favourite for the United job when Fergie leaves, he's had the prefect audition at Everton.
Sahin going to come to the Premier League on loan according to Marca.. I wonder if Ferguson or Wenger are interested.. and out of the two who is more interested in the idea.

Not sure if it's true as Celtic would be after more than £7 million, hope he doesn't go anyway regardless of the price. Would do a great job for man u though, he's destined to play in one the big leagues I just hope we get a few more years out of him.

Manchester United boost in RVP chase as Juventus cool interest
Manchester United are in pole position to sign Arsenal's Robin van Persie after Juventus seemingly admitted defeat in their pursuit of the player.
The Reds have openly declared their interest in Van Persie and have had one bid turned down. Manchester City are also chasing him, but are under pressure to offload players before they can buy, much to the irritation of boss Roberto Mancini.

If we accept the premise that football clubs are corporations then China is a huge market not to be in. China has more growth potential than any other market bar perhaps India. Having customers there is a big deal. Eventually, you'll undoubtedly make more money from China than any other market.
Big biggie.

Chevrolet signs seven year deal
General Motors and Manchester United today announced that the world's most popular football club's shirt sponsor will be Chevrolet, beginning with the 2014/2015 season.
Chevrolet, the current Official Car Partner of the Club, will become only the fifth shirt sponsor in the Club’s 134 year history.

Yeah I guess. I just think the punishment shouldn't be a ban from playing. It should be fines. Bans ends up hurting the club more than the player, fines they can feel themselves much more. Obviously someone like Rio will be devastated if he's suspended because he loves playing for Man United but some players couldn't care less about a 2 games suspension I think.

The Glazers have done a complete u-turn and have shafted United. They will take HALF the proceedings from the IPO.
Quote from prospectus "We [United] will not receive any proceeds from the sale of the Class A ordinary shares by the selling shareholder."
#MUFC to only repay £73m of total £425m debt. #chickenshit
Net interest saving for #MUFC from this is.... £4.2m per year. #glazernomics
16m shares to be issued to #MUFC senior management under "2012 Equity Incentive Award Plan". That's why Gill has stuck around....
Will Sir Alex Ferguson be a beneficiary of the "2012 Equity Incentive Award Plan" total value $288m?
I hope Fergie isn't classed as Senior Management! That would be a insult.
Cost of this IPO? £7.7m. Almost two years' interest saving.... #glazernomics
Six Glazers will each get $25m from #MUFC IPO.
All quotes took from @andersred who is a United blogger.
I look forward to Fergie being questioned on his views considering the Glazers have completely changed the prospectus.

Either way, to get rid of them they're going to have to sell the stock. No way around that. They we're always going to make the best deal for them weren't they? If they sell those 10% that's 10% less they own. Losing the title next year won't help getting rid of them in a better fashion.

And yeah if they sell 10% they own 10% less. But they've valued United at $3bn (which is absurd) on purpose, even at $2.7bn and saddled with debt United are not attractive from a buyer point of view.
This IPO will not rid United of the Glazers. It will ease the debt but it's still not good news.

All man utd fans - read this - http://andersred.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/the-red-issue-forum-letter-to-sir-alex.html
This letter was written by long standing United fans who post on the Red Issue Main Forum, I didn't have any part in writing it but would be happy to sign it.
I post it here in the hope that it receives a wider audience, especially today of all days when the Glazers again show their true colours with an IPO that enriches themselves and leaves the club in debt.
Dear Sir Alex,
As lifelong Manchester United fans, we are disappointed and concerned by quotes attributed to you in a recent interview. Many of us are the same fans who protested to denounce Cubic Expression back in 2005. These are the same fans who had previously offered you their unwavering support during your private dispute over Rock of Gibraltar's breeding rights, despite Cubic Expression raising some very pertinent questions. In the spirit of fairness, we would like to invite you to clarify these comments by responding to a brief summary of our concerns:
1. You suggested that ‘the majority of real fans will look at it [Glazer ownership] and see that it’s not affecting the team’. Can you clarify what constitutes a real fan?
2. With thousands of fans leaving the club in protest over the Glazer regime, do you consider these time-served reds to be less than real fans?
3. Have you personally met with any of the dissenters to determine how deep their commitment and affection for United may be?
4. What are your thoughts on an atmosphere which gets markedly worse each season as more and more local, traditional fans are marginalised and alienated from the club?
5. You are also quoted in the interview as claiming ‘I’m absolutely comfortable with the Glazers situation. They’ve been great’. You are clearly aware of the opposition from the United fan base - does that not make you uncomfortable in any way?
6. What, in your view, would constitute poor owners?
7. You have repeatedly claimed to have been backed financially whenever you have requested transfer funds. Is this your only consideration when determining what represents great ownership?
8. You continued the interview by saying that, ‘the salaries, agent fees – is just getting ridiculous now’. Whilst we agree in tone, it does represent a sea change in attitude from pre Glazer transfers. Agent fees in both the Ferdinand and Rooney transfers were criticised at the time for being excessive, so why does the club now refuse to meet market conditions for the top players?
9. Do you believe Jorge Mendes’s £2.6m cut of the Bébé transfer, a full 35% of the total fee paid, represented good value?
10. With more than £250k leaving the club each day to service the Glazer debt, totalling over £500m since the takeover, is it so reprehensible for us to question your constant references to ‘value’?
Given your personal background and previous support for fan involvement we hope you take the trouble to respond to our deep concerns about both the club’s situation and the wording of the interview quoted.
Signed
Concerned Manchester United Fans

This IPO will not rid United of the Glazers. It will ease the debt but it's still not good news.
I don't see how getting regulated would help the value of the club. Truth is, winning titles would help more than losing titles when it comes to getting rid of the Glazers. They clearly want out now and they want to squeeze every penny they can out of the club before they leave so it would be better if a quick sale we're to happen that won't happen unless the value is at top though.
Well a value is just that a value, they can accept a bid that's worth less if they wanted to and they might listen to offers who knows. The debt I don't think hurts United from a buyers point of view since the club is still profitable the club itself could repay the debt themselves if needed. That's not a huge issue if you we're to buy United.
Of course the IPO will not get rid of the Glazers tomorrow but it is the first baby step to get rid of them. They, by selling 10% of their owning, signals to potential buyers looking for a majority stake that the time is ripe for a bid.

Your best hope is for the IPO to fail. The Glazers HAVE to pay their debts. If they can no longer rinse United, which they can't without the IPO as you don't have a lot of cash in the bank (see your latest financial results) they have to sell.
If the IPO succeeds - they will keep doing it. Paying a tiny amount of United's debt whilst lining their pockets.
Remarkable how this has happened to one of the worlds biggest clubs. If you were anything less than United, you'd be broke.

The Glazer family has no money to pay the debt with. They need money fast, that's why they're selling 10% in the first place. I wouldn't be so confident they'll sell the other 90% on the stock market if the IPO succeeds. It would be more prudent for them to sell a majority share to a single entity. My hope is that the shares will be sold to a lot of different entities I don't want a majority owner tbh.
The money in the bank won't be a factor for any potential buyer. You don't buy a company for their cash reserve. Anyone buying stock will look at the growth potential before buying.
Unfortunately, this will be become more common with all these private owners. I hope FIFA forbids clubs from selling themselves in the future.
How did the Glazer's take control of the club anyways? Which idiots sold to them?

What I meant about the cash in the bank is that using that is not a option for them to pay the debts with. If I remember from the financial results yesterday there is £40M cash.
It wouldn't put off a buyer, but a good thing IMO for United is it's not like you have £100m sat there that the Glazers could fiddle with.

It's long and convoluted but a blunt view is Fergie fell out with the previous majority shareholders over a race horse. They sold to the Glazer's IIRC.

Indeed. But I don't think they have any assets left to, themselves, pay off the debt with. So in essence they have to sell somehow. And they took the best route out for them. But I never thought it would happen any other way.

Hull City have confirmed Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Amos has officially completed his season-long loan move to the KC Stadium.
Amos had agreed to join the Tigers earlier this month and linked up with Steve Bruce's squad for a pre-season training camp in Portugal.
The 22-year-old subsequently took part in United's early pre-season action, but has now headed to Hull ahead of the new Championship campaign.

As manutdfan said, Suarez has brought this on himself. Numerous incidents throughout his career he has been in the spotlight for negative things, from racial abuse, diving, cheating, biting and persistently yelling at officials.
These kind of things are going to get him booed, it isn't all to do with the media like Liverpool fans always claim, fans can see for themselves when he starts doing stuff like this. Look at Ashley Young from last season, he got booed for his antics, Suarez does this too and more.
A lot of the boos he does receive are simply from fans trying to wind him up because it's likely it will get a reaction from him, after a frustrating first half yesterday he started punching the ground and throwing turf, it's hilarious and it's what the fans want from him. It's just like how players try and wind up certain players to get a reaction out of them and see them get in trouble.

Sir Alex Ferguson speaks out over Manchester United share issue
Sir Alex Ferguson has today released a statement about Manchester United planned share issue.
"Being aware of the media coverage that is currently ongoing I felt, on this occasion, that I should make my position clear to the Manchester United fans.
"In regards to suggestions that I have praised the Glazer Family because I stand to financially benefit from the proposed IPO, there is not a single grain of truth in this allegation. I do not receive any payments, directly or indirectly, from the IPO.
"Ultimately, I run the football side of this club and in order to do this, you need backing from above.
"The Glazer family have let me get on with my job, there is no interference or obstruction, only support.
"My decisions and beliefs are not based around what is best for my personal financial gain. That is an accusation that insults me. If that was the case, I would have left Old Trafford a long time ago.
"I am speaking out because I do not want a situation to develop whereby the media and other parties create a rift, however small, between myself and any Manchester United fan. I've spent 25 years of my life pushing this club forward and not only could I not have done it without those fans, I do it for them."
Manchester Evening News (http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/sport/football/manchester_united/s/1585194_sir-alex-ferguson-speaks-out-over-manchester-united-share-issue)*
Fergie just doesn't get it, United fans do not like to read this - "there is no interference or obstruction, only support." Maybe words of support, but certainly not the money. Someone needs to directly ask him:
"Have the Glazers' financial difficulties impacted in the transfers coming in to the squad?" There's pretty tangible evidence they have.
But no one will, because they will get banned. But they should.
Funny how all the talk is now about the IPO, Glazers & Fergie. What happened to the chatter about players coming in?

He's getting the support he wants which is money. £50m last season and £25m this season thus far testifies to that.
People think we don't have money just because we won't pay astronomical fees and wages. But that doesn't mean we couldn't, it just means we won't. I happen to agree that the money clubs like Chelsea, City and PSG are throwing around is stupid money and it'll come back to bite them.

I'm not saying he didn't bring it on himself. I clearly said the opinion would probably be unchanged.
But shit like THIS (https://p.twimg.com/AzQiTN7CcAEhzXb.jpg) is unacceptable from the media and doesn't help at all.
Did I click the right link? I saw the guardian saying that Suarez was accused of using racist language.

I confess I don't remember what Tweet he's charged for. Nor would I understand it anyway, the slang Rio uses goes way over my understanding.
its a side by side of guardian reporting Terry and Suarez FA charges. The body of the text is EXACTLY the same. The headline for Suarez: charged with racism. For Terry: charged with abusive language.

Funny how all the talk is now about the IPO, Glazers & Fergie. What happened to the chatter about players coming in?
So far this summer is similar to last. The biggest signing United have talked about, is a spangly new sponsorship deal.
i was just about to post the exact same thing......chelski are signing all the attacking talent around, arsenal are signing players, citeh cant just yet and we are dithering about this shit.....i didnt really belive we could afford to spunk £50mil on rvp and moura......

I would say Kagawa was a really big signing. Some fans seems to think we we're the only one in for him - that wasn't the case. Getting Kagawa was a big accomplishment.
It's hard to argue that the transfer policy of Chelsea and City is healthy long-term. It is easy to see their signings over the years as good value short term but taking a broader perspective that's not the type of deals you'd want your club to make to survive long-term.

We don't want players on loan unless there's an option to buy them.
