We really aren't a very good team so far this season. Very average today. We'll do very well to win this.

Edit: Thank fuck for Van Persie. There can't be any doubt that he was well worth the money. Pulled us level again.

Edit again: We are simpy horrendously poor. We're making Southhampton look like Barcelona. Two nearly identical goals, extremely poor goals to concede as well. I'm brutally honest if I tell you how staggered I am at the appalling lack of quality from our side. We are several levels below Europe's elite.

Right, win aside, that was ANOTHER awful performance from us.

We had to rely on a 37 to change the the game.
Evra is done.
Wasnt rafas fault for the 1st goal, where was vida or rio?
Why was a striker (Welbz) playing on the left when we have nani?
Why wasnt CM properly addressed? we are liking a cheap whore through the middle of the pitch, so easily got at.
Chico also made the difference when he came on.
DDG shouldnt of been dropped, that was VERY harsh. I actually think he saved either of their headers!

Tbh, i know rio/vida aint played together since basle and both are coming off injuries, but still, i expect better from them

Where was ando? he wouldve got stuck in.

Carrick seemed to forget that he was playing in CM, a lot a mis placed passes from him

Didnt use Kagawa well. He had a poor game. Learning curve.

Awful performance yesterday. At times in posession of the ball, Carrick looked like he was auditioning for a part in The Walking Dead. Rio looked like he was tweeting during the game, but the most shocking thing for me Mike Phelan.

Isn't he the assistant manager at United? Someone needs to get the bloke a onesie, during the game he looked like a big tired old baby. He couldn't even be arsed to get up when RvP scored. And if a team reflects its manager/assistant manager, of late it is doing. Tired, sluggish and just plain old.

And now Fergie has set a precedent for a player making one mistake. Will Silva and Evra to be dropped from the next game? Felt sorry for De Gea yesterday, bad enough to be dropped but for the manager to be so public about it, not good.

On the bright side, Liverpool.

Watched MoTD2 this morning. United back to their old tricks of turning games around, didn't anyone tell Fergie it's now called Manicni Time?

Joking aside, RVP looks ruthless. Scholes ran the midfield when he came on which leads to one question...

How can Fergie not invest in a quality CM when Scholes is 37 years old and he won't be around for many more years?

United will struggle against any team who can out boss them in midfield this season. Everton did and you lost. Southampton did and you almost lost.

Where do you find a CM that can immediately step in and take over from one of the best midfielders to ever play the game? I think that's the issue, Fergie said a few years ago he'd spend big to replace Giggs and Scholes but there's two, maybe three, midfielders in the world that can replace Scholes and Barcelona isn't selling.

Replacing Scholes may end having to be, by necessity, a multi-man job. Seems very unlikely we'll ever be blessed with a CM of his quality again.

I'd bring in M'Villa to bring some truculence and belligerence to the midfield. He'd also be a good replacement for Fletcher right away or when needed if Fletch can come back to his top level.

Think we have enough offensive talent in the MF with Clev and Kagawa to pass on players like Dembele.

Buying a ready made replacement is now United's problem. If they invested in a CM a season or two ago like every United fan was crying out for then there wouldn't be this problem. You'd have a younger midfielder who has learned from one of the best for two seasons or so.

Many quality midfielders have moved to other clubs and United haven't shown an interest in them.

Spurs almost capturing Moutinho for £22m. United should go for him, he has everything it takes to be a top midfielder.

Yaya Toure is the leagues best midfielder without a doubt. He cost £24m and that's proved to be a steal.

United don't need a creative midfielder, we need a player who can boss the midfield and control the play. Basically, we need someone like Yaya Toure, he is City's most important player if you ask me. I think Cheik Tiote is good shout but he's a dirty bastard.

Wayne Rooney admits he has returned to training seven pounds overweight
• Manchester United striker blames 'summer holiday bevvies'

Should put an end to a debate we had over here after the Everton game. He should be more professional with the wages he's on. Lets hope he returns in better shape.

Exclusive: Wayne Rooney talks about falling out with Ferguson, and his plans for the future

SM: Do you see the next 10 years being at Old Trafford?

WR: Again I hope so. I have said many times that as long as I am wanted here at Man United then I will be a Man United player. Obviously, I had that situation a couple of years ago but made it clear very quickly that I had made a mistake. As long as people want me to be a Man United player, then that is what I will be.

SM: When you look back on your stance two years ago, does your blood run cold and wonder why on earth you did it?

WR: You learn from things. When I look back I realised very quickly I made a mistake. It wasn’t my position to say what I said. I went to see the manager and David Gill (chief executive) and told them I thought I had made a big mistake and can we sort it out. I asked what can we do from here. It took just 12 hours to sign a new contract. It is an episode that I am not proud of but it has helped me because it has given me great desire and hunger to be more successful at this club.

Rooney isn't more overpaid than anyone else. The going rate for a world class striker whom can also play in virtually any other posistion is a fair bit higher than what Rooney is on. He could easily get more somewhere else.

That being said, football players salaries in general would make an interesting case study. Whether they are justified or not.

We've had this discussion before, and the current version of Rooney doesn't get into the Barcelona team or the Real Madrid team. I don't think he'd even make the Spanish squad. And if RvP & Kagawa really click, he might struggle to get back into the United team.

Just come on here to say a few words.

Got linked to a topic on RedCafe http://www.redcafe.net/f7/e-petition-release-govt-hillsborough-files-337931/.

I didn't register on their as i'd be reiterating what a few LFC fans had already said.

The loss of 96 football fans on that day in 1989 was not just a shock for Liverpool FC but the whole of the country and the whole football in the 80's - 90's.

Football takes a back seat on things like this and I want to thank all the MUFC fans for their words, now people will realise that it was not the fans fault but the police and emergency services on that day. The whole police-government cover up was a complete and utter disgrace and the British fans on here I hope you realise why we boycott the s*n and hope you will do the same until it's completely shut down.

There has been lots of talk about a MUFC gesture on RedCafe when we play you at Anfield which would be beyond class. I just hope the horrible hurtful Hillsborough - Munich chants will finally end.

2 of the greatest English clubs share 2 of the biggest disasters in football and my Respect for MUFC has risen.

As much as I wish the sick chants would end at all football clubs, it might happen for this one game at Anfield but the idiots will be back sooner or later.

If you think about it Munich happened in 1958 yet some idiots 54 years later still enjoy taunting United fans with it, even though the majority of clowns were not even born. But, the most sickening one for me, is the one aimed a Spurs fans now that really is beyond sick. And how far does that one go back?

Sorry to say it, but it is a disturbing part of the culture of English football.

shitty attitude to be honest, sort of what I have come to expect from you. the little respect I had left for you has all but disappeared after this post.

both teams share a common factor in that each has experienced tragedy, fans on either side of the fence should show consideration for what has happened.

I just hope after that remark you don't get all hoity toity and bitch at anybody that calls themselves a liverpool fan who shows total disinterest or lack of compassion for those that died in the munich air disaster, or their families & friends.

but knowing you from your posts in other threads, I'm sure you will.

Omg no, ive lost your respect.....what am i gonna do!

Let me clear summit up, i HATE all things LFC related, but any of you really think i was implying that i was talking about the actual incident yourself, then your up your own ass more than you already are!

For what its worth, i was talking about the sick chanting Danny & LC77 mentioned, i dont care about that, its always gonna happen.

What kind of evil cunt must i be to not have any compassion for people that DIED?! Jog on pal

let me refresh your memory:

the discussion in general was about the hillsborough disaster, to which you replied:

no offence, but i couldnt give two shits about what happened.

to me that says you were referring to the event itself (if you meant anything else, you should have been more specific), and if any doubt was evident, your reply to the following question that was asked of you:

Surely you can empathise with them? We have had our own tragedy.

to which you replied:

NOPE. waffle waffle waffle

I couldn't care less what excuses you give after that, but what you typed was in reference to the whole tragedy, no excuses whatsoever could rescue from what you typed before.

I'm disappointed that you hold any position of authority on these message boards after what you have typed, I really am. and from the messages I have received since, I'm not alone.

this is not a slight to all the united fans on these forums, I know the majority of you are honest good natured fans, as are most of my friends, but it irks me to see comments like this from anyone who considers themselves to be a fan of any team, in any form of sport.

I'm speaking from a position of impartiality here (not entirely), I don't support either team, but my own team has suffered disaster in the past, and it pisses me off that some fanboy with a chip on his shoulder, who hasn't got a clue should come out with comment like that, should in any way be taken lightly.

I'd just like to hope that all the honest, decent supporters of all the teams, of this game would choose to distance themselves from this soft of bullshit, it's alright to have a crack once in a while in the name or rivalry, but when fatalities occur, partisan feelings should take a back seat!!!

Buttner looked good yesterday, do we start him or Evra and Anfield? Evra will get a horrible reception at Anfield and I don't know if that'd effect him.

Fuck me, I take one vacation and it comes to this?

Anyway, got home last night from a quick vacation in London. Visited the Nike store on Oxford Circus what a brilliant store. They had Man United clothing and a lot of other team clothing too. I've never seen anything like it!

I bought a t-shirt and a jacket.

If you find yourself in London, I can recommend visiting the Nike Store. It was brilliant.

Fully read every post since I was away.

All I'll say is this, some people come here looking to stir shit now and again. They can fuck off in my not so humble opinion.

Some need to get their priorities in order , this is a place to discuss Man United and related topics. Everyone will have different opinions. No need to be disrespectful towards anyone. You may not agree with someone else and that's fine. But you shouldn't attack them because of that. If you disagree with something, point out the flaws in their thinking and move on..

Not every sentence written needs to be 100% nitpicked for any flaws either. If someone posts something that doesn't seem right and they later explain their position why keep going on about it?

I liked to post here because it was a friendly place to discuss a football match. Lately it hasn't been. Let's cool down and reboot. We're all here because we love either the same team or the same sport. Let's nitpick our similarities rather than our differences.

I hate this thread being off-topic.. but I have to comment. (assuming you are referring to Liverpool fans when you say "They") They didn't come to stir "shit" up.. they only came in to praise Manchester United fans in relation to Ferguson's comments.. you need to read everything again. Why tell them "fuck off" when they did nothing wrong and in fact were praising your fans.

The person "stirring shit up" is already in the thread. (bewaresuckers) Ever notice how whenever he posts.. an argument follows then he gets banned? Only to return once again of course.

This thread is usually great.. threats of heavier moderation are only going to ruin it.. why do it?

Only thing getting old is your ignorance. It was actually fairly amusing about 5 bans ago.

Also, in case you missed it, your club released a statement essentially disowning fans like you. Must feel great to be unwanted by your own club.

I'm not going to mention any names. Last time I called out a troll I got a ban. But rest assured I wasn't talking about the Liverpool fans. Everyone can see that some people post here seldom and when they do - they only post to argue.

I'm not making a threat, I'm stating a fact. Right now, I'm the thread owner and if things continue I'll request heavier moderation. If the majority doesn't agree I'm more than happy having a vote of confidence and if needed leave the thread to someone else.

I'm going to go thermonuclear if I have to, I'll have the thread locked for a brief period if the insults continue because that's not what this thread is about.

Proud of what? U didn't even deserve to win let alone get a draw, they pimped you for 70mins till you got a fortunate 1st goal and then a lucky 2nd.

Proud of the fact we gave them a game. Proud of the fact this is how far City have come. Of course they were going to best us, they are the best in the world in my eyes, and of course they deserved to win. But we came close to pulling something off something special.

Not a fan of rotating goalkeepers, especially a young one. Fergie really has a bad history of managing keepers. He never comes out and says a striker missed a sitter, and then drops him for the error but he's very quick to be critical of his keeper.

I still think the blunder for the Fulham goal, should've been placed at the feet of Vidic. Why was he not screaming at his keeper... miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine?

And on the subject of keepers. Joe Hart.

Sir Alex's letter to fans

Manchester United supporters going to Sunday's match at Anfield will be presented with a letter from Sir Alex Ferguson as they pass through the turnstiles. The letter reads as follows:

"Dear Supporter,

"The great support you gave the team here last season has seen our allocation back up to near-full levels. I want you to continue that progress today.

"But today is about much more than not blocking gangways. Today is about thinking hard about what makes United the best club in the world.

"Our rivalry with Liverpool is based on a determination to come out on top - a wish to see us crowned the best against a team that held that honour for so long.

"It cannot and should never be based on personal hatred. Just ten days ago, we heard the terrible, damning truth about the deaths of 96 fans who went to watch their team try and reach the FA Cup final and never came back.

"What happened to them should wake the conscience of everyone connected with the game.

"Our great club stands with our great neighbours Liverpool today to remember that loss and pay tribute to their campaign for justice. I know I can count on you to stand with us in the best traditions of the best fans in the game.

I suppose Giggs is. He's played there before and done well so not too bothered about that.

I find the rotation curios, De Gea had a great game last game so not sure why he isn't playing. Might be that Lindegaard has looked better in training.

Was gonna post this one, thanks.

That gif shows me that firstly, Evans gets to the ball first. Secondly Evans left foot is no where near Shelvey, thirdly Evans goes into the tackle with his studs down, it's a passing motion, not a studing motion.

Unlike Shelvey who goes in with his studs up.

Anyway I am not here to point score, but that's my interpretation of the GIF.

Listen, I'm not saying Evans wasn't fouled. He was. I'm just adding to the "Evans should have seen red too" bit.

Have you missed the part where Evans leaves the ground with 2 feet and goes into Shelvey?

Have you missed all the clamor that was in this thread when Kompany got sent off last season when he did much less than Evans there?

Doesn't matter if he "gets him" or not, the intent was there. By rule, Evans should see red.

I haven't missed it because Evans doesn't do that, Evans dives in and wins the ball, as YMF has said he wasn't near Shelvey. Shelvey is the one who dives in and after Evans has won the ball and gets Evans in the leg, that's dangerous.

Have you missed all the clamor that was in this thread when Kompany got sent off last season when he did much less than Evans there?

Kompanys challenge was very similar to Shelveys, 2 foot lung, legs apart. Look at how Evans dives in, legs together straight after the ball, with Shelveys legs apart there's going to be a bigger range of impact.

How are you calling Shelvey's tackle two footed? His left leg is bent behind him until the end.

Yes Evans legs are together, both of them, two footed, studs forward.

Shelvey's is studs forward, but one foot.

Shelvey makes a kicking motion at the ball, Evans makes a lunging motion.

I'd love to go to Anfield to hear the fans signing you'll never walk alone, great atmosphere!!

One of a few grounds I'd love to go to Nou camp as well.

Evans dives in after the ball with both feet and wins it, Shelvey dives in legs all over the place, OK yep might have not been fully 2 footed but that doesn't change anything. He dives in, right leg into Evans leg, could have potentially caused a very serious injury.

IIRC, Kompany also won the ball when he was sent off. With dangerous play, winning the ball is kind of thrown out the window, especially when you don't win it convincingly, even in the slow-mo gif, their feet touch the ball almost simultaneously, with Evans getting there a moment before.

Go and watch the Kompnay Challenge, its a lot different than Evans and much more dangerous.

I have watched it, and the only difference is that Nani was already in possession when he slid in.

I'd say in a 50-50 situation it's more dangerous.

Nice edit from "studs up" to "studs forward"

Evans left foot is absolutely no where near Shelvey, infact that is the leg where Shelveys studs are studing into.

Evans right foot is at the side, he goes in tough, but fair and he wins the ball. Shelvey went in with little control and was reckless with his studs raised. Regardless Shelvey should have been booked before that when he committed a horrible challenge on Rafael. (It might have been Valencia)

It's amazing how people can have such different views of something they both see, an argument against video technology in football?

End of the day; Go in with your studs up and you run the risk of being sent off. The refs don't have the benefit of Kremlinology on so-so quality GIF's.

I'm talking about the manor in which Kompany and Shelvey have dived in, resembles that of a long jumper, you often see a player get in trouble for these style of lunges. The difference I see with those challenges and Evans' one, is that Evans dives in feet together and goes straight to the ball, he seems more in control of his lunge and where his boots will end up and as opposed to a wild lunge.

It would be good if we got to hear from referee's after the game, it might well be a case that he sent just Shelvey off as the lunge make big contact with Evans leg.

You could argue both should of been sent off

That's the problem. "Dives in feet together" is the same thing as "two-footed lunge", just trying to ease the impact of the words with different rhetoric.

Once again, I'm not defending Shelvey's tackle. I was only defending that one of you called it "two footed" when it wasnt.

Looks a push.

Why is it only United's decisions that get this scrutinised

The penalty incident was both a push and the Liverpool's players leg caught Valencia high on Valencia's leg. . The player himself didn't complain that tells you all you need to know about that incident.

It's not the problem, because it shows he is in control of the tackle. Feet together going directly at the the target, the ball. If he legs were not together highly likely one would be going straight into Shelvey and therefore making him worthy of a red card. If the feet aren't together when diving into the ball, there's the potential for more targets getting hit, one could be the ball the other could be Shelvey. Legs together going straight for the same target and gets it.

Yeah it looked a penalty in real time and in the replays. Like T said as well Johnson didn't complain, protest..
