Unless you tell me the FA has made no changes in its policies towards Drug Tests since 2003 (if they have any ) then that makes no sense when applying it to Kolo if he were to miss a test today.

Still, if the City player got that fine in 03 and Rio got suspended for 18 months in 03 then clearly the FA has never been favoring United thus neglecting the "modern" theory that they do.

Like I said in the City thread:

Club have suspended him from all footballing responsibilities while they carry out a legal investigation.

Athletes are known to consume certain chemicals in food and liquid which show up as negative on a drugs test. Thats why these days it's all the rage for sports drinks to have a little emblem on the back to say they have been tested against anti-doping laws in world sport and this drink contains no chemicals which will fail a test. Next time you have a Lucozade Sport just look at the wrapper!

Edit: I was right. Sky Sports New Sources believe the drugs test was failed after the Manchester Derby due to a dietary supplement.

They can believe what they want, we'll see what is found. Don't expect anything from the FA anyway.

dc89
03-03-2011, 20:15
City have done the right thing by suspending him until it's all cleared up!

Fergie wouldn't have banned him from the team. He'd have come out saying the media are making a mountain out of a molehill and how the drugs test is not 'firm and fair'.

And I honestly don't think Toure is the type to take drugs really. Him and Yaya are really proud of their family name etc. That's why Yaya prefers to be known as Toure Yaya, family name first, he is that proud of it.

How do you know? Pretty sure the FA would have banned him anyhow pending further investigation. But I do guess the player would have hoped City would stand behind him.

dc89
03-03-2011, 20:21
FA have yet to make a comment.

Sky seem to think the test was took after the Manchester derby, 3 going on 4 weeks ago now. Why didn't they ban him earlier if they were going to (the FA that is)?

City are standing behind him.

You sound like they've terminated his contract for breach of contract. Sorry, it's not happening! City's legal investigation might not be against the player. It could be against the drug test agency, the companies which provide the food the players eat at Carrington, it could be against a dietician for all we know. There is so much more than just a player involved here. These guys have EVERYTHING done for them.

Exactly. Players are finally honed machines. They have a full diet plan and no doubt a dietary supplement plan too. Sadly as fans we are not privy to what they are and how they change over time with age etc.

But what Kenny's ban does prove is that Kolo could still be in trouble.

Update - Kolo Toure latest - #fa say "a player's been provisionally suspended .. having tested positive for use of a prohibited substance." #mcfc

If this substance is prohibited the people that feed should be aware of this!

Likely they gave City word that they could talk to the player and announce it themselves before a certain time when the FA would announce it. Most likely they want the club to be able to tell the player instead of him reading it on Twitter.

Fletcher signs new contract

Darren Fletcher has signed a new four-year deal that will see the midfielder stay at Old Trafford until the end of the 2014/2015 season.

Fletcher, 27, has been with United since 2000, making his debut in March 2003. Since then he has made 288 appearances, scoring 21 goals. He has won three Barclays Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Darren has been at the club since he was fifteen years old. I am extremely proud that he came through the ranks of our youth academy. I am delighted Darren has signed a new contract, he has developed into a top-class midfielder.”

Darren Fletcher said: “I take great pride in playing for Manchester United, I have won many trophies in my years playing here and I am looking forward to winning many more in the seasons to come. I would like to thank everyone at the club.”

ManUtd.com (http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2011/Mar/Fletcher-signs-new-contract.aspx)

Great news, Fletcher has been playing great for years.

Man Utd to sign Belgian teenager Adnan Januzaj

Manchester United are set to sign Anderlecht's teenage midfielder Adnan Januzaj, according to the Belgian club.

The two clubs have only to agree the terms for the Belgian 16-year-old, with the fee believed to be about £297,000.

Anderlecht wanted to keep the highly-rated attacking midfielder, who is of Albanian descent and joined the club from FC Brussels in 2005.

But they do not plan to stand in the way of him joining the current Premier League leaders.

Fifa rules stipulate that players under the age of 16 cannot move between European clubs.

But having waited until 5 February when Januzaj crossed that threshold, United will be able to pay the Belgian club a minimal fee for him before his price begins to rise.

According to Anderlecht the "deal is done" but the two clubs must arrange the fee which can be paid up front or can be incentive based dependent on appearances.

Manchester United would not comment on the deal when contacted by BBC Sport.

Fifa has recently introduced a Transfer Matching System to improve the transparency of such deals where both clubs involved can register as much information as possible about the transfer.

Any agreement between clubs must also be ratified by a player status sub-committee.

Since January 2010 there have been 1,752 transfer applications entered into the system for minors with 1,123 accepted and 255 rejected. The remainder are in process.

But there is still a lingering concern that bigger European clubs with vast scouting networks are able to offer incentives to youngsters, therefore denying smaller clubs of ample rewards for developing players.

There is also the issue of whether young players make the right choice in going to a bigger club where their chances may be limited.

In 2009, French club Le Havre accused Manchester United of "stealing" French midfielder Paul Pogba.

And in 2007 Lazio were unhappy with the pursuit and signing of Italian striker Federico Macheda, who was 16 at the time.

Barcelona recently described Arsenal's purchase of Jon Toral as "a little immoral". The 16-year-old midfielder moved for a fee of about £296,000.

But Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "We have done what is legal. Plenty of players leave us under exactly the same rule."

Surprised by the Carrick hate on here... I'd much rather have him this season than Fletcher. In a 442, Carrick is quite a bit ahead of Fletcher... in a 451, Fletcher's useful for marking one man and staying on him all night. If I had to choose one of the two, it'd be Carrick. Hopefully though, we get a new mid in the summer.

Eric Cantona is currently in Signapore with New York Cosmos who are on their tour with Asia.
In the Four Seasons hotel he was asked who he believed won win Sunday’s game between Manchester United and Liverpool.
“United will win,” said Cantona. “The key man? Ferguson. It’s a big squad and they are all great players. So if it is an injury or a player banned, it’s not a problem. Kenny Dalglish has done very well since he came back. He will have an effect on the game, but not enough to beat United.”
Cantona was then asked who believed was going to win the title this season, after officials cost United vital points at Stamford Bridge this week.
“United,” he replied. “You know, everybody knows it except the Liverpool fans.”

So where were the comments about the FA bottling it when Gerrard got away with an elbow earlier in the season?

I'm not defending anyone here! But you got to remember people only remember the last instance of it. In the whole anyway.

Scared? Did you see the pic of the injury? He has every right to be upset! Maybe these injuries are a normal thing to see on the street of Liverpool though.

Yeah I read it, but only the bit about Nani I was interested in. Don't often agree with the Forest fan views. But if he has any decency he should apologise I think, he hadn't seen the picture of the injury when writing the article so surely now he has and will realise criticising Nani for his reaction was over the top.

also your reputation precedes you. if that tackle had been on carick or rooney or vidic then people wouldn't be saying what they are. as it is nani has a reputation of being a little pansy diver. also if it had been a stoke player on nani, woudlnt be the same reaction. its a liverpool player on a united player, media barrage levels out a bit.

How sad do you have to be to compare every event that happens in your matches to other clubs? When we had horrible officiating last game, did I ever bring up any other clubs' name? no.

Why do you need to make remarks that attack another club at every opportunity you get honestly.

Using the word pathetic was a bit harsh and I shouldn't have worded it so strongly but you get what I mean..

It's not just Manchester United fans but this whole culture of "make disparaging remarks about another club based on today's incidents" is getting old.

It would be fair if it was a very directly related incident but Ramsey's injury + media coverage compared to today's incident while also insulting Arsenal?

Stop trying to insinuate something negative about another club and either talk about the problem in the premier league as a whole or take this bad tackle as it's own separate case.

Wow you really do go crazy over the smallest of things.

The comment I posted was to prove that because it was Nani and the reputation he has then people don't talk about this incident. If a Stoke player committed a challenge like that on an Arsenal player, can you imagine the uproar? I saw the other day another Arsenal fan hope that Ryo player of yours breaks Shawcross' leg.

But no because it's Nani it's not really a talking point, an Arsenal fan of all people should realise how bad it is to see their players get tackled like this, you were even complaining about it yesterday.

I'll use a different point then, if Rooney had done this to a Liverpool player and left him injured like Nani don't you think it would be a much bigger talking point!?

There is a lot of bad things written about United as soon as they get the chance. See the Rooney incident for example no reason at all for 10,000 words written about it but there was. Anything with United gets blown out of proportion.

Take your player that took weight loss pills, they wrote a few articles the same day and the day after it was pretty much quiet. If that would have been an United player they'd still be writing about it constantly.

I've cooled down...

We were crap today, simple as. Atleast against Chelsea we had a good half. None of our players looked like they wanted to give it their all to win. Liverpool were superior, and in the end the scoreline reflected that. Each side could have easily had a red card, but Dowd stayed consistent in his refereeing and was fair.

As much as it hurts, congratulations Liverpool, especially on doing something Chelsea couldn't: beating us fairly.

Again the point being is that it's annoying when all I hear about all week is the Rooney elbow, deserved yes but now Carragher's challenge has happened the media are barely acknowledging it, this was arguably worse than the Rooney elbow but it's basically being ignored!

The reason why the Arsenal Stoke reference was made is because Stokes attitude annoys Arsenal fans, their players always playing dirty and Arsenal always complaining. If this Carragher challenge had been a Stoke player on an Arsenal one or a Rooney committing the challenge there would be outrage. But because it's Nani and because of the way he reacted the challenge is ignored, that's what annoying! and as soon as United get some Referee luck it will be all the rage again!!

Where is the media outburst following Carraghers challenge like Rooney's elbow!?!?!

There would be outrage by Arsenal fans like there is outrage with Manchester United fans right now.. that is obvious.

Gerrard made a horrible intentional tackle trying to injure a player the first time we met this season.. did it get coverage? No.

Join the club, many fans are outraged by many events but I don't care about the fact that the media did not cover the tackle. It does annoy me though.

They make more of it when Man United are involved like the Rooney incident compared to the Toure incident. It's cause there higher profile and you'll get more exposure, people reading it.

It's just like when Man U play Liverpool compared to say Birmingham vs Aston Villa, they write more and you hear more about the Man U v Liverpool game before and after the game.
