Those without current gen HDTVs (like no older then 6 months) and those not getting a new one in the future wont be able to watch HD-DVD, blu-ray or PS3 movies or games.

Hollywood screws 3 million HDTV owners, sucks in general."

Figures they would try to do something like that. I don't think it will stand in the end, someone will take them to court over it and they will have to comply with the normal standards.

I doubt they're that stupid. No-one's going to buy their new fancy movies and they'll all get pirated and it'd be worse for them.
This is going to turn people against Hollywood big shots, and no mistake.

Who decided Hollywood got to make all the decisions?

The games will work so don't worry there, this is not in question. As for the movies, if somebody simply doesn't have an HDTV, why even worry or bother getting HD-DVD/blu-ray titles? DVD's will do until they decide to move on, and it isn't a problem for the PS3 either in terms of compatibility. The rest is probably a misunderstanding as they wouldn't really do that, the issue here is HD content could no longer be possible to output using other than HDMI cables. Otherwise, movies might be downconverted and displayed in 480p at most.

Um... can't you just get a HDMI to component video adapter or something?

If HDCP is the problem, I expect we'll be seeing a lot of HDCP removal devices on the market before too long. HDCP has already been at least partially hacked.

This is probably going to be the beginning of the end of physical/optical media. DRM is already wrecking havoc online and many people aren't supporting it anymore. Now they are causing even MORE chaos on physical media? Soon everything will be "subscription" based, where you pay a monthly/yearly fee for the "right" to have access to media. You will download all movies/music directly and it won't be on a per-item-basis.

So, will the PS3 support regular tvs? Yup. How much does a dual HDMI tv cost over a single HDMI? Hardly noticeable. Will Hollywood strangle itself with this crap they think will SAVE them money? Yes, UNLESS.... they either decide against it at the last moment or see the sudden nose-dive on their little line graphs in their conference rooms. I can see it now.....the fedex commercial where there is the boss and only one guy sitting in the office that hasn't been fired.....

This would never happen. The law says that it must my at least 2 years backwards compatibility. So there is your major flaw in this.

I don't know how many are affected or to what extent they're bugged, but it seemed like an issue
