Electronic Artswill premier the world’s first look at the next generation of videogames on Saturday April 23, 2005. EA’s flagship football franchise, Madden NFL football, will make its next generation debut in a TV ad during the first hour of the NFL Draft broadcast on ESPN, beginning at 12 noon ET. EA is deep in development on what will be the strongest next generation console line up in the videogame industry, highlighted by other hit franchise titles to be announced at a later date.

They didnt form together with 2K5... they bought the rights for NFL, so they have exclusivity.. and they also bought the rights FROM ESPN.. not from 2K. So its all EA.

hmm despite it all, i will probably watch the draft picks now that i have heard this news. ive never bought a sports game besides the tony hawk series just because i would wrather be playing the sport physically than sitting down and playing it virtually, but im always interested in what the next generation of gaming has to offer.
the commercial probably wont be more than 20 seconds, but it might give us some clues about the next consoles

Looks close enough to me. Maybe that Need for Speed "render pic" (obvious sarcasm) will look just like EA said it will.

I dont think they will release Madden 06 for the PS3 seeing that its coming out next year probably in the summer time.. so id imagine these screens being from xbox360, but you never know.

More likely Xbox 360. They have a few polls on Madden sites saying if you'll buy the Next Xbox if Madden was an launch title. Response been good right now.

I've been hearing plenty of positive comments about EA's feelings towards the PS3 dev kits....
Well, EA certainly love their PS3 dev kits - they've been showing FIFA PS3 behind the closed doors for the past couple of months. (don't ask)
Anyway, Madden for Xbox 360 looks amazing - that PS3 rev is bound to look even better just boggles the mind. The future is so bright, I gotta wear shades.
What I've heard though that the programmers at EA have been able to get better performance out of the PS3 almost immediately ... and yes, that's despite XNA and all that other goobledeygoop.
Its simply the better hardware.
The reason is not entirely due to the time gap between the two systems either. Sony by virtue of owning their own fabs can get certain kinds of technology for cheaper than would be otherwise possible with a "middle man". That's the upside to making such a huge infastructure investment -- the downside of course is if you're product fails, then you're in big shit.
The other thing I've heard is XBox 360, more or less is a $300 piece of hardware. Its very nice, cutting edge, but the PS3 follows the PS2 model, which means Sony is willing to lose a lot of money upfront because they feel its going to be the dominant game machine again. So its really more of a $400-$450 piece of tech on top of the manufacturing and the time advantage Sony has.

EA's always backed PS3.. they practically eat out of Sony's hands. Why else would they of been so late to get on board with Xbox Live... but anyways EA has half ass garbage games.. the only game i ever rented/bought from EA was FightNight and it was a good game.. but no online.. Then they came online and messed up servers for every single EA game.. so i steered away from them.
Also would that suck.. if PS3 released lets say 400 dollars, and since xbox has been out say 6-8 months ahead of PS3.. and orignally cost 299. Then drop it down say 50 dollars or w/e. I see a majority of the "hardcore" gamers only starting to buy PS3 in the beginning and once the price goes down.. they start to buy it.. but I can guarentee that Gamestop and other retailers will only sell bundles the first few weeks.. and 400 dollar system.. plus games and other stuff that can be priced at around 600 dollars atleast..
I bought my Xbox on launch, preorded bundle.. that came with system, 3 games *halo, Project Gotham, and another game* and DVD Kit and extra controller.. and i had to pay 500 bucks+tax.. but like 6 months later there was a price cut, and it just kept going down.

If you goto www.madden2006.com it says they are a first look at inside next-gen videogames. So i am hoping this is an actual shot from the game. I guess we will see saturday what they have in store for us.

The right arm looks a little to polygonal in my opinion... I think that is indeed in game... I'm quite impressed... for once... I'm such a pessimist... Anywa, it'll be nice to finally get a glimps of next gen... in the next week or two... we been waiting long enough...

HMMMMM.... I have been thinking about this and it hit me.
Since PS3 wont be coming out in time for madden 06, and EA has finally agreed to do FULL support for M$ ( Live and stuff)... then theoretically this could REALLY REALLy hurt PS3, because all those hardcore madden buffs, and yes you know who you are; will NOT sit back and watch their buddies play the newest HOTTEST madden on an xbox 360 while they sit with a crappy ps2 version.
Thats just my take but honestly it makes a lot of sense, football season is HUGE and if EA does another "Madden Challenge" you can bet your undies that its gonna be run on Xbox 360 and not on ps2.
Ouch sony.
Then again lots of people might be put of with EA for monopolising the NFL Games. I know i am.

Since no other company can make games with Madden then you wont get any quality games by sega or other companies for the sport. I think lots of people preferred the other versions of the games (by other companies).

Next Gen= Xbox 360 BECAUSE PS3 will launch in time for 2007 madden and not in time for 2006

Besides, I am sure they wouldnt be posting teasers and spending money on a 60 second time slot for a commercial if they were simply trying to say "Hey look how good we are at making NFL games with our new franchised series, but sorry! you have to wait until ps3 comes out to play it."

And while that looks amazing, if you look closer you can see how they can do that in game quite easily.
1) The snow is nothing more than a particle effect that appeart to use a random generator in part to create it. Same with the breath effect.
There really are not that many textures visible other than the sign that ends in ME and the red one and eagle logos behind #69.
The wavy effects in the eagle logo and the blue curtain while they look very good can be done with a very simple bump map or proceedure process.
The crowd uses the same techniques as current generation games. It is basically just a few tiny textures multipled over a large area in a random way. It just looks better because with the extra power they can fit more in the small space. If you look back at PSone games vs PS2 you will see the same increase in density but very little difference in the actual "people"
On the closer-up pictures with the guy in the ground you can see very nice looking grass. I expect that this will only be loaded up in the cut scenes and can be handled quite effectively using even things like a couple of vertex shaders when programmed effectively.
The self shadowing is nothing unexpected. Even Xbox games pull that off quite well. Just using lower res shadows due to power. Even PC games can pull off that level of self shadowing now quite easily (see Doom3).
The Need For Speed picture is actually disappointing by comparison. It doesn't show anything that should be remotely challenging to pull off next generation. Yea it has a high poly car with really sweet lighting, but that is it. The shadows on the ground could be quite easily faked. The trees look like garbage compared to even the demo in made with Unreal3 engine. It also has a nice sun burst, great, so did the original Halo, maybe not as smooth, but still.
If you look at the picture posted by cole you can actually see polygons in the players right arm. There is even intersecting polygons on the innerside of the elbow. Very common in sports games where people generally are not that close up on the characters and they emphisize the muscle mass to an extreme where it would be almost impossible for real people with muscles that big to bend their arm that tight.

I'm surprised to see siren say that the Need for Speed screenshot is in-game. Ahhh that makes me feel better, because either he knows something or he has seen something as good if not better than the screenshot. :)
eh.. the NFS shot isnt all that and a bag of chips
HOWEVER the madden cut scene shot ( two guys on ground) looks VERy good.
I would assume that this is a shot taken after a play is finished ie: instant replay.

Lol, usually when we're pestimistic we expect too much. And when our wishes aren't answered then we tempt to get mad, not me but still. I don't want to guess the "future's" graphics, I want to know. I HAVE to experience it first hand.
That's just how I am..
And yeah, both the screenshots look good if you ask me. It could be accomplished only if developers are willing to cooperate with the system. Hopefully it will be easy enough to get those graphics by the end of next gen.

overall details is awesome. BUT.. still the models aren't as perfect as CGI which people have been expecting overall i give it a 8.5/10 from all images seen so far. i could only imagine this on HD which i just picked up an HD 53inch TV so i can't wait for this game and the consoles to be out.

bah i knew it.. too good to be damn true. makes sense tho cause i wouldn't think they would release glimpse of the game when the consoles aren't even revealed yet. so we all gotta wait till the damn Xbox 360 reveiling on May12th and E3 May 16th.. lets cross our fingers and hope for sumthing real good. like Gamespot said "Perhaps the game won't be the kind of graphical leap that came between the original PlayStation and the PS2 consoles, but there will be dramatic and noticeable differences in quality." i wouldn't be surprised but in the last 2 years technology has mad a big leap on PC so i wouldn't be surprised if next gen console games look impressive. 20 more days my people.. 20 more days and the truth will be reveiled :). 8) over and out.[/b]

Those screenshots are an artists renders of real time gameplay of what the PS3 will handle but EA says they can do alot better then that. And Madden games never had CG movies in them. They were always in game graphics.

It has not been stated if those are from Xbox2 or PS3. The general assumption is that they are from Xbox2 since it is generally assumed that the PS3 won't be out in the US till approximately 1 year after the Xbox2.
It is also pretty solid that EA will continue their console support from the Xbox over to the Xbox2.
As such, EA showing off a Madden game for a next generation console is most likely scheduled for release on Xbox2 first. Then the sequal will come to both Xbox2 and PS3.

As for this comment, did you actually read the article? Even though it is an artist rendering EA still claims that they were in fact "scared" to show this video to the public. The reason for this was because EA says that it does not do justice to how it actually looks and that it looks much better. So you should really be estatic now.
Another note on the spoiler which REALLY made my jaw drop was not the graphic discussion but this: He stated that when the player gets injured it goes into this sort of "CSI" cut scene that shoes the injury. Just imagine a sort of "ROMEO MUST DIE" x-ray sort of thing that happens when a player breaks his leg or something. THAT RIGHT THERE is whats going to make NExt-GEN AmaZinG!

Want more proof that this is for xbox and not PS3.. watch the video then when they get to the play selection, check out to the very left of it where it has a button to press for the play.. its a GREEN A, Sony doesnt have colored letters Xbox does.

LOL I missed it then, well I'll say it again, I want better, the Elder Scrolls shots look much better than this man.
If you guys think it looks so bad, go to madden2006.com and watch it in HI resolution. Turn up the volume and watch it a couple times... I am now very impressed.
So, any idea how much of the commercial was real time and how much pre-rendered?

i think the whole thing was pre-rendered. the play selection part looks pretty promising to me, and why can't u peoplle understand this isn't even the final product or even a glimpse of the real deal as of yet. I for one play madden now, and I have been playing madden since 1996. Even if you compare that the upcoming madden 2006 it is a hell of alot better. Peronally i think the commercial was great. I dont know what everyone expected it to look like but it does have alot of detail. Look at T.O.'s face when they show a close up, that looked pretty dam good to me.

NEXT generation.. when EA releases Madden Next Gen. on Xbox360.. i see everyone giving it a 10.0 or atleast a 9.0+ cause it looks so good, and sounds so good.. and everyone will go out and buy it.. cause its the only thing out there.. but they real reason itd get a score that high is cause its next generation it HAS! to look that good.. and that there is no other competition... what i cant wait to see is how 2KSports makes there Baseball game.. i wanna see the different engines they are using to see who really would of shined next generation.

man forget baseball. BASKETBALL GAMES.. i wanna see sum crazy new features for that cause it would be crazy. but i would have to agree with mista bustabusta again.. nuff said im done.

Well the reason i mentioned the baseball game was because thats what 2KSports offically have licenses for... and Basketball its switches every year i think.. or maybe not i think it switches for the NBA street game and StreetHoops or w/e... but anyways Football is one of my main attractions when watching sports.. then basketball.. id pick up next gen madden if it looked better then that commercial in game and it had way better anamtions and innovations. but im still pissed off about not having 2ksports game anymore.. nfl2k5 never gets old.. im still playing 32 man league games.

i wouldn't be surprised if one day they made an announcement to team up with madden. I would go nuts cause then we can see sumthing even more crazy and then get moneys worth but like u said before its gonna be the only football game out since the got the licence to make the football games for the next 5 years. If im not mistaking didn't i hear sumthing about ESPN teaming up with EA? i dunno if it was fake or not can u fill me in?

Yes but its not 2kSPORTS.. its the people at ESPN.. not the actual game you see thats for 20 dollars at best buy or w/e.. what your thinking of is ESPN the TV program people they are working with EA now..
2ksports had a contract with them thats why you saw ESPNNFL2K5. But now since EA is with them after madden06 youll probably be seeing ESPN NFL 2007.

Rumors of Metal Gear Solid 4 debuting on the Xbox 360 have been floating around the internet the past few months. Many gamers and analysts alike have been quick to point out their reasoning behind this rumor, including Konami wishing to expand their franchise over more consoles due to recent PlayStation 3 shortages.
This rumor has since been debunked by Konami. A representative recently told CVG,
"Konami has no plans to bring Metal Gear Solid 4 to the Xbox 360 at this time."
This news should be great for Sony, as the Metal Gear Solid series has consistently been a great seller for their consoles. It appears after losing so many exclusives over the past few months, Sony finally has retained the series of one of their most loyal developers.
