A university isn't the usual place to announce the first details on a new game, but then the Oddworld series has never been the usual franchise. The Cord Weekly reports (via Shacknews) that Maxis co-founder Jeff Braun announced his involvement in the creation of a new Oddworld game during a speech at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Braun didn't have too much to say in terms of, well, just about anything tangible -- gameplay, story, where it would fit in the Oddworld universe, etc. But he did do a lot of boasting about the technology being developed to make the game a reality, which he says will involve a "revolutionary" 3D animation system that will look as good as a CG movie. "The rendering tools are getting so good now for 3D animation that you can literally create a linear animation and create a video game using the exact same objects," Braun said. "The tools are finally getting to the level where we can come out with a show and we can come up with a game."
Braun also had compliments for the folks at Oddworld Inhabitants that he's been working with. "They're such a talented group of people and I really trust their ability to create compelling content," he said. As for when this compelling content will see the light of day, Braun said it could be "years" before the game is finished. That probably explains why specific details were so light.

Yeah, it doesn't say if it's in the Oddworld universe, but nevertheless, they are brilliant, I love their games and think that any game made by them will at least carry brilliant humour and be of high quality whatever it is!
