View Full Version : Scared of RROD..... O_O.NO RECEIT.
hey, I have a PC, Laptop, 360, PS3, PSP, all for gaming. I game mostly on PC, PS3, and 360, in that order of what gets played the most, I dont unfortunately play on my 360 because well, lets just say RROD has frightened me into thinking if it does, I dont have a receit to get the 3 year guarentee, not to mention the whole my saves are lost if I have to replace the console anyway.... anyway. I recently bought GTA4 for PS3, free online attracted me plus the whole no multiplats for the 360, just exclusives only, to keep it alive as much as possible. I then bought GTA4 for 360, to see which was better in terms of everything, 360 won, except how loud the bloody disc drive is, I hope newer units have that fixed.... Ill happily trade this in for one that does have a quieter disc drive, the console is from June 2 years ago, so its 2 years old. Now Ive thought to myself, ok one multiplat, I dont even see GTA4 as a multiplat game anyway... its too dam good, its like PS3 and 360 are holding a delightful treat available to millions of people... so now I have to buy a yearly subscription to xbl I gots halo 3 aswell so its worth it. I hope that MS make the newer versions of the console more tough in technological standpoint, (no RROD ever), quieter too... praying it doesnt die, because if it does, I dont have GTA for any console... -_- Ill be trading the PS3 version of gta4 in for MGS4.

Well as long as you have your receipt you'll be fine :)
Seriously speaking, you just tell MS your Serial Number on your console and they can work out of it's still in warranty. How would proof of purchase to a store not affiliated with Microsoft themselves help you? All Xbox 360's are covered by the 3 year warranty until December.
Oh and you don't send your HDD in with your console so you don't lose any saves ;)

They just want the serial number on the back of the box. It is right next to that bar code and serial number which is next to the A/V output.

MS doesn't care about paper like that. They want the number on the back and that's it.
You could buy a RROD console off of a buddy and as long as it's not banned from Live because someone was using it for cheating, you could then call up MS and ask to get it fixed using the universal 3 year warranty. People do that all the time.

A lot of the older 360's were shipped with fundamental flaws in their hardware design, it was inevitable that a lot of them would RROD eventually. The fact yours has lasted 2 years is great, I doubt you'll have problems with it. The "bad apples" wouldnt last that long.
You shouldn't live in fear man, you're covered under the warranty anyways.

One of my mates has a 360 and he said it was a design fault in all of the first ones. He said he didn't play his much (he was too busy on his Wii) but he was expecting it to eventually fail.
He said the more you used it the more likely it was to fail.
Which I thought was kind of obvious.
Anyway, if I was you Alyxm, I'd be playing the crap out of hoping it failed just so I could get it replaced under warranty.

I've used the same HDD on 3 different 360s without issue, my brother has the ol 20 gigger now to use on his arcade unit since I have an elite.
Ok, allow me to clarify some matters; I've suffered the RROD and had a replacement.
No receipt = Ring MS now, register your X360 with them, tell them when you purchased and if the X360 suffers the RROD, they give you until 2010 now. ;) You won't need a receipt to send back to MS, they never ask for one. If you wish to return to store then you need the receipt.
HDD = You keep and when you get the X360 back you plug it in and all is fine, like myself play it smart and use the line "I don't want someone else's X360 back I want my one" what they then do is change the serial id's for whatever X360 they give you to be the same as your failed unit. End result is no DRM issues.

I have had plenty of consoles and BOTH of my HDD work fine in either system, I have never had to recover anything from LIVE. I just pop it in and play it. I can swap out mine for my son'e if he wants to play on the big TV with no issues. The serial number is on the back of the console and inside the USB door on the front.
And I agree, I got my other 360 from a buddy who bought an elite after his got the RROD, I called MS, had no issue and they sent me the cardboard coffin.
I will say that if you do have 2 consoles, you MUST be very clear to MS that you have 2 separate ones. I had both crap out with in 3 weeks of one antoher and had a hell of a time explaining how I got a console back and it crapped right out again, when in fact, it was a separate different console that did it. I had to speak with 3 different people to get them to understand that I had 2 xbox's in my house. They couldn't grasp the concept too easily.
