Ok. So I had a major scare the other day. I was just playing some of the best game ever (Mass Effect) and for no odd reason the power in my apartment just flickered, like went out and came back on literally 1 second later. So I look at my Xbox and it has the 3 red lights on the front!!!! So I was just sitting there for about 5 minutes like, "Well it finally hit me too". So instead of being sad, I decided to walk over to the Xbox, hit the power button and it turned off. So I crossed my fingers and turned it back on and it ran fine. I have been playing it for about 3 days now for a few hours a day and have had no problems. Weird...

It just happened to me twice because I accidentally unplugged the brick. Nothing to worry about man.

Just so you know, the Xbox 360 logs these errors too. That RROD that you received is permanently logged in the memory of the Xbox. Support will see that it received that error if you had to send it in. I confirmed this with support on my 4th returned 360.

Don' have a 360, but doesn't the RROD apply to a broken connection between the GPU and CPU as well as a problem with the power supply? Quite possibly your power supply went into "failsafe" mode when the power flickered; many computer power supplies do this to keep a surge from frying the motherboard and prevent the power supply from also getting fried (note I said prevent; it's cheaper to fry a power supply than a motherboard in ANY situation).

The 3 red lights can also mean that there has been a power interruption within the power supply. Your 360's completely fine, no worries.

This happened all the time in my old house, Everytime it would there was rain/wind the power would flicker at least once, and if I was playing I'd get the red ring.

I remember when I turned on my 360 one time and all 4 parts of the ring were flashing. I told my friend and he told me to try turning it on with my controller. Somehow that worked. But those rings never flashed red ever again when I turned on the 360 manually.

great asessment of this situation. Best explanation on this forum on to why RROD happens.

Didnt scare me at all when i got my RROD. I just called them, sent me the box, and sent it back and 10 days later dun dun, another xbox. ITs actually my same xbox. They completely gutted dvd drive and all. Before my xbox was HELL of loud due to the disc drive. Now its "almost" as quiet as my ps3.

Common scenario.
It always does that when you yank the power on it and then it comes back on.

My wife was playing Assassins Creed and she noticed the RROD, I yelled at her to shut it off and we gave it about 5 minutes and turned it back on. The console worked fine for about 2 months, then RROD again, but that was it, there was turning back for it...

This happens to me. But about every few hours...

It happened to me 4 times already and ive only had this console for two days now...

I turn it off, turn it on and bam, works fine. I think it could be the power brick but im not sure, it does get very hot and starts to smell a bit.

Your system is TOAST then. Time for another new one. Mine doesn't ever get hot, and never gets any errors. Yours should not either. I would take it back to where you bought it and exchange it for a new one.

Yeah I have had mine for about 8 months. Its an Elite and I heard they don't have the RRoD problem. I guess the only reason I got mine was because the power flickered. It has been running perfectly for a week now. And I have been playing the hell out of GRID with no problems.

turn it off, cool it down, use a fan or something until it is cool down. Then turn it back on ! Yes constanly turn it on and off won't work, remember the heat!!! I know It sucks. I borrow my cousin xbox360 for 6 months, it works fine, but just today, it act wierd. Now the problem is solved. SAYONALAA , NO more FEAR and furstration! I hate something like this happened. Time to move on and go back to my PS3 and wii.

Could it be just the power brick though?. Because the 360 itself doesnt get hot, its the power brick that gets hot and starts smelling like plastic after an hour or two.

Oh..the power brick...gotcha. Then yes, it could be just the power brick. I thought you were saying the 360 gets hot.
