GTA4 Final Mission Possible Spoilers!!!

I can't believe I am writing this but I need help. I have tried for couple of hours and there is no way I can get the boat under Little Jacob's plane.

I hold down the R2 button and can't get there in time so then I switch the controls and make it the X button and still can't get there in time. I try to climb down the ladder off the roof instead of doing the cut-screen and run along the walk and that doesn't work.

If there is any advice anyone has that beat it please help. I just want to finish this game so I can start MGS4.

Hmm. Are you taking the beach route? I'm sorry if I read it wrong, I'm just really tired, so I'll just explain how to do the whole thing.

Ok, when you get onto the roof, Pegorino will climb down the ladder. Kill the guys. You can take your time here though. Save your health, since you will need it later. Take cover as soon as you get down, and kill the guy that come up. Porceed slowly. Then after you are done, Pegorino, will be on a boat. If you get close, he will take off. As soon as he does, look near the dock area. There is a Sanchez parked next to the concrete area. I have no clue what its called.

Anyways, get on the Sanchez. Stay on the shore, dont go inland. Just follow the shoreline. Keep your speed up, and don't get any doubts. There are a few jumps that you may not see, or seem like you won't make it. Just do it. Eventually you will hear Roman tell you you jump onto his helicopter. Keep going down the beach. There is a ramp after a little house thing. Watch out for people, and random litter that can mess you up. Jump the ramp. You will get onto the helicopter.

Just get as close as you can and hit the square button. You don't have to be directly under the helicopter.

Same thing happened to me. I played it about 50 times before passing it, and only made it to the helicopter 3 times.

I honestly think there is a glitch in the game. Are you driving the boat in first person? That's what I was doing, and as soon as I tried the third person camera I made it. Try third person if you aren't already. If that isn't the problem then I guess the mission is just basically impossible.

Yeah, I can't say this mission made me like the game any better.

I think you can sort of take a short cut instead of climbing down the ladder, climb up the roof and jump! I don't know how much of a difference it makes, or if it's scripted for the chopper to leave once you get to the boat...worked for me

I dont think you have to get right on top of him?

Just let Pegorino shoot you with his rockets and it will automatically activate the cut scene as long as you stay out of the water!

Only real problem I had with that mission is the bike run. Here is a little tip that will help you out quite a bit. When you lock onto someone press up a bit and you are almost garentied a head shot. I use this quite a bit when I am in a hurry. Also when on the ladder pressing x (I think) will let you slide down the ladder. Also jump over the side to get to the bike instead of going down the ladder. Just be careful in doing that, since you might jump into the water.

First time I played it, I could not find where the guy went >.<. when running after him while he climbs the ladder down, it only takes me about 2 seconds to kill both of those guys if you use the trick I told you about.

Edit: What mission are you talking about? the last one where what his face kills your girl or the drug deal one? If you could go into a bit more detail, I could probably help.

im confused what part the OP is talking about. Does he mean the big gunfight at the warehouse, the bike chase leading up to the helicopter part or the helicopter flight itself?

I thought the last part was easier than getting through all those mafia goons!

For this mission, yes it is quite FUBAR and seems impossible. When they knock you off the chopper into the water, you need to get into the boat as fast as possible (which is a major headache - someone dropped the ball in the programming here)... when you get into the boat, you need to go around that bend the long way - try not to get too close to the big rock on the right (not that far either, but just try not to get too close and make a wide turn).

The reason for this - well, I don't know what the reason for this is other than it actually works (again, someone really dropped the ball here). You need to line yourself up with the next obstacles as soon as you turn that corner so that you can just go straight (which is really hard). Basically, you don't want to be doing a million turns after you make that wide turn - you want to be going as fast as possible.

As for getting under LJ's chopper, you don't have to be directly underneath it (a common misconception with the way they made it look), but somewhat underneath / near it. If you did it right, you shouldn't be turning and twisting like a maniac after you make that first turn with the boat, and you should slide underneath that. This was the most extremely painful and ridiculous experience in the whole game, and someone at R* probably needs to be publicly executed for how broken it is.

BTW, I hope you have a gamesave prior to when you had to make your choice, because I suggest you don't "complete" this ending. It should be the "revenge" ending you should do. But it's up to you.


Also, a tip on getting the guys at the warehouse (spoiler: you will have to go there on either ending)... Don't turn into the warehouse entrance where they turn you (where they show the cinematic of the car coming in and splashing through the water). Pass that entrance, and go to the other side of the warehouse on the street "above", and snipe the hell out of all of them from above while crouching. It saves you much headache. After you're done that, go and turn on the script for the guys inside the warehouse by going closer to the door. You'll know you've done it when you get a text message from LJ. Once you do that, go directly in front of the door, but by towards the road (from far away, facing the door). You can look inside with the sniper rifle and take out like 4-5 guys without hurting yourself. Once inside if you've done it right, all you have to do is kill the guy at the top left when you come in, and then a guy near the entrance to the next cinematic to the left.

Anyway... hopefully you don't "almost" break your game controller like I did! :evil:

I thought it was impossible. I had to go back and redo a lot of missions. I couldnt believe how insanely hard it was. Like it was said above, inept progamming. Just avoid it, i must have tried it 20 times (no checkpoint before it!) totally impossible.

i have beaten gta4 twice now so i could do it both ways. i think killing dimitri is an easier end than working with him. eather way they were a pain in the ***. if my tv wasnt so close i would throw the controller and HARD. i say flor it as hard as u can the entire time and it is all just a matter of luck. and why would u want roman to die and not kate

I completed the game on the PS3 and doing it again on the X360 now but this time letting Roman die instead of Kate.

I find they needed to progress the story furthermore, I mean what the hell happen to Mr. Bulgarin? Maybe they'll touch up on this and other questionable aspects in the DLC.

When you reach the rendezvous point you should automatically go to the cut-scene, after which you will need to get into the helicopter. There ought to be a yellow marker on the map to show you where to go. Just keep following DMitri's helicopter.

as someone said above me to go on the roof for all the guys outside the building, what they didn't say was the main building has holes all over the roof and it's possible to kill everyone from outside losing you less than half your armour.

Once through you'll do the heli grab and fall and get in the boat.

This is where I just went hell for leather, using up and down in time with the waves gives you more speed (trim ot the motor) once jacobs heli appears you shouldn't need to dodge any more rockets. I was trying to catch him from when he appeared.

Seriously, master using up and down to trim the boat, you'll thank me for it!

Meh. This is one of those missions where once you actually do it, it's not that hard at all. It took me like 20 tries to get into Jacob's heli, but once I actually did it, I never had a problem again.

The trick is just to stay as far left as you can. Jacob will eventually veer the heli toward you and you kinda run into him. What you don't want to do is follow directly behind Jacob's heli - that will make it impossible.

After you get in the heli, it's just a matter of being patient and staying with Dmitri's heli. Your goal is just a cut-scene, so it's not about shooting, it's just about not messing up (i.e., losing the other heli).

Seriously, once you actually do it, all this "impossible," "glitch" and "bug" talk will sound silly. It's just about knowing how, like anything else.

No, this mission is pretty broken. Firstly, there's no checkpoints so that means if you mess up one of the 2 or 3 parts, you have to start all over - and you have to stop in the middle of the firefight and go to the gun shop and get some armor and weapons to replenish your stocks from the last try, and then go back and continue the firefight with your enemies. That doesn't sound very logical to me.

The truth is, the boat mission is quite ridiculous because not only is it mechanically difficult to get into the boat quick enough (game mechanic failure), you also have to do almost nothing but go fast. It is basically chance if you don't know how to actually do it because there's no clear indication that what you're trying to do is even possible (if you're seeing LJ's chopper a mile away and you have to somehow get to it even though you're already going full throttle). There's a technique to it, but the fact that it is not even remotely obvious is a game flaw. After trying a dozen times, I had to look it up online how to do it because it was not one bit obvious what I had to do to go super fast and catch up to LJ's chopper.

Nevertheless, someone certainly dropped the ball on this last mission. It is not really that difficult - more like annoying more than anything. The difficulty level is just in the ridiculous game of chance you have to take while playing it, and repeating it all over again if you lose.

Can you name me one game that makes you go back and get that ammo in the middle of the epic final battle with the bad guys? It's messed up. I don't know how you can argue that point.

If you fail, and ignore the text message of trying again, you then have to do the lame-o high-speed pursuit again, just to get to the part where you start beating up bad guys - all because you wanted to get some armor and ammo. Yeah, that's messed up, and it's not an opinion. It's a gameflow flaw. And the game mechanic to get onto, and then into the boat is not efficient at all and quite troublesome.

Sorry, that is inaccurate. There is the cutscene before Niko goes upstairs to the roof.

This was key. I finally beat it last night and this worked perfectly. I did it one time holding down the "O" button and got to the Little Jacob and killed Dimitri. I can't believe I spent so many hours trying and all I needed to do was hold down the "O" button too. I recommend this if anyone was stuck like I was.
