I found this quite interesting. A forum goer over at Gametrailers assembled this list. Very strange isn't it. I would like to see someone come up with a comparative list of the same magnitude of Sony spreading lies about Microsoft. Half of these are either blatantly wrong or don't even make sense. I.E. Linux vs. XNA ?? Huh?
Is Microsoft running a viral campaigne against Sony? Here's a few articles that suggest they are. The first I found runs all the way back to 12th july 2006.

The upside, is they haven't said anything lately, which probably means any argument they make now is pointless. Furthermore, they have nothing that I can see that can counter the PS3 roster for the rest of this year and possibly next year.

Why? :?
It doesnt matter, because if you are a human being, you can differentiate between FUD and truth. Which company has spread more FUD has no effect on the games or features on the respective console.

But when you have a place with easily swayed "youths" (cough) Internet (cough) it acutally has a huge impact. There have been massive studies done called "the Mass Psyche" about controlling the thoughts of a large populous of people. The best way they found to which achieve this is the Control of Information.
Something to think about, with more government control in the US and ESPECIALLY in Europe.

Microsoft saying bad things about Sony...no, cant be! They would never do that.
Seriously though, M$ will take any and all shots they can against the PS3. Probably because they are afraid of the PS3's sucess and that its such a well known name. I'm pretty sure, if they haven't done it yet, they re due to start making pot-shots at Sonys attempt at in-game XMB and trophies.
Bottom line is, they will do whatever it takes to make consumers pick the 360 rather than the PS3. This is the nature of M$ and the nature of competitive marketing. In a way this is absolutely normal, but then again Sony really hasn't taken any shots at M$. At least they haven't done so in the same magnitude.

Actually, it does matter alot. Casual people who are not involved in this market enough can easily believe all that crap, and I'm pretty sure Microsoft would have significantly lower sales if there wasn't all of that.

Exactly. You combine Un-Informed Joe, and 15yr old Mike. MIke whom thinks "hes in the know" and Joe who is your casual consumer preparing to buy a game system and you end up with microsoft Baiting the market.
They are damn good at it, I give them that. But theres something about the way they do buisness in an under-handed and slithery fashion that makes me stay far away from them.

Yeah, its kind of like undecided voters, they are easily swayed and basically go back and fourth with the news and info that comes to them.

they are just scared because they know that their in big trouble in about a year maybe two. Sny will pass them and they are going to be in the same boat as when the ps2 was out. they had an inferior product then and it showed towards the end. bill gates is retiring soon so who knows the lies and buying "exclusives" might stop but i DOUBT it. Burn M$ Burn. LOL:2gun:
Actually we had a thread like this................right here on ps3forums.......quite a while back....here check it out,was quite fun.

I got an infraction the last time I posted something about M$. Basically, my disrespect for them goes further than most anything else I know, if not everything.
But I'll just say this to refrain from getting another infraction - M$'s comments are the result of their fear. They launched a massive 360 campaign right at the launch of MGS4. Different things like this - it's what they're doing because they know they have absolutely nothing going for them and they're doomed in the gaming market. At E3, I guarantee M$ will have something new that will surprise us all, maybe some kind of service to rival Playstation Home, but targeted at the hardcore American spazz. But Sony will still take the floor, showing off God of War 3, and many new things that will blow our minds faar beyond whatever M$ shows. Then Sony's momentum will continue throughout the rest of this year and a little of next year before the PS3 passes the 360 up in world wide sales.
Don't ask me how I know this, I have secret informers. (lol) But really, I keep up with both gaming and business, and I'm giving my assumtions based on the past and what I know about Sony and Microsoft.

Wow...that person has a lot of time on their hands. I don't have that kind of time, but it would be a similar list of items for $ony's viral campaign as well.
Not only is it not worth the time, but the time you spend doing that could be spent gaming on my PS3 or 360 :)

While it doesn't have a direct effect, indirectly using such a tone and such tactics affects us all. It poisons and polarizes an industry beyond mere professional competition. Some developers will make platform choice for some games based on perception of the current market and its trend. Finally the investors which are also pressuring publishers and developers might be easily influence by perception and steer decisions.
I think each product and its games should stand on its own. Each company should only focus about marketing their own products and not attack the competition or be baited by interviewers trying to get hits to their sites.

This is one of the main reasons I did not buy an Xbox this gen.
Well MS did mix in a few truths in there
Sony has struggled with HOME
and Sony has helped them with their own missteps
1080p obviously matters or they wouldn't of tried to match it.
PS3 is so not the betamax they were hoping for killing off HDDVD was big for Sony.
And yes HDDVD can do something blu ray can't I just don't know what it is.

Yep had the first Xbox. I watched them closely to see what they offered this gen.
The tactics they used at the beginning of this gen made me lose respect for their professionalism.
The other reason is that I saw they removed the standard harddrive and didn't upgrade the disk format. Also by knowing they didn't profit on the original Xbox, they would seek out the cheapest outsourcing as possible.
So I came to the decision not to buy one.
Research doesn't seem "stupid" to me.

There is always a war of words between competing companies. This thread amounts to yet another 'anti-sony conspiracy theory'.

I'm in pretty much the same boat, except I only had an xbox 1 because my brother sold his (hacked) xbox to me cheap. The PS2 had everything I needed, although the FPS genre was a nice change of pace i.e.. Halo 1.
But as I watched them (Microsoft) closely as a company and also there presence in the industry I noticed something. They were degrading the entire industry. Yes Live is nice, but honesty it was going in that direction anyway. Ken Kutaragi had ideas for HOME before the original Xbox. The way they started the FIRST-EVER subsciption based service (live) the way the media started to get alittle more violent which beforehand was pretty docile. It was always about Sega or Nintendo. And it seemed If you chose one that was ok. You didn't have to HATE the other, it was just your preference. Well Microsoft's Viral Marketing since the XBOX days, have really saturated the minds of many gamers, Especially the 12yr old Halo generation. There is unmistakable HATRED in the air.
This was never the case prior. I was Born in 82, and have seen the life of all the consoles from Coleco Vision unti now. There is definetly more Poison in the air, i dont know how to describe it.
oh well most of them are lies n true they havent said stuff in ages, they cant talk shyt now...............

Maybe you should follow the forum rules and stop using the inflammatory term 'M$' then :suspect:
Sony have done the same the whole way along, just nobody on the green side cares enough to make a list. Remember Sony Liverpool getting caught editing the Wiki page for Halo3 to try to kill the hype? Then, off the top of my head, there's always
"xbox 1.5"
"next gen doesn't start until we say it does"
"rumble is last gen"
"true HD"
"game 3.0"
etc, etc, blah blah blah.
One thing for sure is that the tactics are much more dirty and agressive this gen. None of the players are innocent but I think most would agree that one player certainly stands out as the leader in this category.

"True Generation" = Fluff to say they have an outstanding product and have alot in store.
"PS3 is the new BetaMax" = Its a straight up attack, and produces (F)ear (U)ncertainty and (D)oubt in a consumers mind aka. FUD
I think that clarifies it.

"Xbox 1.5" seems like an attack to me. But definitely one of the few.
They've both been pretty bad this gen. Both have lied outright about their products and their competition. I'm not real impressed. This makes all the stupid Sega/Nintendo stuff about "blast processing" look like a friendly tea party.

It's just that a deal obviously was struck between Microsoft and Take Two to do that, and if that's what they want to do, I think that's the last shot they have
2 parts to the article,1st, attack on MS, 2nd part about possibilty of DLC
For all of you who think Sony arent as bad as MS...LOL. Get your blinkers off.
I don't think I've got blinkers on to speak of. Sony is a pretty nasty company, they lie, they've crushed legitimate businesses with frivolous lawsuits, they've undermined standards and compatibility a dozen times, and so on.
On the other hand, Microsoft gave us botnets, and by every available indication, they knew it could happen, but didn't care.

The are as bad as each other in my eyes, they are companies, and companies are after your money.
Still could be worse, they could be the government, they demand your money. :)
There's a lot of room for companies to be more or less evil. Neither Sony nor MS would be a big favorite on my list of places to work, or places I'd want my business to be dependent on, though...
