Hey everyone... ive become a AAA game player this gen... i rarely pick up anything that doesnt have a 8.7 or above score on metacritic. I own 360 and PS3... but this is a 360 question...

by experience i know that many times there are great games that reviewers rate low and since ive become a score ***** this gen i may be missing out on them. Ive played thru all my 360 library so far and have found all the games to be AAA...

these are the titles i own, i added some that i forgot to list:

mass effect (best and only RPG i ever played (hate magic spells/fantasy))
assassins creed (amazing graphics, 8.0 gameplay)
gears of war (instant classic)
bioshock (graphics tech was not that good, but art direction was)
call of duty 4 (once i got passed first 2 levels it was amazing)
gta 4 (impressed by graphics and emotional side)
halo 3 (didnt find it as good as 1 but it was ok)
orange box (portal rules)
army of two (decent splitscreen co-op)
pes3
virtua tennis3

i like games with splitscreen co-op/vs or also a game with a great single player story... i dont play much online ;)... are there any great games im missing in my library... i was thinking perhaps something like the SNES title Ninija Turtles 4: turtles in time... or something like that... I didnt really like Ninja Gaiden 1 on xbox or God Of War on ps2 so maybe action games are out of the question... anyone got any suggestions to what i should get??

I used to be like that too until someone pointed out the error of my ways. I stopped looking at the review scores and started watching gameplay and reading and watching the developer interviews. Man, I learned in a big way what I was missing.

Here are some hidden gems that got mediocre reviews but were an absolute blast to play.

Overlord
Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom
Kameo
Ninja Gaiden 2
Devil May Cry 4
Fight Night Round 3
Call of Juarez
Team Fortress (Orange Box) - This is one of the most under-ratted games out there.
Viva Pinata
Assassin's Creed
Call of Duty 2
Need for Speed- Most Wanted
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Dead Rising

There are some great games out there that aren't for everyone, but depending what you like, you can find some hidden gems and on the cheap at either Goozex, eBay or Gamestop.

How about some old Xbox games on backwards compat? Thats what I am doing right now, I picked up Fable: The Lost Chapters and KOTOR 1 and 2 off ebay for cheap. Those are going to keep me busy for a while.

You forgot Crackdown and Gears of War....kind of two really big ommissions there considering these two are two of the best games out this gen let alone those available on the Xbox360.

I also don't really normally enjoy RPG's but check out Lost Odyssey and to a lesser extent Blue Dragon. I myself find fantasy and spells and all that **** rather annoying but I was damned addicted to Lost Odyssey.

Furthermore if you like racers definitely check out Porject Gotham Racing 3 & 4. The Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games are also exceptional. Naruto Rise of a Ninja is also a lot of fun. Condemned 1 & 2 are also brilliant games that will scare the crap out of you late at night.

Then there's a metric **** tonne of stuff on XBLA like Super Puzzle Fighter, Ikaruga, Rez HD, N+, Prince of Persia, Assault Heroes, Trigger Heart Excelica etc.

I never really liked Crackdown. Guess it's more of a preference thing. If you're thinking of buying some new games I suggesting borrowing them from a friend or renting them first.

Condemned 1/2, Crackdown, The Darkness and Ninja Gaiden 1/2 would be my recommendations.

I've been thinking of buying a 360 to enjoy all the multiplatform games that suck on the ps3 . Plus I've never played gears of war or halo, actually I've hardly ever played any xbox games except chronicles of riddick .

Really? I thought that game was awful!

Viva Pinata, definitely and most other stuff mentioned in this thread.

Again, many reviews were bad, but I enjoyed the game. It's not for everyone but more like a cult following type game.

Brilliant game, loved it. Psuedo RPG elements with solid shooter mechanics and the darkness powers are absolutely awesome.

Was very underrated and under appreciated.

If you don't mind some cheap boss fights and fighting off hordes of zombies, I'd recommend Dead Rising. It was one of the first games I bought for the 360 when I got it, and I loved it (recent trade in). Good game to generate some achievement points, too.

Game reviewers are really an nuisance these days. I have played many games with low scores and had a blast with them.

One of the biggest gripes that I am having with reviewers is that they always discuss the length of games in terms of time. That's a terrible thing to do simply because of the vast difference in skill levels out there. Just don't discuss length at all because it's so relative.

Take Bioshock for example. It took me well over 20 hours because, aside from dying, I took the time to search everything out, explored every nook & cranny and enjoyed the scenery.

To simply run through a game is a waste of money for the gamer. There are so many little things that devs put into a game that go unnoticed without exploring and checking everything out. You really miss out when you do it that way.

IMO, the people that play games in this manner are no better than those who dismiss a game because of graphics. Many people buy a game on launch day and just try to beat it by running through. Then they complain about the game being too short. If you play a game they way it was meant to be played, it will be enjoyed much more.

I have the ps3 version of the game and its a pretty good game. Its not ground breaking or anything and the story and graphics and pretty well done. I would recommend it.

I loved the Katamari games on the PS2 and PSP, you should try Beautiful Katamari, I bought it today, I'll tell you how it is once my mate gives me my 360.

Thank you so much for saying that my Friend!

I absolutely have no idea why people rush through games so fats like they are having a contest against themselves.....for what reason? They are the only ones loosing out, they pay for a game but yet rush through it......it is like buying a blockbuster DVD Video and fast forwarding through it......!!!

I as well take all the time I need and want just so I can see absoluetly all that the Game designers have put in to the game single game or MMO...........Many MMO players need to be the first to reach top level but ask them what they think of the story or how did this region or that region look like and they will say "what story" or I must have missed that section of the map etc.................

I just bought Gears of War, decent game.

I need a good online game tho, Ive been thinking about picking up RSV2, but I dont know how many people play it online, because Im more into modern day shooters.

I already have Cod4 on ps3, and I hate halo .

How about this, make sure you play on the hardest level available or invest in games that will put you against real life people online, games that will make you come back for revenge or join a competitive team. Also purchase some of the games listed above or some games that take atleast 30+ hours to beat. Sports, Racing, Fighting, Tactical FPS or RPGs either have lost of replay value or take forever to beat.
