Right this thread is not to discuss the merits of this type of game, as there are many people who hate this "button-bashing" style of game. That kind of discussion just repeats itself with one group saying they like the game and the other saying they hate it.

That said, there is one problem with the game that I can see. All of the records are online only, which isn't that bad a thing, but it causes another problem.

If you want to have a decathlon for instance with up to four friends at your house, players 2, 3, 4 all share your name and psn id, and you can't change it!!! For example, if my player uses my psn id of: craigiversen, then player 2 comes up as craigiversen 2 and player 3 as craigiversen 3!

I believe this has been done to make sure that only the appropriate online psn id is in use and that my friends wouldn't get a record that would end up submitted to psn and end up placing what could be someone elses psn id as their high score.

Effectively, none of my friends want to play multi player on it when they come around, as there are no offline records and ability to change the names of players 2, 3 & 4.

I'd like to approach the developers with an e-mail and hopefully with a few others get a patch released. It's a pretty major flaw. When I put the game in for the first time I had to load an update, so they obviously are doing some form of updates for this title.

Besides all of that, I'm enjoying the game itself. My best record online is a worldwide 100th and something place for Pole Vault.

Anyone else enjoying this title and have their thoughts?

I was actually going to buy this but then read some reviews and gathered some opinions mostly negative. I was mainly interested in the variety of the different events, if you could mention some positives/immpressions or good events ect I would be grateful.

agree with you 100% i would love to have local records to see who did what and compete among friends and see who is best at a particular event. i hate that you cant even pick your own name... everyone ends up being zentario 1, zentario 2 etc and no scores get registered on any local leaderboards... that needs fixing for sure, they can easily do everything local and leave you an option of uploading the best local scores under your psn name to online leaderboards.

plus all the on line leaderboards.... well not all but 100m for example is full of cheats.... like 10 people got 100m in 00.00.... what the hell is that... even 7seconds is bad enough... but 0... and sega seemed to have tried to sort it out since leaderboards got reset like a day or so after i got the game hence erasing my top 5 non cheating score in 100m... only to find all the 00.00s back up there again...
at least events like shooting and archery are fine....

what do you think of the events yourself man? i found table tennis and boat race thing very very poor... the rest are quite nice... except judo where they dont tell you what combos there are and you have to figure them out yourself.... kinda strange.

for me i like disc throwing, archery, rapid fire pistol shooting, and 100m, and acrobatic dancing one, how about you?

I totally agree about the online leaderboards. If they aren't going to be accurate and are going to allow cheats to ruin it for everyone else then people will only compare against friends list players, which if yours is zentario then I might add yours. Sounds to me like your no cheat, lol!

I like the discus throwing too. Long jump's not bad. Haven't done many except for the standard decathlon track and field events so far. I've found most events are made well, and they've tried to get rid of button-bashing from a few events too, which is good.

I haven't played as many events as I will yet, but I'd say to EVILPS3 above, that there's plenty of value for money. If one or two events aren't your thing, your bound to find at least 10 or 15 that will be. I'd give it a hire and then see if you want to buy. I read some negative reviews too, but other than the one major hiccup I mentioned above, it's not too bad and incredible value with 38 events.

yeah man add me, it is zentario but i am off to holiday for a week now, so i will look out for you when i am back.

there was another thread about this game, but people just dismiss it as a button masher... my friend hates button mashing and he was over at my place a few days ago and we had a 2-3 hours run at all the events that dont include any kind of button mashing.

i also love the playoffs format in archery and in judo... you and friends all start in separate quarter finals vs computer oponent.... then if you progress, you meet each other in the final or the semi final depending on how many players you have... was close lol i hit a 10 my mate cracked under pressure and got a 9 on his last shot.

rapid fire pistol event is crazy.... start off with hitting 5 targets in 8 secs then they cut your time to 4 secs... good fun trying to get a high score, a bit of fps experience comes in handy lol.

I've found that the developers have a forum, so we can contact them and ask for a patch for offline records & scores!

I'm starting a thread there now. They are called Eurocom. The thread is here: http://www.eurocom.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=587#587

Sorry to add this, but I wanted to bump this and give an update on Offline High Scores. Eurocom are saying that they will not fix this broken part of the Beijing 2008 game. Here is the last part of my conversation with Eurocom. (Coco is another user who has complained too).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can see this subject getting closed, but I may as well make my point before it does. I totally agree with Coco. This feature would've been so easy to implement.

The simple way would've had the front end menu system have an Online Mode and an Offline Mode.

Online would've all been handled by playstation network, just as it is now.

Offline would've posted any scores and records to an offline high scores list. This could've been accessed by going through a Offline High Scores menu. This is a basic feature and always has been.

My PS3 has 3 user profiles on it. Mine, my wife's and our tenant's. If we were playing a 3 player game in offline mode on my user profile and achieved some records, they would simply be saved to a records splash page in the offline menu. They would only find those records under my profile. It would not affect PSN accounts AT ALL!

Do I need to come work for you guys and show you some basic system analysis skills, to help you understand how to implement features, that are not at all revolutionary?

Other games do this now. Many in fact and have for a long time. Offline high scores and online leaderboards!!!! This is amazingly do-able and I honestly thought a patch was coming out. I sincerely can't recommend this game to anyone else who enjoys having company come over to play some multiplayer. I've already had two friends tell me they will not be buying it unless a patch comes out and one of them has told a friend I don't know about it.

I believe that the real reason an Offline High Scores list isn't included is that Eurocom were probably afraid that their public wouldn't be intelligent enough to understand that offline high scores wouldn't be uploaded to psn. There would've then been complaints from some gamers expecting their offline scores to appear as online records.

I'm also a mature gamer like Coco, (I'm 33), although I'm past the stage of worrying about things and I'm selling my copy after the Olympics if there is not a patch (which they've told me straight to the point, there will not be).

I've posted all of this info on PS3 Forums and some others and I'd realistically guess maybe some other people are only going to rent this now. Not a huge dent in sales, I'm sure it means nothing, but at the end of the day I've learned my lesson and will not buy a Eurocom game again.

Although with the wording of the responses from Eurocom so far, it seems obvious that this situation is a closed book and will not ever be looked at. Do-able or not.

Thanks for what you did do in making this title, but in general this game may as well be broken for me and others, due to this issue.
