Anyone heard of this title, just saw a commercial for it and it looks quite interesting. I have always been into these kinds of games from Ages of Empires to Sim City. Anyway, IGN gave it a 8.8 outta 10, thats pretty good. But my question is, is it in stores yet, because Gamespot says it hits the shelves on July 8th, but there are a TON of user reviews already, meaning that it could already be out.

There's a demo in the store, comes out this week. I enjoyed the demo so I am definitely going to pick it up. I have never really played the other Civ games, so I have no opinion on the features they do or don't have in the game, try the demo though it's great

I like the game very much aswell. However, did anyone try the online part of the demo? Each time I try it says check your connection settings.

I managed to play ONE online game with the demo. Great fun, but the person who joined left mid way - after I took over two of his/her cities. After that, I didn't bother with online, and just stuck to single player.
It's an oke game.
If you played the series before, you would defo like CIVIII more then Revolution

i dont really know much about the civilization series but the demo turned me into a buyer. i thought it was pretty good plus its the close to an rts we will be seeing on a ps3 for awhile.
the only thing is that gamespy is handling the online part. i hope this doesnt turn out to be another game that i cant play online because i dont wanna forward my port. i have yet to play EOJ online because i cant connect.
does anyone know why sony made the online this way? i have never had to forward a port to play any game on xbl. hell i was even able to host games on xbl.

QFT! iv your new to the series then rev is okay but if your more hardcore and have played the others and like alittle more depth civ 3 is ust superb!
I heard there are less advanced options than the PC versions... so it seemed like a no buy for me. If anyone who has the game can confirm... this is what I heard the game doesn't have:
No custom maps
Can't change map size
Can't play past 'Victory'
Can't change 'Victory' rules
Can't select number of AI
Can't select enemy empires
Those are some major things that I love on the PC... mainly the ability to choose 'Victory' conditions, play past 'Victory' and change the map size and customize it. I don't know why they didn't add these things as it wouldn't have been too hard and wouldn't mess up the control layout, as all of it would be set up prior to starting the game and it wouldn't make it hard on anyone not wanting to use the features/options.
Oh well, I enjoyed the demo... but I was hoping that they would add the things I listed above... and since they didn't I will probably be sticking to Civ 4 on the PC.
With ttech10 on this. After playing the demo this was day 1 purchase, but I am now getting some doubts. The map in the demo is awfully small and tweaking a game has always been a big part of CIV for me as well.

I got it all above is true, also i notice that im using warriors in 1900's does the time not match your armies and technology often in other civ games. I played 2 and jeez the games go on for ages.

I already bought the game and all the mentioned conditions above are true. I also hate the fact that I cannot interact with other civs except to trade technologies and bribe them to attack my enemy. They also contact me just to blackmail me of giving some technologies/money to them in exchange of leaving me in peace for only a few turns. Only on rare occasions did the AI want to exchange their techs with me..... and this game does not allow the player to establish alliances with other civs.
My opinion..... this is just a lightweight version of the Civilization series on PC. It does not posses the depth compared to its PC predecessors. It is a good game on its own (probably why IGN gave it 8.8/10)..... but those who love the PC version might be disappointed with this.

Those are the big reasons for me why this game went from a day one buy to just another rental now.
