I didn't realise the router made such a difference. I dont even know what mine is called.
I'm beginning to think that it may be the solution to my problem of really bad lag.
Are there any ports that are required to be open?

I have mine on DMZ so there isn't a problem with that.
Any routers?

i just went with another Linksys. Just look and see if its for gaming. Like N or N+. Plus WiFi certified is always a good sign of compatibility. I use mid level N150. But N+ or Linksys N300 would be needed if u have buddies come over to LAN party it ^.

I used to have a Lynksys so i don't want another one!
Any confirmed Netgear or any other make will be fine with me!

Anything apart from a Lynksys would be fine!

Oh. Well i cant think of any off the bat i had a netgear n it just suckd. I had to restart my router every hour. It was a mid grade router like the one i have now. I suggest going to a store that takes 30 day returns and just go get a gaming router. You'll be forking over $75 + for anything half decent. Try it n take it back if it sucks. Trust me.... when i was looking i tried forums and reviews. Nothing satisfied me enough to order it online. Wut kind of wierd router are u using ne ways? Linksys and Netgear are usually compatable, unless it super old, but even then the website should have drivers to DL to fix compatabiliy issues. There are no cheap ones that werk great. U get what u pay for. So stop looking for something special and go get a Netgear "Gaming" router. Nothing Stresses ur router more than LAN Gaming so just dont buy nething less than top notch if want to LAN.

I bought a Netgear WGR614 recently and it works wonderfully.
It was already NAT type 2 right out of the box, which was a huge improvement over my older linksys. Wired and wireless connections have very similar speeds and I've used both.
$40.00 from newegg and I haven't regretted it for one second.

I have a Belkin N and it was about $65.00 in Wal-mart and to tell you the truth I was very worried about connections problems cuz I'm a n00b in online gaming (my first time trying online) and everything went smother than I hoped for, no problems, no disconnects till now and I have yet to see any lag on any online I tried (3 weeks playing w/o problems).

well i can't help you then...because the only routers my friends and i have ever used are Linksys...

i've used the same Linksys router for the past 4 years and its worked FLAWLESSLY...brought the PS3 home back during the winter of 2007 and she connected right away and has worked perfectly ever since...

I'm using a WGR614 v7 and I'm happy with it as well. Works fine with the PS3, and all of the computers in my house.
I think you can find them cheaper than that if you shop around, too. ^^
