The reactions over the past few days have all been really solid. Overall, the reactions after the recent announcement were all really positive.
I can tell that people are really excited about what we're going to do with the PS3forums brand in terms of getting serious about broadening the audience, content, and accessibility.
We are not positioning for a full takeover of the PS3forums. We intend to allow Seb Hayes, Kieran O'Neill, and Anthony Hanses to continue to guide the forums how they see fit. They have all proven to be extremely trustworthy and capable leaders.
There will be changes, but we intend to make them as non-intrusive as possible.
PS3Forums.com has proven itself to be one of the best gaming forums on the internet. Microsoft absolutely believes that the networking equipment we have provided will help them to grow and prosper even more over the coming months and years.

Microsoft, Rebon and Morpheus are soon going to seal the deal. As soon as this happens these forums will be sponsored by Microsoft. Although PS3forums.com will still be our web address we are searching for another good web address. Rebon and Morpheus will still run the site and we know Siren will remain a mod, but we don't not know if the rest of the mods will remain mods. I do not know how this will affect PS3 Land and PS3 Portal.
Do to firefox's disregard to the admins' words, he has been banned.

We knew some members would be upset, but think of it this way: company sponsor ship = a better and faster server. With Google ads, it would have depended people clicking to generate revenue and we can't exactly ask or force people to click. This way we can be sure that we have enough money to keep the forums running.

Well, one of the reasons Firefox was told to keep it down was this. No one wanted him to announce it to the forums 2 days before April and confuse everyone.
I'm not sure i like this, i'm getting worried now you guys. If it's an april fool joke you've got me, but please could someone just PM and tell me that it's false, i'm just getting really worried now. Also, will i get banned for having an apple sig and avatar?

Being seriouse here, how would you expect people to act two days before April 1st? I don't know why this site cost you guys so much to run. I run two UBB boards which take far more resources then a php board would. If that is the reason, then why not set up a sponsor drive where members can donate money via PayPal or cut back on the rooms.
I'm personaly still not buying this, but if this is true, its your guys board. :P

Well if it makes the forum faster and better than I guess its alright (although a small part of me is feeling that this is like selling your soul to Satan)
Are there any terms of this sponsorship? I mean ones that will somehow force a change upon the forum?
Guys, I'm sorry to say it, but it's true. I talked to one of the admins personally.
We won't have any server problems anymore though, and they don't think the forums will change much except for a few small ads.

Some of the benefits are;
A possible Microsoft funded commercial (not sure about this)
Faster servers
An increase in forum population
And there will still be a PS3 Discussion and Nintendo Revolution Chat because it will not be the official Xbox 360 forum.

Like I said before, ads don't ensure the admins fixed income for the server. It's the same with member donations and over 500 dollars a month is a lot.
This forum has quite a few members and we have had quite a few problems recently where the board would either be really slow or crash.
Don't know about everyone else, but I personally think this is a positive move for the board. :|
Well, this is a great way for us to go. Microsoft supporting this website, means our forum staff for two years is now wanting money. But that's ok, Microsofts help is great. It's all ok, too bad it just had to be so close to April's Fools for me, it's hard to believe it's true. But this is good in all ways to help the forums out.

notice how on top it says "unofficial" ps3 forums. they can do whatever they want here. if you go to the "official" forums at playstation.com. you will get the best info and way bigger community and wont be bothered with microsofts crap.

Still doesn't make sense to me. But ok. I use FireFox anyway that blocks all the ads. So why such a big company like M$ would want to support a small PS3 board is beyond me. But bring it on then. :roll:

I am sorry to say that this version of irony is not really entertaining at all, it is actually unsettling. Hearing this kinda makes me feel that I'm under wiretaps that our government performs basically on a daily basis, and that makes me very uncomfortable. If you think about it, this move by Microsoft is a probably a tactic of theirs to get more customers onto their side, over the PlayStation 3 and the Revolution, in turn, showing what Microsoft really is, a money-mongering monopoly, and that's my opinion on the matter.

So the mods are leaving over their own wishs due to M$ now sponsoring this site and not because its part of the contract? And if this is true, its no surprise why Siren would stay. Some reason I'm still not buying it, but I guess will see in the coming days.

Companies have implanted users into rivals forums for a long time. This is the next step up from that. I'm sure we have a few "implants' in these forums now, but it doesn't drastically kill any discussion, if anything, it fuels them. Ad space wouln't kill our forum experience, but if it turns into a bash Microsoft and get banned kind of thing, that's when it goes down hill.

It's definitely a weird situation, and the timing couldn't make this look more fake, but believe me, it's real. I don't think the changes will be too big (at least, I hope not...). Hopefully, all the Mods and SMC will keep our same positions still, we're not fully notified on the deal that Rebon made with Microsoft, but he used the word "sponsored" and not "bought" when he told us in the Forum Staff boards.

I do have a suggestion about the deal, how about reconsider everything, look over everything, don't think of you guys, but think of the community as a whole and how it will be affected. If this deal were to go down as is, there will probably be a large mass of people leaving the site and not looking back. This is my suggestion, and also a possible warning.

I Don't get why people think this will turn into an MS board. webhostingtalk.com is sponsored by a server company even though they discuss the hosting/server industry as a whole. The mods there remain objetive as well. If they can accomplish this, I believe we can too.
No one's asking you to buy the advertised products right? If you don't want to, don't buy it. The people on webhosting talk certainly don't complain about ads advertising hosting companies.

But whats wrong with the server now? Yes it dies every now and then but what server doesn't? Just doesn't make sense to me, but I will go along with it.

If the rules where not so strick here.....i would have use very bad language to express my feelings. I am very dissapointed with this. I was going to spend a lot of my time here waiting for a ps3. Luckely i am a member to other forums....

I'm with you on this. Also why didn't the owner of the board announce this? This is a huge change to the community, he should be the one bringing the bad news. :P
As Adam said, Rebon said that the board is being sponsored, not bought. I can bear ads in return for a smooth running server.
But whats wrong with the server now? Yes it dies every now and then but what server doesn't? Just doesn't make sense to me, but I will go along with it.
There will be an announcement soon.

I still feel that, that set up is still a little too Microsoft induced, basically putting their sections first and also throwing ads onto the site almost feels owned by Microsoft, not sponcered. Anyways adamba4e, you double posted.

So you guys couldn't ad this on your own? :? I can understand needing help to support the cost, but having a compititor sponsor a site that has "ps3forums" in its url? Sorry, this just doesn't add up. Mostly because M$ doesn't get anything out of it. Ok, so you say they get thousands of pop up ads. How many people these days see or get them? Most people who are members of this site probably use Firefox and block such, and IE even blocks such now. So where does M$ see any gain in sponsoring this site with pop ups and ads?

Companies have implanted users into rivals forums for a long time. This is the next step up from that. I'm sure we have a few "implants' in these forums now, but it doesn't drastically kill any discussion, if anything, it fuels them. Ad space wouln't kill our forum experience, but if it turns into a bash Microsoft and get banned kind of thing, that's when it goes down hill.

You know, im part of the staff on www.matchbox360.co.uk which is all about the 360 and I was such an ms fanboy at one time, and then I found this site it it really opened my eyes because I had been taken away from all the "yes men".
This is the only good PS3 forum I have really been bothered with and now... The poison is getting hold of this forum too... You have a community here for PS3, without the community there is no site so when MS come and advertise this place to death with crap games like PGR3 and PDZ then wow... I still dont want to believe this is genuine.
Advice for the deal? Screw it up and throw at at ms, set up a donate link and carry on leading the way instead of being sell outs.

It's not like Microsoft are going to inform their fans to spam our site. You're making this out to be a bad thing when it is probably one of the best things to happen to the forums. Don't act like animals, look to the positive side of this. The forums will be running faster with fewer glitches and all we will have to put up with are some ads if I understand correctly. 1. The SMC has not discussed this, only the mods and admins knew about this.
2. Rebon does not know this info was leaked yet.

We made a couple of jokes for aprils fools and my site, and the staff were never aware of it, in some cases not even the other admins were aware of it, you know, sometimes you have to fool your nearest persons first, before getting to the mainstream :wink:

I'm not going to tell the admins how to run their own site. The internet is a set of delocalized dictatorships. I have no right to any of this website, nor do I have a claim in where this website goes. Only where I go. I can tell you that I long since refused to visit Tom's Hardware for their questionable "sponsorship" conflicts of interest.
If you really want to retain my trust, especially when I have already had the very negative experience of having posts I would like to appeal deleted outright, and the refusal of the mods/admins to admit that anything was deleted, it will have to be a VERY transparent process.

Why didn't Morpheus/Rebon etc... turn to Sony and say "Hey, M$ is trying to sponsor our PS3FORUMS.COM site, here's the deal they offered us.... Can you just match this offer to keep our well moderated site up and free from a M$/xbox360 take over?" I mean, seriously, wouldn't Sony take the time to even listen to a proposal to keep not only 1, but 3 PS3 sites, even unofficial, from being bombarded with the competitions adds?
This is by far the best PS3 website I've seen. It is clean and practically flame free. The users backup their theories with facts and research. If a Sony PR were to come on here, he would think the same. I see no reasons for admins to not turn around and ask Sony for a sponsorship of better or equal value to M$'s offers.

The reactions over the past few days have all been really solid. Overall, the reactions after the recent announcement were all really positive.
I can tell that people are really excited about what we're going to do with the PS3forums brand in terms of getting serious about broadening the audience, content, and accessibility
We are not positioning for a full takeover of the PS3forums. We intend to allow Seb Hayes, Kieran O'Neill, and Anthony Hanses to continue to guide the forums how they see fit. They have all proven to be extremely trustworthy and capable leaders.
There will be changes, but we intend to make them as non-intrusive as possible.
PS3Forums.com has proven itself to be one of the best gaming forums on the internet. Microsoft absolutely believes that the networking equipment we have provided will help them to grow and prosper even more over the coming months and years.

It could have been really easy for you to ask to one of your friends to create and account and you, rebon or morpheus modify it, so if any moderator tries to track down the ip, it could see that its actually coming from microsoft :wink:

If this were real, I don't see the need to provide a highly sensitive information like an IP address of some really important M$ guy to prove it.
And I don't see what the big fuss is about, I mean, Sony and Microsoft are the same, both making billions of dollars in revenue every year, and feeding off of consumers. All this religious PS3/Sony worshipping is getting to be a crazed mush, just embrace everything, Microsoft isn't evil, Sony isn't god, live with it.

Come on, getting rid of the PS3 games, PS2 and PSP section?
Reorganize them as well, whereas the 360 section would be the main one, along with the addition of one for games?
Microsoft themselves are setting the deal with the administrators?
How odd, this had to happen right after a discussion about changing to an own server was being held, and right before April starts.
In addition, some Moderators and SMC members have contradicted themselves regarding the direction the forums would be taking, and whether or not it is strictly only a sponsorship deal, and if their current position on the forums will even remain.
Oh newsflash, JAllard is taking part of the forums today, as an industry insider, Firefox is banned permanently (and he even warned he wouldn't care at first..right..) and there's a fresh announcement made by one of the Admin. A whole lot for one single day huh? :P
And this is happening..right here, right now? Wait, it makes perfect sense then actually, it could happen..
