View Full Version : Xenon is not all that impressive (Graphic-wise)

Look at the back, it says "Congradulation to the Xenon launch". If this is a fake, then it's a pretty darn good fake. There's plenty more where this came from, just google around.
Quite frankly, the graphics suck... Yes, it looks better than DOA 3, but not by a whole lot .
siren, got anything to say about this?

ftp://mirrors.blueyonder.co.uk/sites/kikizo.com/screens/deadoralive4/04.jpg The background looks good, but that's because it's pre-rendered, nothing new there.

Holy Moly I hope those aren't Xbox 360 graphics, if they are then MS are in trouble, even the PC's at the end of this year should be putting out graphics better or at least on par with that.
Mak, most rumours indicate that they ARE real Xbox 360 graphics. However, there is also the possibility of them being fake, afterall, how would Microsoft or Team Ninja/Tecmo allow something like this to leak out?
Couple points
1) Tecmo already denied those posts, as to what this means is anyone guess, but I am betting beta shots
2) Gears of War blows those graphics away, so I am skeptical as to what system that is (possibly original Xbox) or if it was early shots that got leaked.
3) MS just upped the Ram and CPU speed in the Xbox360 about 2 - 3 months back. Quite a few developers have not had a chance take advantage of these yet. But that still looks like it could be done on the Xbox.

Lots of info and screens for stuff gets leaked before it comes out its hard to stop.
Ah, so they already denied those pics eh? Thought so, they didn't look next-gen enough to me.
BTW, do you have a link or source which stated that they denied those pics?

Good find man, these were posted earlier and I thought the game was for Xbox because the graphics don't really look next-gen, it barely beats DOAU but the Xenon launch comment looks peculiar, hopefully these aren't Xbox 360 in game shots but it's a possibility, I'll have to wait till E3.
I have not seen DOA4 for Xbox360 myself, but if those are pics from it for Xbox360 I will be both shocked and highly disappointed in Tecmo.
I highly doubt those are from Xbox360 and recommend people wait for E3.
the shots look decent... xbox could prolly handle it right now but it would be a bit of a stretch... REMEMBER xbox upped the RAM from 256 to 512 so yummmm..

I hope to god theyr not Xbox 360 in game shots, it's good these shots got leaked though because I can get a surprise at E3 if theyr not real or stay dissappointed if they are real, I'd hate to get all hyped up for E3 then see these shots.
Even if they did end up being for the Xbox360, you will see significantly better looking graphics.
siren, so is there any link or source that states Tecmo disapproved those pics?
Quite frankly, I'm not that shocked by those graphics.
EA stated that Xbox 360's could probably contain characters with poly count up to 30K. Those characters look pretty close to what 30K of poly could do.
Of course, we have to take into account the memory upgrade, but that still won't improve the visuals all that much unless it was a bottleneck to begin with.
Oh yeah, an article on kikizo about DOA 4:

The graphics in Ghost Recon 3 and DOA4 look of similar quality you know, either those are Xbox 360 games or Xbox games.
Looking closer, I want to see those pictures in motion.
While the textures are fairly low quality in the bacground, I would like to see how the characters move and the clothing and hair reacts.
This may be a case of screenshots do not do the game justice.
Imagine if they have absolutely no clipping and all the characters move smooth as silk. Impacts are all calculated perfectly, and the clothing moves and looks like it is real.

If you go to Gaming-Age you find in their thread on this that Tecmo has already taken the pictures off the server and said that those pictures are not indicative of next generation graphics. It was most likely just a port of DOA with some added features and they were waiting for the final dev kit which they just got to begin making the graphics better. That is all the info I have gleaned from reading the forums. In other words those are not the graphics you will see in the next generation DOA game.

Here's the thread over at Gaming-Age...
It's supposed to be real, no announcement by any officials that its fake, all Tecmo said was that it was leaked and they don't know how it got out:

Hmmm... here's the thing... if they're not real why were they on Tecmo's OWN site. They were gleaned off their press release ftp in a DOA4 folder.
Personally, I think they're a 100% real, but not necessarily what the final product will look like. My guess mainly comes from seeing the way the bodies in the games are positioned... there's A LOT of need for the fine tuning... good example look at Kasumi's right foot in the jump kick... I've never seen a human foot bend that way. Lot of little details like that suggest it's early shots of the game.
I just saw Condemned on gametrailers.com and I have to say it looks pretty but at the cost of framerate. It can be the video encoding so I'll wait to see this in High-res. My first impression of Condemned is that its a pretty looking game but working on 30fps as shown on gametrailers.

To me the best demoinstration of the Xbox 360's graphics power is the clip of Gears of War on the MTV special

Yeah but does it scare you that M$ states that Gears of War is running at 80% of Xbox 360's full specs? :?
It better be running at 80% now so to even the jerky framerate the game has at the moment. Coz if its 100% then we might see a better frame rate. Seems as if UE3.0 is giving Xbox360 a hard time. So far its just pretty but slow. November will be nice to see this game in its final.

Who said it's running at 80%? Maybe it's running on older hardware, there's a world of difference between the alpha dual G5's and the dev kits, I'd expect XBox 360 launch games to be using a lot less of the Xbox 360's power.

We were told by Peter Moore that Gears of War is currently running at 80% of the visual bar that Epic believes it can achieve on 360Source (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/612/612066p1.html)
You have to remember that some games have been in development for the Xbox 360 for over 2 years, so it's no big surprise epic was able to tap out 80% of it's total power.
Remember though that this is 80% of the power using exisiting tools and techniques. Even month MS (and Sony for the PS brand) ship new development kits to the developers. These contain updated and new tools that allow developers to get even more power out of the system.
In MS's case they often contain algorithims and code that you can you to further improve performance, or obtain the same graphical effect at less hit to the CPU and/or GPU.

The same happens with the PS2 and Xbox, even when consoles are out new tools are sent around, that doesn't mean much really, they can squeeze a little extra out but thats it.
This is what I got back....what should I do?
Hi, Justin
Sorry for holding up, I was really hoping to clarify PS3 issue for 2DTV.
Alas, I can say only that XBox360 version is definite and PS3 version is
still under consideration. I want to be clear and straight on this. If you
still want an interview geared towards the game - I am ready to do so.
Please let me know if you would like to proceed and when can I expect your
questions if you do.
Cheers
Tim
If not an interview...maybe an article?

What sort of article would be able to write that's relevant if a PS3 version is currently not in the planning stages?
