View Full Version : XBOX 360 demo's are running on G5's
The nifty clips of video games supporting Microsoft's new Xbox 360 console are running on Apple machines, Microsoft confirmed on Friday.
"We purchased a number of Apple G5's because very specific hardware components of the G5 allow developers to emulate some of the technology behind future Xbox products and services," a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement. "This is an interim development tool that will be replaced with a more powerful and comprehensive solution later."
The current systems shown at product introductions are prototypes. Final systems are expected to come out in all three major regions--North America, Europe and Asia--by the end of the year.
The prices for the new consoles have yet to be announced, but executives have said they won't be released until after the E3 game conference in Los Angeles next week.
The Xbox factor
Some details have been released on the new console, such as its 20GB hard drive, DVD-ROM drive and 500MHz ATI graphics processor, but others will be announced during the conference. Executives have said that up to 40 titles for the Xbox 360 will be announced by the end of the year.
The new console from Microsoft is based on a similar IBM PowerPC architecture used in Apple computers--the Xbox 360 uses three 3.2GHz symmetrical cores, according to the company. Apple has been using PowerPC chips since 1994 and Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs has said the company is happy with IBM's PowerPC family of chips.
Microsoft recently switched processors from an Intel chip used in the first Xbox console to a custom Xbox processor based on Big Blue's Power technology in its new Xbox 360.
So I guess the demos shown are not an accurate depiction of what the 360 will offer. They should have out a work in progress stamp on all the demos
They didn't mention whether they were CGi, a lot of the movies we've seen have ended up being renders or CGi
Yea, I too believe Xbox360 is capable of a lot of good stuff. But they just went before time only to look like ahead of the pack which IMO was a bad move. Their games turned out mostly as CG's(those weren't UE3 stuff) and especially comparing with the mind blowing hype that generated before Xbox360 was unveiled. Who can forget that hype except for M$ fanboys who'll ofcourse change verdict when they see fit. Meh whatever.
I openly claim I don't hate M$ but the reaction of some fanboys really makes me laugh. Its just so funny how they start jumping at you just at the sound of their favorite console from a pro-sony like me.
Who cares! I'll say whatever I wanna say. So if there is anything that I'm waiting for most on the Xbox360 console, its the exclusive release of Epic's UE3.0 game called Gears of War. That game rocks if it can show the game at decent speeds. I'm dying to see its single player final build. If this game holds true to what the screenshots depict and throw the same visuals as screenshots 100% when in-game. I'll go n buy myself an Xbox360 at launch without a doubt.
So here is to you stupid fanboys who keep thinking I hate M$. I DON'T.
Now start salivating at these shots already. Its obvious that I got em from Gameinformer so thats to them.
This is the pic that they showed at ourcolony.net, Isn't it?
P.S : No Siren, these are not mag scans.
Is this what they call damage control?
Is there any proof those shots are from in-game, I hope they have playable games at E3 so we can suss out whether games will look like the one playable game we've seen(PD0) or like God of wars.
You know, I dunno... I think so... look at the head of the zombie thing... you can sorta see poly edges... but at the same time look at the hands of the zombies... temporal blurr?? If that's the case they're not real time... and unless this photo was taken with a camera (as opposed to a frame capture) we shouldn't see that... still they look in game... mmmm...
I'm going with in game.
They should put out more screenshots that look like that instead of the crap they've been spewing out lately man.
Dude I've seen UE3.0 GDC demos so many times I even forgot the count. They were mind blowing and kept me wondering if its even possible in next-gen but there gotta be some cards from ATI/Nvidia coming out soon that'll take care of it in 2006 I thought.
Here are some screencaps from the MTV video, they look almost similar to the above high-res screens. So I'm hoping that this was in-game footage and not CG.
That's good to know, Damnit, that you aren't anit-MS. But if that's the case then why did you say in another thread not too long ago (this week even) that you can't wait for Microsoft to fail (ie leave the console market) so that you can rub it in someone else's face here? Why would you want Microsoft to fail, that would leave just two console manufacturers and another assured dominated generation by Sony (Nintendo certainly won't be doing any dominating).
But everybody has their favorite console each generation, which is respectable, but in having your favorite console you should at least be open to acknowledging the merits of other consoles. I have no problems giving credit where credit's due. Last generation for me my favorite console was the Playstation (I had the PS during my formative teen years so it definitely has a place in my heart), this generation it's the Xbox (despite the fact that the PS still has my favorite franchise, FF). Microsoft won my heart this generation because the Xbox, to me, is what the PS2 should have been, and because the hype of the PS2 killed the chances of my favorite console maker of the 16 bit era and its next generation offering, Sega and its Dreamcast, which I purchased.
This upcoming generation I may find that another console other than the 360 is my favorite seeing as how I've shifted every generation. If so then let it be. I'll have no problems with it. But this being a Playstation branded forum I guess I should have, by now, become accustomed to the negativity I've encountered and hostility towards Microsoft in particular (Nintendo, to me, doesn't seem to get near as much hate as MS around here). I guess it's because Microsoft threatens the status quo. Anyway, enough of my ranting and raving. Maybe Microsoft's presence at E3 will turn some heads.
So if we say the PS2 won this generation we're anti-MS?
OK then, MS won this generation, PS2 didn't sell any consoles it should have got banned, everybody happy?
Fedos, Please, quote my message in full over here so I can read it too. I've been posting so much lately that I can't even think of where I may have said something like that because I really take care of what I'm writing at times but I'm still human.
What I can remeber is that there is a certain mod who is pro-M$ which kinda gave me a hard time just coz he was having a hard time somewhere else(that I can't prove, too late) but whatever the case was. I just got fumed up there. But did I say it out so bluntly that I want M$ to fail ?
That's why I want you to quote me please. Thanks. I'll appreciate if its only you who does that because the way you just made me look like seems every fanboy will wanna jump at the opportunity.
As for why am I a sony pro. Jeez, I already mentioned it somewhere in the PS3 forums. I had a blast with it, my family too. I have never seen my family getting together so often but just coz of this thing called PS1, PS2. Countless other things and I still respect nintendo which was my first ever game console and got me into gaming(in the first place!).
Unlike some of the M$ fanboys(including my best[est] friend). They all have this ego that they just wanna trounce Sony outta games. But they don't realize that the pioneers of adult gaming were sony(but they don't respect that anymore). Not calling you in the same category, but thats how I've seen most Xbox fanboys(who were infact PSOne owners once, sheesh). Need I say more?
:) Peace out
Ok here it is.:D
Seeing how content was Sony with itself being quiet and all. I think they have something uber supreme under wraps. They never felt the need to release a single screenshot or a thing to even counter M$' hype. Which could ofcourse mean two things, either bad or good.
I'd say good is more likely because they are the champs of last gen and this gen as well. They are just witnessing themselves another competitor who is desperate to strike back(ala Sega with DC) and rush blindly head down into a wall(ouch!). I can imagine Kutaragi-san laughing his behind off of what he saw yesterday of Xbox360. Oh man them Sony shmucks better have something to prove Xbox is another Sega to them. Jesus, I'd be so happy if that happens. Happy because I wanna see someones reaction then on this forum.
It was taken from the PS3 thread about Sony lanching the PS3 in 2005. Oh and Mak, I didn't say that because you say that Sony won this generation you're anti MS. It's evident that a lot of people on this forum are anti MS. A guy with the credibility of a Sakaguchi takes a big gamble to develop games for the 360 and when he shows the fruits of his labors most don't even bat an eye? Now if it was a PS3 game most would be giddy like little school girls. Say it ain't so!
I'd be the first to confess that I wasn't overly impressed with the graphic capabilities of some of the games of the 360. Heck, I've got a post in the DOA4 thread where I openly criticize MS because, to me, it didn't look up to snuff, even going so far as to say that it looked more akin to Xbox 1.5 than Xbox 2. But I'm glad that G5 thread was just posted because I want to see all consoles prosper. Most around here act like Sony can't do anything wrong, like they'll stay on top forever. That's exactly how it is over on Teamxbox, despite the fact that everyone knows that Sony sold significantly more hardware than MS. There's some pro Sony posters over there too, and as soon as they surface the Xbox fanboys jump on them like a pack of dogs. All I'm saying is be more receptive to just one game console manufacturer.
Sheesh, atleast you should admit I didn't say I want M$ to fail(or leave the market entirely) that bluntly! Since you're the one who claims I said that.
LOL , but thats when I was so burnt up of this jerk-like bossy attitude of someone towards me. Again you gotta admit that I did try taking care of the words and not speak em in an Xbox specific forum. I also read some guy calling out others nit-pickers. Hehe maybe he should look at you too. You just nit picked a teeny thing out of that paragraph and make me look like I might be a possible contender of anti-M$ category. Chill out man, I'm just a gamer. But I'll criticise whatever I'm provided after hyping it uber times and it turns out like fuck. Trust me you'll see me do it to even PS3 if they don't deliver whether you like it or not. The thing is you're too early to judge me on that since we haven't seen squat of PS3 stuff. Please judge me after that. Thanks
Umm...I don't understand where you're coming from but I'll try to justify where I stand. I don't think I was so much judging you as I was clarifying where you stand. If you took it that way I apologize. What you said was basically what I put in that first post. You said that you want Sony to prove that Microsoft is another Sega to them. What did Sony do to Sega? They stopped them from manufacturing consoles. If you thought I meant that you said (I know, it's confusing) you want Microsoft to be out of the console market entirely (ie not even making games for say PS4) then this post should clarify that. But I don't think there was anything wrong with my post.
I just pointed out that you claimed that if you're not anti MS then why in a previous post did you say you want to see MS fail? If you said what you said ONLY because you want to see what some moderator's response would be if it happens and not because of a genuine disdain for Microsoft then I apologize for calling you out like that.
Apology accepted my friend. It wasn't because of a genuine disdain for Microsoft but I just hated that jerk so much I can't explain in words at the time other than what I said . Does it mean I carry an eternal grudge against M$. Not at all. I live around Xbox console everyday man coz of lots of things. You already heard me once in the last post why, so you don't wanna hear more of this.
Those screens are all ingame and all realtime. Also those last three shots from in the game are actually taken from a video that was shown at the GDC a month or so back, and at first people in the audience thought it was a cg cut scene not realtime until the presenter took a controller and started moving the character around himself. That's what the Unreal Engine 3.0 is capable of, if developers are willing to spend the time and money it takes. In an interview they said that it took 6 weeks to do one character in the game, so that is a lot of work and a lot of money to put in the amount of detail you see. Most games probably won't be this good looking, at least not third party games. That goes for all three consoles.
I think alot of us are forgetting a few facts, #1 The videos we saw off the MTV event where being shown off a Tv themselves, so we are seeing a screen of a screen and most if not all people do not have MTV in High-Def so we are probably losing some of the Crispness (if thats even a word) of the characters and environments, at least thats what Im hoping was the case.
I think this week at E3 we will see some much higher quaility videos and start to see some real good things from M$.
I did read one quote the other day from a developer that said the jump in quality was going to bemore in line with NES to SNES from X1 to 360. Now if that is truley the case with 360 M$ has made mistake. I believe the PS3 will be a jump like from PS1 to PS2 3rd gen games immediately. Making that a much bigger WOW I gotta have that purchase.
Atari announced the European launch of Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight, scheduled for release in March 2007 on the PlayStation 3. Published by Namco Bandai Europe and distributed by Atari, the title is going to be part of the PS3 launch line-up.
Reawakening the bitter rivalries between the Federation and Zeon forces from the popular franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight places players in the cockpits of numerous legendary Mobile Suits and launches them into the heart of the battle as the two sides fight for domination of a futuristic planet earth in turmoil. Teamwork and brilliant leadership are crucial in finding enemy weaknesses and locating strategic enemy facilities on the battlefield. New commanders have access to a variety of Mobile Suits for their battalion and more suits are unlocked as players progress further through the game and complete objectives in the war effort.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight was one of the top selling Japanese launch titles for the PS3 so it’s great to us Europeans will also be getting the Gundam treatment when the PS3 launches in Europe on the 23rd of March 2007.
