I want to build my own pc...but i don't know where i can get the individual componets and basically what parts i would need to make my own pc, besides ram and proccesor chip.

Do you even know how to go about putting one together? If you don't, you should find a book first and read up on it.

Yeah. Best to have the basics down before you start tinkering with hundreds of dollars worth of hardware.

You'd need basically the following:
ATX Case
amd/intel processor
ram
video card
power supply unit
hard drive
cd-rom (i'd recommend at least cd-rw if not dvd-rw)
motherboard
floppy drive (old tech, but still useful)
However, you need to make sure all of these parts are compatiable and will not conflict with each other.
What I'd recommend is that you either contact a person who is familiar with computer building, or even find a company that will let you customize a computer and look at the customization and just buy the parts (that way you know the parts are compatiable).
I'd recommend www.cyberpowercomputer.com just for reference or even if you want to buy a computer for an amazing price. They seem very cheap compared to the likes of alienware and voodoo pc.
I know people who've learnt by watching/asking others and by downloading PDF versions of product manuals online, so you don't really need to buy a book. But it's really a lot better to get someone who knows to help you out because you could screw it up.
fooster, you forgot sound and LAN card. The built in sound cards are usually crap :?

You can also go with a BTX case, but they only work with BTX motherboards...just like ATX only works with ATX motherboards. You also have to find a compatible case to house all your hardware. The motherboard, CPU, and GPU all have to be compatible as well, like fooster said.
But it's really a lot better to get someone who knows to help you out because you could screw it up.
Yeah, definitely. It's not as complicated as super geeks make it out to be, though. Anyone can build a PC.

Best place to go to find information on computers is http://www.tomshardware.com/. Iy will give reviews of hardware and charts to see were there stand.

Ok thanks for the help/ sound very complicated...i am going to go learn about this stuff now...maybe i will actually be able to pull if off....

It's not as complicated as it sounds. You can always download some motherboard, etc. manuals online and see how it is.

Its not all that hard. For example.
If you buy an Intel 775 Processor, you better make sure you buy a Intel 755 Motherboard that supports the bus speed your using. Same with AMD, if your buying an AMD 939 CPU, you better make sure you motherboard supports AMD processors.
You cant really mix and match, you CANNOT do things like put a Intel chip in a AMD motherboard.
Make sure your RAM matches your motherboard. If your going AMD it means your'll be using PC3200 ram until M2 comes out in the summer.
With intel its a bit more complicated, as you can end up with boards that use DDR2 PC 4200 ram.
Just an example. But its not to complicated. Tiger Direct has GREAT kits to get you started.
