View Full Version : Good TV's For The PlayStation 3
Personally, as a mitsubishi DLP owner, i don't know where you're coming from on your assessment of DLPs and especially the mitsu. I have an older model 1080i and it looks awesome at 52 inches. If i were upgrading this tv today, i would likely go between the diamond series 57831 DLP and the Sony Bravia SXRD. it would be close. I have seen both side by side in a showroom and they are simply outstanding in HD. I overall like them better than comparitively sized LCDs (50 inch range) that apparently are more? 1080p native than the DLPs. It's late and i may just not be getting all that you are saying.
As for the size being bulky/ "CRT" size, yes they are big and weigh a bit more. but there are comparable sized sets to lcds. Samsung has a DLP set that is like 10 inches deep whereas most are on the 15-17 variety. any of these sizes still fit onto most "LCD or Plasma" media consoles. the do look a lot bigger though for the same size tv it seems. I guess the Sonys SXRD aren't DLP but still fit into the same projection tv category so i think of them the same.
bang for the buck, and overall picture, not sure DLPs/projection sets can be beat. that said, if you want to wall mount, weight is a big issue, or have someone sit at a hard angle to the size, LCD is your best bet in my opinion. i just bought a 40" samsung LCD for my upstairs main room and it is awesome. it cost 2K and for that same price i could have basically gotten top of the line DLP at 57". Wife said that was "too big" (wtf???? is that even possible??) for upstairs- width as well as depth, so i got the lcd instead.
think about it.
think about it.
And everyone should. It's through your eyes so the most important aspect of buying a TV is not only research, but actually experiance.
On that note, think about this. The TV market is too competitive. To make it you have to give something over the competitor or at least match it.
There is no magically good TV. Everything has it's good points and it's faults. And everyone will have perferences as to what is consider "good" to the eyes.
Everyone has a slightly different pet-peeve, one will say it's crap because of xxx, while another will say its yyy.
If people are not oppose to all the hassle, big chain stores etc, have a "test drive" option for HDTVs. It is not impossible for you to go think it over after a good week of testing.
just wondering anyone in nz have any good lcd tvs for under 2000 dollars? I've been searching around for some and http://www.sony.co.nz/bravia/product/s-series-bravia/klv32s200a.jsp from sony and http://www.samsung.com/nz/products/tv/lcdtv/la32r71w.asp?page=Specifications from samsung seems good. Anyone with any of tvs can you give me some of your opinions?

I've been saving money for a while and I have been looking for a good HDTV and I think I have found one and I would like to know if this is a good TV http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Mitsubishi-65-DLP-Projection-HDTV-WD-Y65/sem/rpsm/oid/156666/catOid/-12867/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
it's a little expensive but like I said I have been saving for a while
I love my Mitsu DLP, and I paid more than twice what they're asking for that one. But mine is the Diamond series and came with a bunch of things I never use. Lol.

I just got a Samsung TX-R7930WH Slimfit 30" Widescreen CRT HDTV w/Component, HDMI, and built-in HD tuner for $757 at BestBuy. Built-in audio eq is awesome, picture is great, puts all of my widescreen games to use as well as the 480p games I have.
It does 480i/480p/720p/1080i and even has coaxial/optical audio outs for if you have a nice surround system. I couldn't be happier....until SED tv's come out!
Holy CRAP that's freaking expensive.
I got all those features in my tv. + it is an LCD tv.. oh not to mention it's an LCD.. 800 buckaroos.
I love my TV got every single feature in the world for freaking cheap. 42 inch lcd on top of that. AWESOME TV

For you SXRD guys. I have a 60" SXRD and my PS3 will not let me switch it to 1080P. Are you guys having this problem? I use HDMI.

Plasma > LCD
(25 characters)
HDMI 1.3's extended-color gamut (xvYCC) and Deep Color have allowed for LCDs to achieve Plasma's strong points in visuals. On top of that LCDs have had 1080p displays out for a year now while Plasma is only first starting to ship 1080p units out. One of the reasons for this is because Plasma + 1080p = still too expensive to justify. Now with Plasmas directly competing with LCDs in the 1080p market for the first time, exclusive LCD manufactures are projected to drop their prices down to the best bang for your buck available later this year. Throw in Plasma's short lifespan and high chance for burn in and you have absolutely no good reason to buy into Plasma unless you're determined to do so beyond the point of reason. Plasma is a dying technology that should already be dead. The final nail in the coffin will be when Sony releases their OLED displays.
OK, I know I have posted a bunch before but I had to add my 2 cents again. KUKU makes a lot of good points and I agree with most of what is said. Good TV for price is DLP, and Samsung hands down has the best DLPs, they are also the easiest to fix when they break and parts are very easy to get as well. The lamps will more than likley last about a year, maybe more but more than likley less if its on a lot. They are about 200 bucks for most samsung models.
DLP in general IMO sucks. The color wheel and DMD are both crap, the former is being eliminated shortly so now my gripe is the fact the DMD is not a true 1920x1080. It "wobbles" up to that res, so you are not getting a native image. Any rear projo you get will have a "light engine" failure at some point. This is costly, so I advise the warranty. Mitsubishi seams to take forever to get parts for, and Toshiba goes though lamps like water. Sonys XBR line of LCOS sets have the least amount of problems. The lamps dont seem to go out as often as the others either. Light Engines again are an issue so get the warranty.
Pioneers 50" FHD1 is the only true 1080P plasma out right now, and is definatly the best. I wouldnt get any other plasmas.......unless Sony started doing them again. As for LCD, Sharp is very good as is Sony. I would take the Sony over the Sharp however if money permitted because they dont have as many problems. Sony I belive uses Samsung panels for the most part, but does a much better processing job than any Samsung. The Samsung LCDs have a pretty horrid refresh that has been somewhat fixed with a firmware update. Ther plasmas have a very bad drifting problem on ther power supplies that will start to cause blue, red, white, or green "spreckles" generaly in the center, but sometines at the edges of the image.
All in all I would wait on a rear-pro until the lamps are eliminated....maybe next year....and the color wheel for sure gone as it fails quite often. Plasma I would get a pioneer, there lower priced sets accept 1080P incoming but downres it. Most sets do this right now as they dont want to spend the money to didsplay 1080P native. LG is an example of this, they run the 1080P image through there de-interlacer first to bring it to 1080I then up-scale it back to 1080P. The PIoneer FHD1 will pass 1080P/24 native.
For LCD I would have to go with Sony as well, there processing cant be touched. Sharp does a good job, but there sets are "cheap" in comparison to the Sonys.
They are a little better then projectors, due to the enlosed air sealed space, but yes that is a big problem. <br />
<br />
And the cost of those parts are very very expensive(due to needing special facilities...

I am not much of a HDTV person, so I went with something I can buy now and look for a good kill in price/quality later.
I have an 37" Olevia LCD TV 720p, not bad so far, but only one HDMI port, but I can live with that.
I've been researching this topic for a few weeks now and read every article/thread I came across regarding topics similar to this one, "Best LCD for gaming/ps3." I recently almost purchased a samsung, but had a change of mind when I came across the deal circuit city is having. "No interest until 2009." I've become interested in the Sony 40" Bravia XBR LCD HDTV (KDL-40XBR2), especially after reading all the great 'user' reviews and how it's an amazing lcd, one that will last years and not become "out dated."
here is a link to the tv- http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-40-BRAVIA-XBR-LCD-HDTV-KDL-40XBR2/sem/rpsm/context/99000129/oid/157555/catOid/-12867/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
although I'm still puzzled over hdmi, especially after reading one of the threads found on this site.
03. Do I need to wait for HDMI 1.3 to utilize TrueHD or Uncompressed sound off of HD DVD or Blu-ray?
The answer is: NO, and MAYBE. Heres why... 1.3 only true benefit in the sound department over 1.2 is that it allows you to send TrueHD and Uncompressed sound "zipped" or Bitstream to the reciever to decode and use. Most devices on the market today and in the future (like the HD DVD players and the PS3/Blu-ray Players) decode the signal INSIDE the actual unit before sending it to the reciever! So this means that you do not need HDMI 1.3 and your getting the BEST sound available today and probably for many years to come. So the answer is NO because if you already have a 1.2 HDMI reciever and have next-gen disc player that decodes the signal its self then you dont need it at all. The answer is MAYBE because not everyone has HDMI recievers, and might not have a device that decodes the signals for them. It should also be noted that there are no 1.3 recievers out there right now, but soon they will exist. They will be considered "flag ship" units and cost more than usual.
so, this means with the Sony XBR2 LCD (1.2 hdmi) + ps3 (1.3hdmi, decoding the signal INSIDE, according to the above) that it's equivalent to having a tv that has 1.3 hdmi.
-So I won't be missing anything if I purchase the Sony XBR2 LCD over any of the other current LCD's out there.
the reason I ask is because this'll be a HUGE investment for me and something that I'm looking into owning for years to come, without having to worry about another tv coming out in the near future with SUPERB specs in comparison to this one. (like a ps1 compared to a ps2. Highly unlikely to happen but thought it was necessary I stat it, because it's something that has kept me from purchasing a brand new tv as of yet)
---I have been gaming for years but honestly never had to worry about graphics/hdtv. Mainly because high def gaming hasn't been out that long and the majority of the games I've played have been MMORPG's or FPS-first person shooters (customizing the graphics to be the worse to maintain the highest possible frames per second-fps for a computer) I currently own a 360 (looking to purchase ps3 before AC comes out, or if and when a price drop occurs) and I play on a buddy of mines Mitsubishi 55" 1080i tv, believe it's a DLP (graphics are okay, at best). In case anyone was going to ask after reading the above material.
Would appreciate any feedback and suggestions on my situation, if there is a better tv someone recommends, etc.
-Thanks!

If you paid 1600 € I hope it's very good...
So bad to have to pay this value for a good set
I recently bought a Toshiba 37C3030 for 590 UK Pounds. I love everything about it...I haven't found any problems at all.
I have XBOX, Wii and PS3 connected to it as well as SKY SD/HD and everything looks very cool. For some reason, even the Wii graphics look really cool compared with my old TV.
When I first connected the PS3 to the Toshiba, the PS3 did the usual thing of detecting that I had HDMI connected and did I want to configure the optimum display.
I said yes to that and it flicked me over to 1080p and stunned me straight away.
I threw in my free copy of Casino Royalle and couldn't believe it. I thought I had bought a budget TV but the picture is stunning and at 37inches looks as good as anything that I have seen in any of the stores whether 720p or 1080p.
The fact that it takes 1080p as an input seems to make a positive difference. When I get the time I will try to figure out a way to show the difference between sending 1080p to it compared with sending 720p
PM me if you have any questions about this TV. At 590 pounds it is a great purchase.
guess I posted to soon, after reading this article:
http://news.sel.sony.com/en/press_room/consumer/television/flat_panel_displays/lcd/release/30448.html
found out sony is releasing a KDL40-XBR4 ($3,000.00) and a KDL-40W300 ($2,700.00) next month. The main update being:
Both XBR model lines offer Sony’s Motionflow 120Hz high frame rate. The Motionflow technology creates 60 unique frames between each of the existing 60 frames, doubling the frames displayed per second in real-time, further improving images for fast action sports and other programming. Motionflow 120Hz high frame rate effectively eliminates motion artifacts (“judder”) while watching content filmed at 24 frames-per-second. This means with all of your existing DVDs or broadcast movies and prime-time TV series, you can enjoy all the detail even with moving objects.
which is the same price I'd be paying now for the XBR2. guess i'm glad I waited and thanks to tfrostydasnowman for providing the link above.

I am probably buying a Panasonic 50" plasma model: th-50pz750u. It is a bit pricy /4000$/ but you get great value and a big screen for your money.
After months of looking at a great number og lcd's and plasmas, I decided that plasma in my eyes shows a greater range of color, have better response time, have more "depth" in the picture, better contrast (even though lcd's nowadays are good)...
by the way, Samsung make crappy lcd's (especially the new 46" and bigger). The thing looks good in HD, but the analogue and dvd signals are not watchable at all. Very disappoiting. Another thing is their design which from far away looks nice, but as you get close to it you see that it is just cheap ass plastic. (no offense to you samsung owners, I still beleive that they have a good middle class tv's and very very good pc monitors, but the tv's are just overrated - in Europe anyway)

yea that samsung HP-T5084 is probably very nice...but we do not have them in Europe (that is Denmark)
I'll have to talk to my Samsung consultant to hear if we are gonna get them...The only full HD Samsung availible here is P96 series. Are you familiar with that one?
Anyway, it is hard to make a choice, especially when you use that kind of money, at least I have decided for a plasma..

Um, thats a 720p tv, not 1080p.
Ok I managed to make some money during my holidays (between college and university) and im going to need a new TV anyway when I move. The thing is, because I need a new TV I thought, hey why not just go for something that will complement my PS3 and that is a little more future proof than another SDTV. Problem is, im moving into a student accomodation/dorm so I will have very little space.
Is there any point in getting a HDTV that is only around 30 inches or less? And if so, would 1080p be complete overkill? Is 720p enough for that size, or is even that overkill and should scrap HDTV altogether?
Also, I heard that HDTVs have trouble with normal 480i resolution (regular broadcast etc) i.e. that it looks absolutely horrible. Im guessing this is because of the large size of HDTVs? Or would a small HDTV like which im thinking of getting have trouble with it as well?
So for me it just comes to two choices: small HDTV or regular SDTV. I just wont have the space for a big HDTV in any forseable future.
Final question: All in all, is it at all worth it to get a HDTV in my situation? Any thoughts and facts would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Samsung LCD 32" (LNT-3253H) has 8000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 8ms refresh rate and 720p/1080i capability.
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/e9/55/31a8228348a0ac8384831110.L.jpg (http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/e9/55/31a8228348a0ac8384831110.L.jpg)
So far I am totally satisfied with this TV. And it may be dynamic contrast ratio..but I'll tell ya, its bright as heck! And the darks are dark. I have no problem saying its 8000:1, cause it really seems like it.
But yeah, its a awesome TV, and since Samsung and Sony are one in the same (or something like that) that means I get a good match with my Sony products. *Hints my PS3 :D*
Got it a few months back at Best Buy for $1400 out the door...and I now see it at amazon for about $1000  Oh well, I guess I can say I got the TV when it was only a month old, and be proud of that.
Oh and its got something called 'game mode' which supposedly helps when playing games. With my own personal preference I don't use it, but I'm sure its pretty good for that. Since I guess this TV was built mainly for gaming, or at least they had gamers in mind when they made it.
The only thing I wish the TV was better at was refresh rate, since it does get motion blur. Not as bad as some LCD's, but its still noticeable..and why I would suggest people just stick with Plasmas until the refresh rates are greatly improved on LCDs (I think the best is still only about 4ms).
But it sure is a ascetically pleasing TV, probably the best I've seen in my own personal taste. It also matches the slick piano black plastic on my PS3 too. And I am lovin it, such beauty and vivid crystal clear pictures. Plus it has connections for everything, so I should be set for at least a few years.

I'll wait on the verdict of Samsung's 71 and 81 series along with Sony's XBR4 and XBR5 series. Sony's LCDs should be optimized for the PSP and PS3. I wish the LCD TVs have better refresh rates since LCD monitors (for computers) have refresh rates as low as 2ms.
just got my ps3 today and am looking for a nice 32" lcd hdtv for it, a buddy of mine recommended this as a nice set http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-and-plasma/sharp-lc-32d62u-32/4864-6482_7-32334380.html?ctype=msgid&messageSiteID=7&messageID=2406186&cval=2406186&tag=uolst

Since you're living in a dorm, I recommend getting a small HDTV. A 32" LCD TV would probably be too big for your dorm, but at least it is light enough to carry. Any smaller and you might have problems looking at the images in the game. 720p is fine anyway since most college students tend to play with their 360s. Not sure about regular TV broadcast, it should work well if the TV has the right tuners. People are making the switch to HDTV because later on games and most TV broadcasts will be in high definition. Sony is the first one to make gamers switch to hi-def instead of standard-definition. Plus, you will be the envy of your roommates when you play games in hi-def (1080p is complete overkill in a dorm setting).

Alright thanks a lot master! I looked into the Sony Bravia 26" KDL-26U2000. Its a pretty good price, and seems to have everything I need. BTW, ill be having my own room. I called it a dorm cause I think thats what americans call them, not sure if dorm = room with several people. Kinda strange after already having my own apartment for 2 years :?.
But I dont know what you mean about the 360. I dont have a 360, I only have a PS3 :p.
I still need to look into wether it displays regular broadcast well enough.

Dorm usually means one room with a few other people living in there.
I was referencing that other people living around you may have 360s. I used to live in a dorm once where most of the people have the Xbox 360s. Not sure whether your TV can display regular broadcast signals, but I heard the XBR 2 and XBR 3 LCDs can't display standard broadcast signals well.
I'd recommend anything with Samsung or Sony and HD on it.
Dont get a Samsung plasma, there LCds are good, but there plasmas hava a ton of issues.

Does anyone know if the latest Bravia XBR LCDs are optimized for the PS3? They aren't out yet till August 31. I heard Jack Trenton mentioned the Bravia TVs in Sony's press conference, but I thought they're for the PSP.

yes the newest XBR model should be fully HDMI 1.3 compatible.
I'm using the 52XBR3 right now and it's pretty awesome.

The XBR4s have a steep price tag. I was looking to get a 46" LCD, but I'll wait till next year to see if they'll have problems. The previous XBR2s and XBR3s were plagued with the infamous clouds and horrible SD signal conversion. Hope Sony fixes them before they're released around early September.

I haven't notice any clouds and horrible SD signal conversion issues. I think the early models of XBR2 is more prone to these problems but the XBR3s are not.

07-15-2007, 03:16
Guess that explains why online stores sell the XBR2s and XBR3s at lower than retail price. Let's hope that XBR4s and XBR5s are improved from the previous generations and have something that is optimized for PS3s.
Shadow780
07-15-2007, 03:22
The only drawback with the XBR3 model is that it's only HDMI 1.2a, but other than that it's really a fantastic hardware justifying the pricey tag for it.

I'm just a dirt poor college student trying to make some cash. My uncle in Pasedena, Ca has friends who work in Sony there. He said he would help me get a job there if I finish college. Right now I'm studying business trying to get my degree. It's difficult for me to make money in Georgia. I do know how to build PCs and troubleshoot hardware issues, but everybody I met to get a job tell me to buzz off saying they don't need competition. They're just jerks who don't give a rat's @$$ about someone who likes to build PCs for people without charging them insane rates. It's hard to get A+ certification when it says first of all you need at least 6 months of experience. Even my diploma in dental lab didn't do squat and people said the same thing to me. From my point of view, the employers are selfish jerks who care only about themselves and their businesses, treating employees as nothing more than extra labor. I'll wait till next year to get an XBR4 or XBR5 once the bugs are worked out (you know those people at AVS are experts at finding out about TVs).

This is a issue with A LOT of the HD sets out...Some look better then others, but for the most part, it's hit or miss depending on the channel.
Is the Sony Bravia KDL-26U2000 any good for SD broadcast viewing?
Sony Bravia X LCD series. All are 1080P, and some have a HD tuner in them.

I would just look for a good tv, not for a good tv for the ps3.
As long as it has hdmi, your set.
The game mode you talking about is a dummy setting on the tv as far as how the settings on the tv are, ie brightness contrast etc etc. Not something important to consider since you may not like how the games look with that setting. People see differntly.
1080p and 720p have the same aspect ratio, just that 1080p is a larger picture. So 1080p is better than 720p.

cool. thanks hgmaster
one more thing
i have a non-hdtv that i currently have my ps3 plugged into (and im using the yellow white red plug that came with it) but it has the red-blue-green ports for hd in the back (see link)
http://www.madcatz.com/Default.asp?Page=317&CategoryImg=PS3_Cables
would that make a difference since its not an hdtv?
1080p is FAR better than 720p.
What people are saying is that for games 720p is better, not better for having a 720p HDTV, but for the resolution of the actual game its self. If you have a halfway decent HDTV that is 1080p and you're playing 720p games on it you will have a game that looks like it should, like 720p on your 1080p screen.
But if you have a 1080p with 1080p games, and of course 1080p Blu-ray, then your in a better situation.

theres alot of variables in that question to rightfully answer it. what kind of tvs were you looking at?
The size of a DLP tv wont matter nearly as much as the size of a LCDtv.
I would go past 32" for LCD, the 52" ones i see look eww, makes me sick even to think about it.
A plasma tv holds its picture quality alot better as it gets bigger, hence its the best large screen FLAT panel tv but you can game on these just yet.
My advise is to find a nice DLP (with 3:2 pull down) you can barely afford and wait till next year and its a discontinued model, you'll save a bunch and still be happy with performance. Plus since your waiting you'll have more information as to whether or not the tv has lasting power.
But as 720p and 1080p they are the same but the 1080p is bigger and thus more information, actually alot more information. 720p gets enlarged to fill your tv were as 1080p fits your screen to boot, so hands down 1080p is better. 1080p will never travel down the "cable" pipeline, hence the need for a tv with 3:2 pull down.
3:2 pull down = take a 1080i picture and turn it into a TRUE 1080p

Well I'm trying to think of what tv is best for when I buy one. I'm looking for like the best 32 inch 1080p hdtv I can find. Right now I cant think what one of these tvs are better. LC-32D62U LC-32GP1U both Sharp tvs. The gp one have a game mode.. so is that one better? I dont know what really waht that does tho for games... So those 2 or one of the 32 inchs that sony haves. I want the best 32 inch I can get and it will only be used for my PS3 when I get one lol. Oh and the gp Sharp... it doesn't say it have the dark level thing or multi-pixels... but does it? Lol... it dont say on the USASharp site. But I know lol. So hopefully someone will help me lol. Oh and when I say... I want the best 32 inch tv... I mean I want the best 32 inch tv... lol. Like... not just from the 32 inch tvs I named but any brand of tv that is a 32 inch. I'm just looking for the best at that size and must be full 1080p with hdmi 1.3.

qUALITY: 1080P OR 1080i, HDMI,Doesn't have to be name brand and also anything else that would be important
We bought a 56" Sony LCD 1080P. Not only do games have great definition (Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls) but Blu Ray movies are fantastic. All blu ray movies are not created equal though. Read the reviews in a good home theater mag before laying out good money for a poorly transferred movie. Corpse Bride is fantastic as are both the Pirates of Carribian. I'd stay away from plasma TV's as they could burn an image into them. Maybe not the newer models but certainly older ones.

I'd be careful with unusual brands. Try looking for some online reviews and if you've got time look at avsforum.

Hey, I need some advise/input. Im somewhat knowledgeable about HDTV's but by no means all knowing. I have had my heart set on the Sony KDS60A2020. Unfortunatley now is not the best time for me to spend almost 3k dollers so after doing some more research I found this: Vizio VX37L. I realize its 720p but it seems the best bang for the buck and it got fairly good review both from sites (cnet) and customer reviews. I only have 500-700 dollars (which is basically my budget) so any other solutions/feedback is greatly appreciated...Thanks much

Its a good TV, I considered buying it earlier this year, but went for a Samsung LE40M7BDX which has been superb for me.

The Samsung looks much better to, only the slight weak sound lets it down, but a good surround system corrects that.

Negotiate with the best buy employees to save at least a couple hundred dollars.
Best Buy's hdtv section is like a car salesmen. The price is negotiable. Their computers have three numbers: lowest price, current price and list price. List price is the list price for the tv and current price is what best buy is selling it for. Lowest price is how low any employee can sell the tv for. Managers can sell for less.
Bring in an ad of the tv elsewhere for less money to assist your negotiating position. They might not be required to price match if it's an online store or far away but they will absolutely knock a couple hundred off the price if you are polite. (This goes double if you plan on buying the warranty.)
elale10,
Don't get it at BB. It's pretty expensive there. I'm sure you can find it for cheaper somewhere else.
PM me for details if you are really looking to shop.
My 37" Sharp Aquos (LC37D43U) is a beast.
I got it for $1000.
The downside: No 1080p (but it's only 37" so what the hey...), no 120 Hz (not even widely available yet anyways). Otherwise, no lag whatsoever (due to the 6 ms response rate), and amazing contrast, no banding.

That's some good advise there. I'm really looking around right now at some tv's and I think I'm going to use the strategy right there as if I'm buying a new car. Keep in mind that if they see that you're really interested in buying one, they'll do almost anything to nail that sale.

I can't comment on that specific model, but I've generally been very pleased with quite a few philips products, including their 42" 1080p ambilight LCD tv. The contrast ratio of 3200:1 is a little low though...if anything, I would go in and check out the TV before black friday and tinker around with it.
Their 1080p 42" set is beautiful...when i was comparing with equivalently priced sony/lg/sharp/samsung sets, the philips model trumped them hands down for me.

Whatever you do, get the Service plan!! I have had 3 of these with bad Panals, 2 with bad SSBs, and 2 with Bad PSUs. Best Buys service plans cover everything though. What is a better brand, Vizio, or Sony?
i went to this store that had 5 LCD tv's of different brands lined up. i guess they were pioneer, toshiba, panasonic, sony, samsung, and sharp. they were all playing the same video and it looked like sony had the best picture quality, followed by samsung.
of course it could just be a matter of adjusting some tv settings. a bit too close to call.

What is a better brand, Vizio, or Sony?
Was that a serious question?
Nvm, put simply: Vizio is to TV's what KIA's are to cars. They are usually cheaper but not always the best quality. Sony is a proven brand, Sony TV's would basically be a mercedes.
Basically Vizio's are usually much cheaper but your arent going to have nearly as good quality than a Sony.

Got my 1080p Sony Bravia KDL 32W4000/U today. and MY GOD!! The colours and clarity are intense as Hell!! Ive played on a 1080i philips plasma something since i got my Ps3 (day 1 owner) and My Sony Blows it outta the water and into tiny tiny morsals of dirt.
For £593, add 25 for next day delivery and BAM. ordered sunday, confirmed monday, got this morning.
The thing that has me in awe most are how much better the colours are on this Bravia. its mezmerising.

I'll second that... Bought my Sony 32V4000 a couple of months ago, can't fault the thing - it's fantastic!! Perfect size for my room, and I'm only about 4 foot away from it so it's easily big enough for gaming! The only thing that bugs me is the amount of dust it attracts. The finish is the same as the PS3 so it needs dusting just as frequently, other than that it's spot on! Cost me £384 from Amazon and I completed an offer for a free extended warranty, which takes it to 2011 I think... had the paperwork through for it the other day but it's come through as proper insurance cover rather than a warranty, which is SWEET!! :D

I highly recommend Sony Bravia's, I recently bought my second one, a KDL40V4000. Excellent picture and awesome sound...
is this basically the same as the KDL-42V4100 ? i was looking at the 42" they are on sale until the new year 1099$ canadian i am thinking about it looks like a good entry level 1080p HDTV. that has comparable quality to the higher end Sony tv's just a few less options.
should i go for this TV? anyone?

HD Tvs. That was an easy question.
It appears the ‘unreleased masterpiece’ GRIN was working on before it closed its doors last week was a Final Fantasy game, based on a former employee’s LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/tomislav-spajic/15/174/439) profile page. Swedish 3D artist, Tomislav Spajic, says he worked on an “unannounced Final Fantasy project” on his LinkedIn page.
You can check out some of his work on his personal page (http://www.clayman.se/), which includes images of a game named Fortress, which is likely the unreleased Final Fantasy game.
GRIN closed last week because of financial struggles.
