I have a Panasonic PT-AE900U projector running a 107 inch screen at 1080i HD. My sound system is a Yamaha 5960 home theater receiver running Orb audio speakers at 7.1 THX certified surround sound. And the most beastly part of the whole setup is my luanch 60 gig PS3 with many games and blu-rays oh ya and the HOME beta!

that is a pretty sweet setup, it seems really really big considering how close you are to the screen, yah about the 1080i comment, you cant really tell the difference between 1080p and 1080i unless you pick apart the screen

It's a 720p projector and for best image quality should be used at 720p. (Native resolution 1280x720)

How far are you sitting back? 107" for 720p Native resolution projection you'd want to sit back a minimum of 22' (about 14' for 1080p)

I do like the room, but I think you went too big on the screen.

The receiver is OK, and Satellite Speakers - well what can you say about satellite speakers besides the fact that they're small.

Again, I like the room.

Its a decent set up. Im not a fan of orb, but they arent bad. Also why the white ceiling? Spray the tiles black and it will look so much better.

You really have no idea what youre talking about. Please refrain from trying to sound educated about home theatre. Theres no general rule for how far you sit back. Its personal preference. I sit about 13' with a 106" screen and it could go bigger. Resolution will not affect how far back you sit.

Actually, you're incorrect. While you can watch a bigger screen at the same sitting distance, the quality that your eyes detects is determinable. The larger you blow it up for the same sitting distance the worse it will look period.

Here's a chart for you once you start crossing to the next resolution, the previous one is at a point where you start to notice the pixels. Especially on a LCD project like he's using.

If you're sitting 13' from 106 inch screen I hope you have a 1080p projector. A good friend of mine sits 14' from a 106 inch screen and has a 720p project, and sorry but I'd rather sit my 11.5' away from my 56" 720p DLP TV than 14' from his 106" screen.

It's the same principle that when you blow up an image on a screen it gets worse looking, or think back to 7th grade science when you used a magnifying glass to look at ink from witting.

It's at least 3" from the ceiling which is adequate for the receiver. That said, he should move the cable box from on top of it.

Awesome setup man! It really looks great though I would move that Comcast digital cable box off the receiver as you're trapping too much heat. Really, you don't or shouldn't have anything on top of the receiver as that's where the bulk of the vents are.

Jealousy aside, I have a question for you. What it the viewing angle like on those projectors? What's the contrast ratio like and the brightness factor. Actually, there are a lot of questions I have pertaining to projectors seeing as I've been considering them for my setup as of late as an alternative to plasma and LCD TVs.

All that, and only 1080i?

I was thinking the same thing to an extent but I realized that 1080p projectors are so much more expensive. Regardless, I'm considering a projector as well.

haha some people are never pleased

True videophiles/audiophiles never are pleased. They're always searching for something better.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm thinking it can't be good for the receiver or cable box to be honest!

You're probably the one who should stop trying to sound educated about home theater. Both THX and SMPTE have recommended viewing distances that depend on the size of the tv. And yes, while it is personal preference (you can sit 3 feet from your 106" screen for all I care) there IS a general rule on how far back to sit from a screen. And at a certain distance from the screen you'll start being able to resolve pixels which isn't a good thing.

my dad and us went on every projector site for 2 years researching the best projector in the $2000 dollar price range and we also went on many sites to see how far back you should sit and how big the screen should be at that distance.

well if you got an xbr6 that was bigger than 37 inches you would have gotten a 10bit panel and bravia 2 processor. i think the 37just has the bravia engine

Edit: forgot to mention that the setup looks great!!!

Viewing angle is going to be dependent on the screen and not the projector. It usually ranges from 60-90 (but can be as low as 50 or as high as 100 - the screens w/ 100 tend to be too white for straight on viewing.) Basically, it's not going to have a high viewing angle - but will allow for large displays. In a HT Room such as there's view angle is limited so there's no issue.

True videophiles/audiophiles never are pleased. They're always searching for something better.

Well there's video/audiophiles who know they want quality and are willing to spend money to maximize the quality. And then there are the - gone way to friggin far video/audiophiles that spend $10K's or even $100K's on getting the next thing. I fall in the first category. My speakers cost about $3K, receiver around $2K, TV around $3K (at the time of purchase.)

I do like the overall setup and the hard work and effort these boys put into this. I like that it's an enclosed HT Room. But I'm going to point out the pimples. But hey, when you're 16yrs old, you're suppose to have pimples.

I didn't realize at the time that this was a couple of 16yr olds that put this together. I think for them, and the limited budget they had, they did an excellent job. But I think they could actually improve there viewing experience by reducing the the image size they're outputing from the projector. This will also improve the brightness of the image - althrough it may be a mute point in a darkened room. Also feed it 720p, the native resolution of a project or TV is almost always the best source to feed it with. The only time it's not, is when the native source media is different and they equipment feeding the projector/TV does a less adequate job of converting the image (it is converting the 1080i into 720p and displaying it if you're feeding it 1080i.) In the case of projectors, most of them do a poor job of converting.

To most people especialy non-adults, bigger is better, but it's not always true. Just like most people think getting 1080p on that 32" LCD is a must when they're watching it from 8-10' away is a must, when in fact there eye's can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on that size of screen from that difference (yes you can in a store standing 4' away, but that's not where you're viewing it at home unless you're a 6 yr old child who can't stop watching transformers all day, now is it.)

Dude, you got PWNED.

You are so wrong! haha.

Resolution and screen size go hand in hand with seating distance. It makes ALL the difference depending on where you sit. There are gray areas, but too far or too close is a problem. There is a sweet spot for every size and resolution. The SMPTE and THX have different requirements for angles and seating distance, but there is a general rule of thumb for seating distances and resolutions.

You seriously could not be more wrong.

And to the OP: nice set up, but we have a topic for this kind of thing in the Blu-ray area.
