I roll about a bit, then when i really think i need sleep i just lie perfectly still and do not move at all, i then fall asleep in no time
I usually come downstairs and have a bowl of cereal or two and then see if I'm tired or not. If not, I'd read a book or browse the forums.
I just sleep like a baby these days.

I stay on these forums and watch youtube videos. ALOT of youtube videos. Sometimes I even eat. If you want to sleep just lay in your bed, close your eyes, and before you know it it'll be morning.

Turn on the TV and put on a movie while laying in bed. Works for me most of the time.
It's funny though because surely being on a computer would wake you up, not send you to sleep? I can understand reading a book [well, depends what book] but being on a computer and having the bright lights glaring at you would wake me up, not put me to sleep.

Go for a run, after a 10 minute run, the endorphin rush should be enough to make you drift off into a niiice sleep.
Either that or rub one out, if you dont fall asleep from that, I'm all outta advice.
I usually listen to music on my mp4 player, have a glass of water or maybe a lil snack and that helps me sleep. If that doesnt work I look out the window at the stars, then my mind drifts away and I'm ready for sleepings lol.

Welcome to the wonderful world of insomnia
I find what's really helping me lately is just my level of concentration before going to bed. I used to lay there for an hour or two not getting to sleep - and I'd finally get so frustrated with it, that it wouldn't happen either at all, or until I was just completely past it.
I just concentrate on my breathing when I can't fall asleep. Hard to describe, but stare at the back of your eyelids and focus on the black.. and just listen to the cycle of your breathing. Usually clears my mind and I get to sleep :)

They say that reading a book is the fastest way to get tired. Especially one with a lot of text. The more you stimulate your brain when you think you're tired, the easier it is to sleep. A nice, challenging book can do just the trick. There's other methods and I've been having trouble sleeping as well. I don't sleep until 3AM every night. Maybe it should work better for you -DooM-
You could always pump some MadVilliany. Speaking of which, I'll do the same.......
I whack out my PSP and come back on the forums. Doesn't help me to sleep but it's fun

I've tried on my PS3 but this site does not comply with the PS3 for some reason. It loads on my Laptop in like 1 or 2 seconds
Put on some music. It helps a hell of a lot with relieving the boredom. Unfortunately for me, Slipknot doesnt help me sleep :(
I listen to music when i can't sleep or get up and do something and then try and sleep again.
Some advice would be to have a ****, see if that helps, it's supposed to.
edit: Xelios, do you like Slipknot?

I used to like them a lot more before. Now I only listen to a few of their songs a lot, like Sulfur, Before I forget, Left Behind, I Am Hated, and some others. Why?

Well, there's nothing bad with it actually! It's a pretty good stress reliever and a good natural drug your body comes up with!
Good when you don't have a girlfriend or she's not around.

Glad I'm not the only one that relieves stress sometimes like this
Now if you all excuse me...

Dammit. I've yet to see them live, but I'd really like to. I've just been too lazy to see where they are performing and where tickets are being sold
Drink some warm milk and masturbate ferociously. Preferably in that order.
the only reason you are still awake is because you are still thinking about something. being this time of year with exams, christmas etc. people will go to bed thinking and their brain will not let them go to sleep, i find the best way is to spend some length of time during the day doing something mentally tiring.
i work as a shift worker so falling asleep at odd times is something i do on a regular basis. the best thing you can do is find a ruetine and stick with it.
I do what I'm about to do: Turn the pc off and close my eyes lol...
But Its usually due to the heat or cold, so I just take off/put on some Pjs lol.
If my head is thinking to much i just try to shut my mind off... Zen state.

If I can't sleep, and have tried to for like an hour and a half I just get up, and go about my business. However, I've also taken sleeping pills. Smoking weed would help too, although not the most practical solution.
You should make sure the lights are off too. When the lights go out, melatonin is released in your brain, which encourages you to fall asleep. A products of your Endogenous Pacemaker- biological clock, coinciding with with the Exogenous Zeitgeber- the sun. However, I guess if you shaft your biological clock by working against it and going to bed and getting up late, your circadian rhythm will be out of whack with regard to the Exogenous Zeitgeber. Yeahhhh, Psychology stuck :D
Eventually you will get tired, if you stay awake long enough. Try watching a film, in darkness. Films share a likeness to dreams, if viewed in darkness. They require you to be still, focusing only on what you are seeing and you drift in and out of consciousness when watching TV.
If you want to end up going to sleep at a normal time though, go to bed late, get up early, work through the sleep depravity until you reach normal time, then go to sleep and wake up at a normal time. You should be fine then.

I turn on my iPod and play a song or two that are good to listen to before bed and I just close my eyes and attempt to sleep until I eventually do.
listen to slow paced music, watch some TV informericals (almost always work) sometimes i come back onto the interwebs and tool around for a bit. spank it, or i stalk someone for about an hour may be creepy but it's rather tiring
I fall asleep so dam fast its unreal, i juss start thinkin of like a story and run with it then im ouuuuuuut.
another thing you could try is being more active during the day. become really tierd then sleep like a freakin rock
I love how everyone has come to one obvious answer in this thread
obvious answer? you mean spankin it? cause that's a good way to fall asleep, that and infomericals

why does that seems a little backwards? thought caffiene made you hyper, and kept you awake. maybe the crash after the rush is what gets ya

I don't think caffeine is supposed to work like that...lol
lol I'm in nursing school and I talked to my teacher about it.
Her rationale is that certain chemicals, if you're sensitive enough to it, like in a hyper sense, they end up doing the opposite for whatever reason.
Mine's caffeine apparently >.>
I don't even get any sort of rush (never had any caffeine rush or sugar rush in my life for that matter). Just a glass and 5 mins later I'm drowsy.
It's weird. lol I know.

When I wake up in the middle of the night it's usually pointless for me to try and go back to sleep. I just can't. So I usually play video games. Today I woke up at 4 am and played Burnout Paradise for a couple of hours.

Im in the same boat! I was wonderin' if someone else did this cause I was starting to wonder if I was becoming a alcoholic!:snicker. I just drink about 4-6 16oz bud lights and stay watching TV and BOOM I start to doze off pretty quick. Once I have a buzz I sleep like a rock.

My best trick I only use when I have to go to sleep and cant for some reason
NYQUIL
half a bottle should do the trick.
Read a book. A boring book.
That works everytime. I take a while to go to sleep and just lay still thinking about life :p

I have trouble sleeping especially during holidays, my body's bio clock just get a total overhaul.
Here are the things I do when I cant sleep. If I've been laying on the bed for so long and still cant fall asleep, I'll get out and go on the internet, play a game, write something or read. The I'll go back then to bed, and hopefully sleep comes.
If not, go for a night jog. lols

I usually get up and get a drink of water. Sometimes I might make a couple turkey or whatever sandwiches with Doritos in the sandwiches, and watch neglected movies that are on tv at the time. I then think about how tired I am going to be when I actually need to be up.

See I do the opposite. I have to clear my mind completely if I am in need of sleep. Thinking of nothing. If that fails, then I put on a podcast with some headphones and just listen to voices, that sends me to sleep.
If you are dehydrated, recently digesting food/ sleeping on an empty stomach, or are in an unusual sleep pattern, they all make it more difficult to go to sleep.

i am similar to you....
when i cannot sleep i forget everything and think about dreamy thoughts. sometimes i listen to music and then when i finish everything is really quite so that sends me to sleep.
during holidays i get all out of sync and my sleep pattern gets weird. i go to sleep at like 2 and sleep untill 11 when i look at the alarm clock when i wake up its like:shock:.
I try to take a nap when I find myself unable to fall asleep. it relazes me enough so that I can sleep.

Listen to the Wheel of Time Series on audiobooks. I've read them at least three times, so I just listen to them in order and it lulls me to sleep. Just pick up wherever I remember letting off at the next night.
