View Full Version : Do you think Trophies are a good idea for Home?
Right now, Home is somewhat pointless. Sure it's a great social networking tool, but most PS3 gamers don't care about that. Does anybody think sticking trophies into Home (the same amount that gets put into retail games) would boost it's popularity?
I do. Many gamers are trophy-obsessed and knowing there was a shiny platinum waiting in home would definitely get them to log on. "Forcing" them to do things like play 4-player games of bowling or win x number of games in pool would almost trick people into interacting with each other instead of just wandering around bugging people because they are bored. Hell, Linger in Shadows and that Japanese news-cat game are popular just because it has free or cheap trophies, even though both of these "games" are boring as hell.
Plus, having trophies in home could help connect people those who play the same games as them.
For example:
Person 1: Wooo I just got the "Get a turkey in Bowling" trophy!
Person 2: Nice. Wanna help me get the, "play X games of chess trophy"?
Person 1: Nah, I'm going to go play LBP. Trying to get 100% complete.
Person 2: i LOVE LBP!
Person 1: Wanna come? Who else wants to play LBP?
*opens up a game-launch to LBP*
...of course this would require actually being able to have Home-to-Game launches, but when that feature does come out, i could see the above scenario happening.
What does everybody else think?

I wouldn't put trophies to Home. But I would reward people with a said number of trophies with free Home goodies. F.i. level 1 gets a free shirt for his char, level 2 gets a free chair, level 3 a bike, level 8 a weekend house, etc.
I would LOVE to see a trophy room. Just an extension of your apartment, you walk in, select a game to view the trophies for, then it brings them up in a virtual room on shelves in 3rd and all, with the name on a little plaque.

While that would be possibly the most awesome thing ever, that would require making 3D models of EVERY trophy. Most dev's won't take the time to do that. :?

Sorry, I just really don't think it will work, and I highly doubt Sony will put trophies in.

I had to say it is a good idea but Sony probably won't implement them. To qualify that, I think it is only a good idea if they can be exchanged for other item. Sort of like a cash system. Otherwise what would be the point? And what you have to do to get a trophy? Maybe a gold for doing the "running man" the longest non-stop. Yeah that is the one I would shoot for getting.

If they added trophies i might actually go on HOME. Bit pointless HOME is because all you do is play mini games then have to leave HOME to play different games. XMBs fine for me until they implement something good.

umm....i think trophies in home would be kinda lame, bein able to unlock things is better IMO
I say it's a bad idea and they're not going to do it.
First of all, it's an application, not a game so trophies wouldn't really suit it. Sure, it might be good to get a trophy for getting a good score in bowling but ultimately, HOME is for socialising. The idea is people go on there to meet up with friends and then have a chat and be like, 'do you want a game of bowling?' It's just socialising, the idea of it isn't to go on to play bowling to see how good you can get at it, even though people do this, nothing wrong with that but just saying that people will more likely play bowling with friends for a laugh.
Plus, i'm probably a little biased because i'm not fussed about trophies because i'm not really a trophy ***** and go for trophies.

They will do it i think it's a great idea. Trophy's can be given for all the mini games, hosting events, owning a club, joining a club, hosting game's, partaking in special events, and winning special events.

Well Linger in Shadows and that Japanese news-cat game aren't really games either, but they have trophies. In fact, that Japanese cat-game is incredibly similar to Home, since it has a personal space that you can decorate which other people can visit.

I think it would definitely be an incentive to get people involved more....will it happen....maybe when it gets out of beta

This is what I'm hoping for eventually too 8)
A few display cabinets or something, you can see your Trophies in 3D or something like that, have the Platinums up on the wall etc.. Would be really cool :D

I think Sony will eventually implement it in Home one way or another.

I think Home trophies will happen (japan mainichi issyo got trophies). I think its a good and logical idea too.
Some for playing X games of bowling, chess, pool etc. Some for winning so many of each of those games. Getting a certain score on saucer pop. Theres alot of options. I just hope they arent too easy or too hard. 150 for saucer pop would be a good bronze, and for playing (completeing) X amuont of games of the ones named it should be at least 25 for a bronze.
other than your bowling and chess trophy what else would there be.
Keep and mind that what we have now is not Home. This is the Home BETA. Other regions have different spaces, different games (golf, darts), and there will eventually be a airplane racing game. And besides bowling and chess there are each of the indivial arcade games and the uncharted one, pool, and the UFO game over the pond. Right now trophies would be kinda pointless because there isn't that much to do, but once all the features get added in I hope they get added as well.
