Note: AND YET AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME I AM NOT BEGGING!
I think there should be more mod's at least 2 or 3 because with the expansion of 2000+ member after E3 we are seening alot of un-nessesary posts and topics, (like the "do not look in this" SPAM topic) why am i saying this? because when i read though posts i want infomation and not anything else.
I agree with him the mods can't keep up with the posts anymore there should be a few smart unbiased people apointed that are alot on the forums and don't butcher the english language. However I think 3-4 would be more apropriate!
We have two Administrators, and four Moderators. However I do agree. We will be looking out for some new Mods soon I feel.

Yeah, I know what you mean, we do need some more moderators. I mean look at the PS3 Discussion forum, go down the list and I counted 16 locks just on the first page.

I need something good to reply to first hehe. It's possible to write a little add on to the forum upon first login or first post it takes you to a rules page first where you hit I agree then it will log you in or take you to the post page.

More mods can work, but it can also work against you too, a forum I administer, we have constantly had a problem with certian things & trialed increasing the Mod's the problem was we had so many Mod's, nobody could never come to a consens about things or "stuff" would happen & nobody could account for it, because of this we reduced the Mods and things became easier for us.
In the end, I had to develop a moderation guide that all mod's had to follow and any mod that breaks those rules were de-modded, it works fairly well.
Having seperate moderators moderate seperate catageory's also works this can also make you have 'half mods' who only got power in a certain category and global mods who have power in all the category's.
Also I don't think good posts make a mod I think a mod should just be overall smart and know how to work with phpbb + be unbiased.
Maybe have a MOD for each section of the forums...split the roles of power?
We would rather have Moderators that can handle themselves in every forum. We are not even remotely the size of a forum like IGN or Gamespot. As such we are not currently in the need of moderators that only work certain forums.

By being able to modarate all forum section its an advantage. When one is not there the otehr one can fix it. They kind of can rotate.

Well there is a thing called "split" were as if a Mod clicks it they can remove it from the post and send it to like a garbage forum were regular members can't see. Thats what we used to do on the RuneHQ forums.

I agree, I would not mind being moderator as I used to be admin on my own forum, but that was ages ago. So I do have experience but i don't really care who becomes mod. Whoever does it, it's gud as site being more controlled then

Just incase that happens. We'll have another confirmation a few days after to make sure they weren't on anything.

how is progress going actually on choosing the new mods?
Progress is ongoing. If we see someone we think would make a good addition to the mods, we recommend them. The Admins then consider the recommendation and say yea or nay.
I will note that no one has been recommended since Epsilzon-Zero.
I understand you can't rush this but we really need some more perhaps a few extra mods untill definite ones are found?
the problem is that mods are given a lot of power and a lot of trust. We can't just take anyone and make them a moderator.

Just to clear things up, we did NOT ban him becuase he preferred the Xbox 360 to the PS3 (infact, we need people who do to keep the conversation fresh); we deleted him because he constantly posted utter garbage, and consistently broke the forum rules.

Hmm well to put this back on topic I say we definatly need more mods and soon. I know I will never make Mods unless I start becoming more knowledgeable in electronics and correct my grammar but at least I can make suggestions as to who should be mods
1. The one. we may not see him around much anymore but he always follows the rules he has a lot of tech knowledge and I think he would be a good contribution
2. Gaming ultima. I think he has been a member who you have been over looking for sometime he has been here since the start very tech knowledgeable not so great grammar but he has what is most important
3. PSgamer. Weather or not he works for Sony or not I think he is a good poster he seems to have his tech knowledge and his grammar is pretty good.
4. True poet. he has pretty decent tech knowledge and follows the rules. only difficulty with him is that I don't see him on very much

Thanks for the nomination, but I don't really know If I would want to mod here...I already have enough stuff on my hands. Though if they desperately need me, then I might think about it.
And we really need more mods! I know they are given alot of responsability but I'm sure there are at least a few guys that should be able to handle that as you want them to. Perhaps a mod on trial to see how he does it or a temporary 1 or 2 that help restore the forum quality to what it was.
2 Users are currently under consideration. If the final AOK is given, they should recieve their invitations withing a couple of days.
Do not ask which users, as we will not say
1) In case they choose to refuse

Yeh moding is exra work, but for a forum like this, you know your contibuting. any ways, its not about how long youve been on, or how many posts. But its about the quality of posting that gets you in there.
I also agree there might be more moderators, and they should be elected nor only by their knowloedge, but mainly for their behaviour, common sense, perseverance and maturity.

For me, the most important things are spelling/grammar, maturity, making useful and thoughtful posts, and dedication. Mods are chosen based on their consistent fufilment of the above criteria.
I don't think it has to do with amount of time here or else GU would of been moderator long ago considering he is the oldest member who still comes on I think I am one of the oldest don't know how far I am up that ladder though

Ok I guess then that is good, also lol @ bloodywar. Maybe you are in the frame of the Forum Staff to become Mod soon, who knows.
Maybe if I started to correct my grammar and learn more about technolodgy. I don't think I have the qualities to mod anyways besides I don't want to be the one who takes all the crap like mods do, so at moment I am happy being a veteran member who has been around since the 15 of june 2004 :D

sry to go back to the topic at hand but, i think we really do need a mod but mod is a pretty big role,e specially on this forum, so instead of more mods, mebbe we can have like "member relation mediators"(only with a better name(went on a thesarus to find another word for mod, LOL))
these people can patrol the forums and present cases to mods about disipline. also mebbe some of the existing mods can be used exclusivly for disipline becuase its such a big problem.
be a mod is a responsiblility and a fairly high position so its hard to pick one, thats why these sub-levels of mods might work better.
The admins are working on ways of giving the current mods more useful tools to help them handle the job of disiplining users.
With just a couple more mods I think we could handle the site sufficently until at least the start of 2006, though time will tell.
That is why there are many new members because PS3 was just unveiled. Having at least one more Mod would be a good idea. Before you guys choose one, really think about how trustworthy that person is and that person should be very very familiar with this forum along with many of this forum's members. Thats why a member who has been here for a long time is still a better choice than a member that just joined like that "Ice Dude" guy (No offense) and myself. But obviously the people who run this forum is very smart and so you guys don't need an explanation of "How to choose the right MoD." haha.
One thing I have to mention about grammar. I hope you guys aren't too strict with that because English is one of the hardest language to learn. I'm in college and still creating many mechanical/grammatical errors. :lol:

In the UK we have the police, and they have community support officers. yes they wear uniform, but i think mods and admins, and maybe good members should urge people to report bad members, who are breaking the rules.
Good idea unless everytime somebody double posts they go say it that would flood the mods. But It could be to tell about people like 360theturnaround but the mods notice them as well so bassicly this idea won't work.

That's the whole point of a mod. But you would have to PM them, and the Admins are working on it. But yeah, all you need is one mod on at a time. And since Siren is on most of the time, (somehow, probably has a night shift.) And finally PBM is on more. So these forums have been under controll even more. Not much as there was. But still, some stuff have gone unnoticed. Like the Masterkillchief and his double to triple posting.
I just wanted to add that I noticed that quite a number of posters here will uselessly reply to an ungodly amount of posts where they state a sentence that is useless, irrelevant, or just a reiteration of a previously stated point, especially after E3. I believe that this should be a point for consideration when selecting a new moderator.
I'm not at all concerned with your ability to appoint decent moderators here though, seeing as every moderator on this forum is very much up to the task of handling their responsibilities. Great job, you guys.

The other mod hasn't responded yet, no.
At this point the recommendation has been moved forward to just instate the one future mod that accepted. Hopefully we can make an annoucement later tonight

Well, I'm actually online quite a lot, but I seldom post. I'm not one to speak when I have nothing to say, so maybe that's why it seems I'm a bit inactive?
In the future I think I'll be a bit more involved in the debates, but that has less to do with me becoming a moderator than the fact that I'm graduating in less than 10 days.

I think we should have more mods because at the moment there is about a post every minute making threads longer and more interesting but the majority is either edging off the topic or not helpful what so ever. So it is now really hard to look through a thread and find sumthing useful.
Im not saying that the growth of a forum is bad but its a littleconfusing once you are used to a certain standard of post and whena forum expands that quality usually gets lost.
There for is agree we need more moderaters but we need them spread across time zones, making the forum being watched practically 24/7. Making it harder for non specific posts to creep in and making it easier for the mods that are here now to not spread their attention even thinner.
Oh and what happened to blake? Ive seen him on the mods list but hes never online or posted that often?

when it come's to mods and you need someone that is going to do a good job for free. I think PS4life would make a good mod and we can't forget that being a mod is hardwork sometime. Siren and PBM are doing a great job as fair as I see. It's hard to find good Mod on small forums like these?
Blake was for a long long time the only mod the forum had, now he is busy with his personal life and can't post as much. As for the next mod you elected the main two guys I thought should of been mod's so I am happy. True Poet decided to resign from being a moderator for the time being. He has personal issue that need more attention for now.
When he decides to return to the forums, I am sure we will be more than happy to welcome him back into our ranks. During his time as a Mod, he did a wonderful job and was very respected in the community.

You've been around for a long time to be just asking that now! Anyways, I've noticed that most people with 300+ posts have good posts, and they are worth reading. You do a great job. The problem is with new people(which there are TON of) that don't know the rules, and flood the forums with useless stuff. I don't think there is a single person that has been here for a month, that posts badly.

I think its kind of settled down now after all the shows, conferences and announcements and everything. Whoever wants to continue posting on the forums has continually done so in the last month or two.
The rest have posted and gone which is a kind or relief because if everyone stayed posting like that with that many people i think you would be able to see a topic with less than 10 pages of mindless mumbo jumbo.
Many thanks goes to the moderators for keeping everything as a higher standard as possible at that time, i think we all greatly appreciated it.

My time would have been perfect I was on the forum for about 14 hours a day during the vacation and week-ends and know phpbb hehe, but it could not be :p. Anyway garbage gets deleted abit later then. My advice don't post in the garbage threads completly ignore them and wait till they are deleted.
As for SMC being pointless at the time I used it alot to inform those members of the rules using the pm system in phpbb. :)

Im in Eastern Time (GMT -5:00hrs) And for my hours I think I would be good for watching the forums, at least for the summer. I'm up till 4am nightly, sometimes even awake till sunrise! Although this sleep in the day, tpye in the night schedule won't be working for me once September rolls around, since I'll have to wake up at 7am each day for school. Ah well, time for an interesting fact: Did you know that there are 6 time zones across Canada? :shock:

Not sure if I would be, I know the basic work that mods do, but I'm not familiar with editing or deleting posts, but I'm assuming that it's some feature that is allowed to you once the restrictions from the administrator is removed. Plus I don't think I have enough experience to be considered for a position as a mod, I've only got 350-something posts, and every mod I've seen here has much more experience on this site than I do.

Right now, unless someone is just out of the world spectacular, I am betting that all mods will go through a spurt in the SMC before becoming a mod.
SMC members can recommend other SMC members, but generally mods and SMC members are chosen through discussion in a private mod/admin only forum.

I feel it's that time again to add 1 or 2 more mods. The spamming, and clone threads have gotten a little worse in the PS3 Discussion/ Xbox360 chat. If and this is any indicator, it will just get worse in these next few months as more official information is released. Of course, the administrators are probably already thinking about this, but I thought I'd put the thought out there for discussion again.

It's just stupid stuff like, the 5 word minimum. I see that rule getting broken constantly now. Also there are a lot of "i agree" posts going on, with quotes around a large amount of text to boost skill points.
The thing is, who would make a good moderator? I think maybe 1 or 2 of the SMCs should get nominated. One or two more members who've been respectful, show love to the forums, and have been here a decent time should get the SMC promotion.
Also,
I think the admins should find a darn good post to declare PotM because we haven't had a PotM for 6 months now...And to me, that's a very prestigious award...Maybe we should call it the "Post of every six months" (PoESM) award. Kind of sounds like possum...

Personally, i'd go with udontneed2know or Lefein. Thats just me, even though i have no say in the matter.
Keep the discussion related to the title. Don't try mentioning your favorites , or you'll be damaging any chance they might even have(or not have) at the mod chair. So please be careful , try to keep discussing WHY you need more mods, Instead of who should be a mod.
Try reading some threads in the rules & announcement pages to understand things related to the subject.

I feel that there should be some new SMC member by now. It's ben a long time and I think we have got some great new members to this Forums. I not going to say who should be but I feel that some people should be on your list.
People that should make the SMC is people that hardly or never break the rule since they ben here and post good post. I'm sure there ben alot of "ME TOO" going around but I don't think that is a real problem here. I just think it's about time for you guys to add more SMC members.
As far as Mods go. you guys should try to get people who are on everday or close to it. people that visit the Forums alot. I know it's going to be hard to do that but I think you guys got lot's of SMC you can make Mods now.

We need more mods simply because the rules are being broken. I mean sometimes it just gets to the point where flaming, under 5 words, and skillpoint farming aren't being tended to.
I'm not blaming mods i'm just saying they can't be everywhere at once, even if they try.
I have nominated a few members to be SMC we will see what the other SMC members think of my nominations and will make a few of there own along with the mods. As for someone being chosen as mod that is entirly up to the admins and mods. By the way Rebon post's here more then you think. He mainly post's in the SMC disscusions and double checks on what we and the mods are doing. Just remember there are more threads here then meets the eye and Morph and Rebon probably post alot more in the mod forums then the SMC forums, plus they have 3 sites each to run and a personal life.

I don't think you can be nominated for a mod if you aren't an SMC member first, correct? you can be mod without being SMC you just have to show SMC and the mods that you belong as a mod and you might skip the SMC process. Of course I don't know how the other SMC members would take it, for me it would depend on who was Elected. I would much rather see a SMC member moderated then a normal member and see that exceptional member become SMC, but in the end the SMC's opinions on who should be modded means squat and the people who's opinions really matter are the admins and mods.

Grammar is one of them. More critical to mods then SMC, As you can tell by my grammar. What got me SMC in my opinion? Just being here a really long time and not leaving. I guess the mods and admins felt they owed it to me to give me some sort of promotion. Biases are a really big one we would not elect someone if he/she is way to bias.
The only exception to that is Liefen(don't take offense lifien I am not meaning any) who became a pro-dominant PS3 fan after he was elected and he stayed because he still does his job well. Post count I don't think matters to much, more the quality of post's. What the SMC members do is create a thread suggestion what users we think are SMC material and then the other members come in and leave there comments and nominations and eventually we all agree on certain members.
The only problem is last time I nominated members no one left any opinions or nominations. Very few of the SMC are still active, you might see them browsing the forums but very few of them actually report broken rules. Probably because some of the SMC members become lazy. Even I did for a while and for a long time the only SMC member who was reporting was Adam who then became a MOD which spured me into starting to report again and well the rest is history.

I have to agree, more mods never hurt a forum. During times such as console launches forums need all of the help they can get. Look at the Hall of Shame as an example, the number of topics put in there on a regular basis has risen by a great amount. If not more mods, at least elect more regular users to the Senior Members Counsel so more rule violations can be reported to the mods.

If only I were to select an SMC/MOD? It would have to be someone who hasn't responded in troll threads, at all(aside from other requirements for SMC/Mod). Lately we've had a lot of trolls making new threads and almost 10x the number of respondents in each contributing, just as much as trolls, helping spam stay alive!
I'd definitely not want someone at SMC chair who breaks the most obvious rule on the board. Make of it what you will. But this is my opinion and I strongly believe it matters.

It is the official forum for 2K Sports. 2K Sports are the developers of the NBA 2K series, NHL 2K series, and the MLB 2K series.
In other words, the root of all evil. It's completely feasible that people who play games as bad as those have the mentality of a three year old and I'd expect the forums to harbour people like that. I just cannot understand why they have a vendetta against this community...
hey mod can I make a suggestion.I think Aquaox would really make a good mod.When I was a new member,I actually kinda flamed him a few times but the man kept a postive atitude.He is also unbiase and makes good posting so im suggesting that you at least think about this.
Aquanox is incredibly biased and would make a horrible mod :lol:.

for crying out loud. we just got some new SMC members. but as far as mods go we have to see. but I think we will get some new mods soon. but My guess would only be 1.

yea thats what im guessing too. just one now and then mabe later when ces and launch of ps3 come if its needed they will add more. but if any one is going to be added its smc members so you would need to choose from there.

As of right now I think the Mods are doing a excellent job. I've never seen a bad post left open for more than ten minutes.(Including some of mine's :lol: )
I agree that they should add mods or Smc members around the time of the Ces because that's when loads of new members will join.
Okay, we definitely need more mods or SMCs. As of right now there are no mods or SMCs on and an insulting topic towards a moderator has been open in the 360 section for several hours. Unless something is done topics like this will be impossible to stop.

I'm seeing a ton of locked topics on the PS3 discission page. I have seen 7 locked topics in a row and some topics got locked for the reason being "pointless". It's Christmas time so that's why there aren't very many mods around cap_826.

I have a feeling that the lack of response in those threads was because it was Christmas and most of the Forum Staff were probably spending time with there families.
Okay, I guess I was over reacting, tis the season to be with family and friends.
i think we need someone online right now i havent seen a mod on for a couple hours and there are 6 new pointless threads by the same person in ps3 section and also a certain someone is posting a huge Picture that doesnt even show up but takes up a huge amount of space (i hope he has been banned but i wanna know if his posts will be deleted)

Those posted have been reported, but like you said, there isn’t currently a mod that could take care of it. Just wait until one of the staff members comes online, and be sure it will be taken care of... thankfully it isn’t that big of a deal...

The main reason I do it is so that spammers do not know when I am on.
On a side note, it looks like we have decided on another new mod for the forums. The person should be contacted within the next week to see if they are interested.
As always, we will not disclose anyone we consider as they are welcome to refuse the offer and we do not wish to cause them any potential problems in the forum if they choose to refuse.

We definatly do not need anymore SMC. Sorry to break it to you guys, but our new SMC's are doing more then enough, I find it ahrd enough now to find a broken rule that is not already reported. SMC's like LP_chris and styroid are doing a fantastic job so therefore we don't require anymore SMC's in my opinion. I probably should expand my forum searching and start looking&posting in more forums then just PS3 disscussion, Xbox 360 disscusion and General chit chat. It's on my to-do list just need to start it.

I think you guys should make one of the long standing moderators an admin, I just think there is one or two of them that have been here for awhile and done a great job and they deserve it, even though I have no clue exactly what they would do as admin, help out I guess but well not much to do at all, you guys seriously need to start adding mods after the upgrade, like something interesting, shop gets boring :lol: .

Actually that's up in the air right now. They might be cancelling it next year due to lack of interest in the program (they need at least 25 students and have somewhere around 5 that have confirmed that they'll go, 10 who are thinking about it). If it comes to that, I'm sure I'll have access to a computer every once in a while (and the PS3's web browser, assuming I can get it hooked up over there). Even so, it's only four months, and I've got more than a year before I'll be going there.

I think the mods have it down for now. I saw a plethora of locks when I came in today, and although that's never a good thing, it shows the job is getting done. The best possible thing to do with things that are posted are:
1) Do not post solely for the sake of saying it was posted already/ its old news
2) Insulting the poster
Both not only are unecessary, but waste forum bandwith, one of which is a precious commodity.
I see way to many active members who do this for the sake of getting their post count up (once it was me too, but I have lately stopped), and certainly such actions will not improve your standing in the light of the administrators for consideration.
I guess my point is to just let things work themselves out, you don't earn a job by begging, you earn it through proving your character.

sorry guys i think the problem was that the last couple days the server has been slow. it turns off people and it makes it hard to clean up the place. it will be back to normal now and the mods are doing great.
Based upon the mods who gave their location, we only have 5 time zones covered. Two of those time zones have more than one moderator.
Yep, i mentioned that a while ago. They said something was going to be done about it. But that was a month ago so . . . . .
