New PSU / PS3Forums coming soon!

Hey everyone!

Hope you're all having a good weekend. Just a quick post to say:

Even though we've not been posting as much as we used to, it's been for a good reason - we've been working on an exciting update to PSU and the Forums. The goal of the update is to:

* Make the forums quicker to load
* Make them much easier to use, quicker to read & more fun to browse
* Make them look nicer (some bits of the current site can be harsh on the eyes)
* Integrate them more gracefully with PSU (right now we've got loads of links on the right taking up space -- we'll make that work a lot better)
* Better browser support - no more bugs (the sites will now work with all browsers; FF2/3, IE 6/7, Safari, Chrome, Opera and even the PS3 Browser!

Hopefully you guys will like the update. We've worked hard on it :-) Expect the upgrade at some point next week!

Cool. I like the look of the forums now but a little grapgics upgrade would be nice. As long as there isn't to much going on while I am browsing the forums. The speed of these forums need to be increased alot. I hate waiting for it to load a page. It isn't that long but it should be faster.

One thing i hope that does not change - is that ps3 forums are designated as a forum, and they not not change to conincide with PSU (which is banned from my work) same thing happened to playfire - i was in the beta, up for a while then worked banned it. this forum is one of the only places a lot of us that use PS3forums at work .... Just a little note or thought regarding the intergration

So PSU and Admins make sure it is working well before you release it. Take as much time as you need.

I'm a subscriber and I'm seeing Ads. Not only that, but the ad at the top has shifted the whole forum to the right of my screen. I'm using Google Chrome.

We will fix that on both counts; sorry about that.

EDIT: On FireFox things are fine, but maybe because I have Adblock plus installed.

3: Speed.. Sadly, the forum has actually never been slower for me. I am hoping it's due to being new, but other people don't seem to have this slowness that I do, whereas I rarely had slowdowns when other people complained about them before the switch over.

I like the overall design of the forum [the blue background with the symbols up top is VERY nice] but there are a few problems which need to be ironed out. For example, I was just taking a look at a few peoples user profile pages and I noticed that in the comment section, where it displays the users names, it has a huge bar. Does it really need that much space for the name?

And on the forum index, I'm assuming the default vBulletin icons will be replaced with custom PSU/PS3Forums' icons?

It's pretty decent, not the huge leap forward i was thinking but its ok. The white boxes look kind of cluttered at the top. Idk it's not really working with me. But who am I anyway lol, im sure a lot of people like it more. The performance is noticeably better though and thats all that matters

Are we meant to have lost the 'Subscriber' Image and have it replaced with just text. Can subscribers please have a new forum name colour now too? The colour at the moment sort of gets lost. Something brighter would be nice.

Sorry, I'm late to this conversation as I never visit this section but just thought I'd let you know that I'm using Firefox and the speed of the forum is ridiculously slow for me.

That is version 3.05

The only addons I have are Java quick start, Microsoft .net framework assistant and PC sync 2 synchronisation extension.

I'll search the thread for some answers (slowly) but would be grateful if someone could help.

Yep out plan is to optimise the forum header space post-launch. This was a massive update; so rather than sit on it for another month we opted to get it live asap. We will be making this changes as soon as speed and browser compatibility are sorted.

Im liking the new look, very nice indeed. Very fast loading the pages in both firefox and IE8 but with Firefox scrolling down the pages is very slow, it stutters alot. With IE8 tho its really fast. Im havving none of the problems were the forum is alligned to the right, looks top notch with both browsers on my screen. Good job all round. :D

Edit: Actually disregard the firefox stuttering issue, I logged in via http://www.psu.com/forums/ and its running fine. :D

Just a few problems
Will you be able to get the page back into the middle
As there seems to be a hell of a lot of bare space to the left??
Other than that minor problem and the Ip address its a very good update mate!
Also, the advertisments (Ads by google) at the top of the page are overlapping something and i think its the toolbar to get back to the PS3 forums?
I keep having to press back if i want to go to a different page when last time i would only have to click a little icon saying Ps3 forums and i would be straight back there.
