LONDON - Red Bull has become the first brand to build a presence in PlayStation Home, Sony's much anticipated virtual world, Revolution can reveal.
Red Bull has built a tropical island, featuring an aeroplane racing game based on Red Bull's real world Red Bull Air Race series.
Home is currently under construction

The virtual world will enable gamers to create avatars, interact with each other, create their own apartments, play games, and stream video and music, by connecting to the internet through their PS3 consoles.

John Beasley, brand marketing manager for Red Bull UK said Home represents an opportunity for brands to create "memorable and rich content".

"The game gave us the first opportunity to recreate in the gaming world what we try to do in the real world, which is to facilitate interaction, to give people stories, memories, experiences and a really good opportunity to interact with the brand," he said.

Beasley said Home will show marketers how in-game advertising can be used effectively and will open up the medium to more brands. "It's an easy environment for brands to take that first step into gaming," he added.

Sony has set up Home so that gamers and brands can "generate significant revenues", but has not revealed details of brands it is working with.
A spokesman for Sony said that brand partnerships for Home will be announced at a later date.

Good to see Home finally getting support from other companies. Can't wait to see the plane in Home.

I remember RedBull was the sponsor in WipEout 2097 on the PS1, it'll be interesting what the room will be about because RedBull does quite a lot with different projects.

Not the first company I would have expected to do this, but cool nonetheless.

It's actually a win-win situation; as the more sponsors HOME gets, the more funding the programmers receive to put back into development.

Report: Red Bull First on PS Home

Energy Drink company Red Bull is the first to bring its brand to the upcoming PlayStation Home virtual world, BrandRepublic (http://www.brandrepublic.com/Revolution/News/866365/Red-Bull-becomes-first-brand-PlayStation-Home/)reported from London this week.
The Red Bull world consists of a virtual tropical island where users can play an airplane racing game based on the company's real-life Red Bull Air Race.
Red Bull U.K. brand marketing manager John Beasley stated, "The game gave us the first opportunity to recreate in the gaming world what we try to do in the real world, which is to facilitate interaction, to give people stories, memories, experiences and a really good opportunity to interact with the brand."
Sony has proposed that PlayStation Home will be a prime venue for advertisers to reach the young male demographic.
Home director Jack Buser said in a recent interview with Virtual World News (http://www.virtualworldsnews.com/2008/11/playstation-home-to-be-evolving-living-and-breathing-platform.html), "Consumer brands really see PlayStation Home as a huge opportunity to get their message out to the PlayStation demographic that wasn't possible before, whether that's creating an immersive community, whether that's media that you build around, whether that's virtual items and taking a brand or IP and letting users make it part of their identity."

Oh yes, this is just the beginning.
In 5 years they can make up to 0,5 billion a year if Home is finalized this year.

I wonder what Sony will get for placing this add.
I think that putting an add on the billboards costs money. Clicking on the billboard will add more value for a company and reel in more cash.

A zeppelin or a plain will bring in more cash.

I actually like this ad idea. It will give Sony more revenue to support home, the PSN, and maybe they will start to advertise their games more as well.

That sounds pretty cool. The funny thing is that I live in Thailand, where Red Bull comes from, and over here it is considered a low drink. Mostly motorcycle drivers, truck drivers, and construction workers drink it here. I laughed when my nephew in the states told me that it was the "hip" drink there now.

It was inspired from a Thai drink ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Bull )

It is hip and and it pulled me threw some long heavy dance and Disco nights :)
