View Full Version : PS3Forums.com URL change
Hey guys,
As you know, the only way we can afford to keep PS3Forums going is through the advertising that appears on the site for regular members (people who aren't subscribers (http://www.psu.com/forums/payments.php)). This is the only way we can afford to run this really expensive site (it costs us thousands of dollars a month!)
Recently, with the economy the way it is, we need to figure out how to increase advertising revenue, or else there is a real risk the site might run out of money.
Now, don't get worried, this isn't going to happen. But, in order to maximise ad sales, we need to have the www.PS3Forums.com (http://www.ps3forums.com/) URL redirect to www.PSU.com/forums (http://www.psu.com/forums/../forums) URL. This won't affect your use of the forums at all, as the PS3Forums.com URL will still work, but it will help us get better gaming ads on PS3Forums by linking it to the PSU brand.
Doing this will also allow us to afford more servers, too, as it will mean an increase in PS3Forums's monthly budget. In addition this will enable us to provide a single universal login for both the forums and PSU so no more need to remember/enter multiple logins each time you visit the sites.
It really is a small change, and we will obviously keep the name PS3Forums and it will work exactly the same, but it will mean we can get better advertising on PS3Forums in this economy and not have to risk it closing.
Wanted to give you guys a heads up so you fully understand the reasons before it happens, and why it's so important!

Sorry if I don't sound too happy but...
This change isn't a great one for me because I have more problems with this link. For one, the stars don't show up properly and editing comments/leaving comments doesn't work too well (I'll post a screenshot). Also, the icons are still messed up.
If we are to stick with this URL, please fix the issues that have been here since the launch of the new site.

AdWords is for advertisers. AdSense is for websites that want to make money.

I use firefox and i have the same problems as gruddy...
Hopefully something will be done about this.

This should be fixed now Gruddy. I just had to run an update for the ranks.
Icons are still strange, the comments problem is still there but the stars a bit better now. I still can't see everyones stars.

I see that by default and can only start typing after I double click on the A/A icon on the top right. PS3Forums.com never had that problem.
I use FF3 and have been using the psu.com/forums link since before the site was redesigned, lol. I haven't had any issues and everything works fine on my ends. All the stars are there, icons, editing, etc...
No issue in FF3 from what I can see.

Dave, in FF3, is the icon in the comments box in the top right highlighted? The icons are normal in FF3 for me as well.

The A/A icon? Yeah, it's highlighted, but the main text portion isn't grayed out either.

You guys may want to dump your cookies/cache/temp internet files and start over...it may fix the issue.

Should be fixed now. The update script hadn't finished running. [It takes a while to process nearly 160,000 members] ;)

Thanks for that Seb. I have emptied my cookies/settings/cache in both Firefox and Opera but the comments problem is still here in Opera and the same goes for the icons on the left. Firefox works fine but I prefer to use Opera.

Hello seb and co wonderfull work on the new look etc. I infestand why you have linked the forum section but myself and a large number of people at work first began using the forum as it got through game site filters. Now however this is a different case I'm banned by work due to the psu link. I'm wondering how many other users can no longer access the forums. I'm typing from blackberry to say good bye and good luck in the future and I hope the site goes from sterngh to stength good luck and fair well to the last area us workers can get gaming news.

Hey Gruddy, what's this icon problem? I'm in Opera as well and for me, the rows of icons go 5-1-5-1-5-1 like it couldn't fit all 6 icons on the same row.

This might help me actually, ps3forums were blocked at my school but I guess psu.com was too recent for them, maybe now I can get on the forums :p

o ps3 forums was never blocked for me, i shall have to try psu, but tbh it doesn't really bother me as im mostly on this when im at home.
and just to say, im using FF3 and are having no problems with the forums

Even though I have to get on now with HideMyAss, I'm still cool with whatever is best for the forums. I'll be a subscriber soon, but I know that won't help as much as the switch. I'll be gettin' the 'net soon at home, so I'll be able to be on away from work. I hope the best for this forums!

I too found this site through it being one of the few ps3 forums not blocked!
I use Firefox at home and Safari on my phone and the new site is fine on both. I've grown to like the new look now; it's much more professional looking.
You guys should carry on and go the whole hog by ditching the name PS3forums and going with PSUforums. It'll save you looking behind the times in a couple of years when all the buzz is of the PS4 variety.

I use psu.com/forums, with firefox, and have no problems at all. Everything is perfectly fine.

Really weird you guys are having these problems. Ever since the update everything just ran smoother for me. I have none of the problems you guys see =/

I didn't mean for you to explain it, I just don't understand why you are having the problem. If you are using the same URL, you shouldn't have a problem. Does this occur when you use a different browser ?
They new url is blocked where I work. I am a teacher and bess filter blocks psu.com. I guess I will have to teach now.

Forums are blocked for me at work also. Guess I wont be visiting during the day anymore. Still glad i became a subscriber though, just now I wont be able to have my daily surfs.

It's still running as smoothly for me as it has always been. I wouldn't have even noticed the change if I didn't see this thread. Quick question though. Do we need to bookmark again using this new url or will you have the redirect permanently? Also, I'd love to subscribe but I don't use credit cards and it's hard to do from my country but I'm trying to find a way to do so.

You guys should consider buying your own server's and hosting the site yourself. Might be a TAD cheaper then what your spending now and you'll have better control over everything.

Actually mate it is not at all drastic, as i only get to us the forums at work in a small bit of free time i have. bit of news bit of industry knowledge, bit of ps3 forums.
so not being dramatic at all..... as at home i have what in some circles may be deemed a life... and my forum time, and a number of working people i know's forum time generally revolved around work... So i'm just letting the guys know that some members would not be here due to the forum changes, if that is ok with you !

The forums are psu.com/forums. The PS3forums is no longer there. So when the PS4 comes out it won't matter cause the forums aren't called PS3forums anymore. All they would have to do is change the name on the forums to PS4forums but not the url. I don't think there would be any problems with that.

I also had this problem. I am pretty sure he just needs to reactivate your account and you should be able to log into PSU.

I see that on 99.9% if the members. I also see the 'Skill Points: ????' on the same level as 'Gender'. They are the only two gripes I have with the forum right now. If they get fixed, everything would be perfect. I use Opera (as said before).
