View Full Version : F1 Arrives for PSP in Q3 09

Since Codemasters picked up the exclusive rights to Formula 1 racing from Sony, many have been waiting for a formal announcement on what the company’s plan will be for releasing a new F1 title. News arrived today that is certainly going to leave many scratching their heads.
Codemasters will be first bringing their new F1 title to be called F1 2009 to the PSP and Wii later this fall in a release sometime during the third quarter. The company plans to have the F1 2010 release for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC early next year.
The F1 2009 release for the Wii will be the first F1 title to be released on the console. The Wii and PSP versions will feature multiplayer modes, but it is unclear as of yet what all these modes may be. The Wii version is said to be able to support both split-screen and cooperative race modes, but no word on the possibility of online play. The F1 2009 release will be the first title to ever include the Singapore night race, as well as the first title that will include the new KERS technology that was introduced into F1 this year.

This should be good. I'm torn between getting the PSP and Wii versions. I think i'll get the PSP version because I play it more and know what the controls will be like.
PSP version for me, not that I have a Wii anyway. Finally an up to date F1 game!

Probably get this in the meantime though.. need another title to get me back and playing the PSP again :D

I have been looking forward to this title, hoping it would be out within the 1st 5 or 6 races of this season, once they know which cars are fastest etc.....

how long ave we been waiting for a new f1 game?? championship edition was a year out of date at release, now this one looks set to be a year out of date too...................:bang:

Only PSP and DS this year.

Okay I think these F1 games need a new racing game company. I dont play them very often but I have been waiting for this. It seems to be pulling a GT.

They only got the license a year ago, a game does take time to develop. ;)

The game's not coming out until 2010 for PS3/360, if you watch the trailer you linked to then it tells you that! I'm pretty sure they've confirmed the 2010 game will include the 2010 cars too.

Thats my whole point, when codemasters initially got the licence they est release june 09, now its saying 2010!!
I understand they take time to develope a game but think its been about 8/9 onths since they released first details, so to wait untill 2010 and i dubt it will be out untill midway through the season so they can update team changes and performance etc... a bit dissappointing

Well, look at it this way. Maybe they planned to have everything ready to go for this season, but a lot of things changed. First, all the new rules. Second, all the aero changes. And third, no one knew what would happen with Honda (now Brawn GP). Sure the rules and aero were known far enough ahead of time, but there were things that went down to the wire.

thtas why i was expecting a mid season release to iron out things like the teams performances etc,

really pants trailer, i know there's nothing to show for PS3 or 360 but you think they'd have something for the 09 release on PSP/Wii
guess we got to play the waiting game.......
Competing against GT5? Will tank.
Needed to be this year, mid this year, if it was going to sell some serious numbers.
maybe they are going to go for after GT5 has had its sales slump? that would need to be around late April, which is 4 races into next season!

I completely disagree. OK, launching the same week might not be a good idea, but F1 is F1, and is a far cry from GT5. People who like F1 games (like myself) will buy it regardless pending the reviews.
hmm yeah but there is a far bigger audience of bigger who like car/racing games over F1 games. I mean i'm a huge F1 fan but have never really gotten into F1 games as find them too limited.
GT5 however, whether through unproven rumour or fact, is shaping up to be a beauty and a certain sales challenger to anything it goes up against!
