I read an article saying that the Wii will have VoIP capabilities in the Wii-mote controller including a phonebook/address book. They say that for sure the Wii-mote can allow players online to communicate with each other, but I'm thinking with this kind of technology, it would easy to pair up the Wii with Skype for free internet telephony.

If you think of the layout of the Wii-mote, you'll see that it actually really resembles a phone handset with the placement of the speaker and the microphone. With Wii's wi-fi online capabilities, there's no reason why it can't implement this technology. That would be awesome actually, considering how the Wii has every in place for free internet telephone.

With Connect24 and the Wiimote there are lots of great possibilities and we probably haven't even thought of yet.
In games like Animal Crossing people could visit your town even when you are not playing. Doing this on other consoles and PC would require you to leave it on all the time which isn't such a good idea.
You could get invites to play online with friends while you're watching TV. The remote could ring or your friend could leave you a voice message you can listen to without even turning the console on.
You could also have that VoIP service but I don't know if they have confirmed that it will have a microphone. If they do include something like this it has a lot of potential since it's on all the time. I use Skype and the Skypein feature but I don't use it that much because I have to turn my laptop off during the night and it doesn't work while the it's on standby.

Yeah if they can have the VOiP work on standby with a Skype-type service, that would be awesome. It makes sense since there is supposed to be this "final hardware secret" for the Wii that Nintendo hasn't announced yet. If it's actually free Internet telephony, I think the Wii will send even more massively than already.

A free telephony kind of service could actually be an interesting feature. I made use of Skipe a lot few years back but it would definitely work better with the Wii constantly on standby compared to a PC.

Hello folks, I have DSL; can I wire my entire house for Vonage VOIP? But I need it through my whole house. Vonage support is terrible, people in India that don't speak very good English. So I am turning to the net for help. Can you wire the entire house for VOIP while still using a DSL line? Or do I have to switch to a cable modem (no chance) and disconnect the outside phone wire?
