I have been so frustrated with this infamous piece of SH*T over the past months. Slugish, slow, clunky and extremely inefficient. Back to XP tomorrow after finishing my backup.

Any of you guys happy to downgrade as well?

It's not that bad.

Have Vista at home and work, no problems or complaints.

Still running XP on one of my home PC's but only as its a fairly average spec and I know it wouldn't run Vista so haven't bothered.

I wouldn't consider it a downgrade to go to XP, but have you considered upgrading to Windows 7? I haven't tried it yet but have heard a lot of good things.

I'm using 7 RC1 right now and it is really, really good. I find it to be much improved over Vista all-around.

Still using vista on my laptop, and windows 7 on my PC. No problem on either machine. In b4 "lol vista uzez s0 mch ram" argument.

Yeah, I hate Vista. Just today when copying 7 gigs of files to a flash card it kept saying "program not responding" was what Vista told me. But it was actually just doing it's job and I had to wait the 15 min for it to finish before that error went away.

That's how crappy it is, even Vista has low confidence in itself.

I think vista's better than XP, way better looking and more stable. I've used it on high-end and entry-level PCs and it works just as well on both.

It is quite slow on the startup, epecially on my GF's computer. Not too bad on Uni computers, but if I had the choice, it would be XP, Ubuntu, or trying out Windows 7.

I think he has a core 2 duo and an 8400gs video card. He asked a question before. Yes I also recommend switch to Windows 7 RC1/RC2.

Cue applause . . .

now go and try the Windows 7 RC, you will be surprised. It the shinyness of vista, minus the slowness.

For all of you recommending W7, I won't be putting a beta as an OS in my system coming from MS as good as it is. Rather have a stable XP. Playing around with MS's OSs is just like playing around with a nuclear reactor.

BTW: Dual Core @ 2.2Ghz, 256Mb 8400M G, 2G Ram.

SpyroViper
06-09-2009, 12:59
Dude, it's not a beta. It's a Release Candidate, different kettle of fish.

Also, in it's current state, it's more stable and secure than Windows XP. You won't believe it until you try it, it is FANTASTIC! Considering it's on my main gaming PC, that speaks for itself.

I am not a fan of Vista at all.

Wasn't really a fan of XP either to be honest but I may give Windows 7 a shot if it's all that! lol

It is!

Like I said, when I got my rig built for me, I said don't bother with an OS. I was so confident that Windows 7 X64 would work with everything I wanted on my rig. It hasn't let me down yet, even games that weren't designed with Win 7 X64 work on it. Hell, even Ubisoft games work on it, that's saying something.

Avast Works, Spybot works, Gamespy Comrade works, EA download manager works, FF works, everything just works!

Look, if you have the time, install the W7 RC and see what it is like for yourself.

You may not like it, but i doubt that will happen. I haven't had any problems with it, software all works fine and it is not a sluggish as Vista. If you have a new-ish cpu, then you should be able to run 'Windows XP Mode' which is a XP virtual machine incase some programs don't work for you (again i doubt that will happen).

If you don't have the time, then just install XP like you had planned.

SpyroViper

It even runs on my Netbook!

Seriously, it runs blisteringly fast on a Netbook and super ultra uber n00b fast on my rig.

W7 in general is what VISTA should have been really W7 dosn't have that constant HDD activity like VISTA does even when it's not doing anything it's still using the HDD.

I am on XP SP3 I have a decent speced system

Windows XP Pro SP3
AMD Phenom 9550 AM2+ (4x 2.2ghz - B3 Rev)
Gigabyte GA-MA78G DS3H AM2+ (R1.0 BIOS F4)
Kingston H-X 4GB PC8500 1066Mhz DDR2 v2.1 (5-5-5-15)
Some RMA'd HDD from Seagate (Soon To Be Replaced)
Inno3D 8600GT 256mb PCI-E (Stock)
Samsung LightScribe DVD-RW
Active Power 850w Mod PSU

I'll be moving over to W7 RC1 64bit next week when my OCZ Vertex SSD arrives as W7 is going on that and my main storage will be the 250gb I currently have. But thats getting replaced for a WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATA-II HDD next month and then a upgrade to graphics from what I have now to a HD4770.

I'm looking forward to testing W7 RC1 64bit I did use the BETA version when I had OC2 2GB kit and I got used to it's confusing desktop and I didn't mind it.

huh?

If you mean the way it now uses icons on the taskbar instead of full names for the programs, i would hardly have called this confusing.

W7 RC1 FTW!!!

Is this a Vista issue? I kept on reinstalling THQ's company of heroes not knowing you needed internet for a patch.. Not only did I lose, without getting it back, tons of hdd space. But, now it goes up and down the hdd space whenever I reboot.

I for one always thought uninstall = returns to previous state or, you basically get the space back.

I'm still using Windows XP (SP3) and I've had no problems using it whatsoever. I intend to use it for a few more years and only when I'm forced to switch will I consider using Windows Vista or Windows 7. Until then, XP will do me fine.

This isn't /b/.

And don't downgrade, just get Windows 7. It works great and I have yet to have any real issues running games or programs. Other than the fact that I went from XP 32 bit, to Windows 7 64 bit. So 32 bit only programs obviously still don't work.

Really? Hadn't noticed that, thanks for informing me! The argument(about the ram usage) is still one that an uninformed person would make though.

I agree with you 100%. Every time someone complains about vista, it's usually about it using so much ram when it really isn't. Last time I posted info on how it really works but It was ignored and I was told something was wrong with me for using Vista. :???:

I'm on vista 64bit and haven't had a single problem with it. :D

Not saying they wouldn't. But I just get annoyed when people try to use phrases from /b/ because they think they are funny or something.

Post your specs and switch to Windows 7.

I agree with the above. I used Vista Ultimate for such a long time and my only real complaint was the slowness of it. I've switched to Windows 7 and love it so much because it's like Vista but way faster. Even my friend was surprised at how fast my laptop is with Win7. I can't go back to XP anymore just like XP users can't go back to 98. :P

06-10-2009, 13:24
I didn't think you could downgrade to XP? When I first got my laptop, with vista on, I stuck the XP disk in, and it wouldn't work. I might try Windows 7 though if everyone is raving about it.

Vista is just *****.

Tyrien

I don't have any issues with vista outside normal random windows problems that I've been getting on 95, 98, melienium, and xp for years.

i hate vista as well , im sitll using xp

Used Windows 7 RC for the weekend. Installed Gears of War..got to the screen to load my profile via Windows LIVE, app crashed.

I turned off most of the visual effects in Win7 and got it to a spot where it didn't look like it was trying to hard to almost look as good as OS X..and I was content with it, but regardless of what others may think...it's not FASTER than XP. Maybe once it has video drivers that will allow me to play EVERY game I install, I'll go back. Or maybe when I get Windows 7 Enterprise next month I'll install an actual copy of Windows 7 instead of an RC.

Right now, XP works as a gaming OS better than Windows 7. Yeah, it lacks DirectX 10 support, but really, for those minimal features my games would take a pretty good performance hit.

Maybe Win7 next month.

06-23-2009, 05:01
I didn't think Vista was all that bad. Since the RC for 7 is out I would have definitely went for that first before going down to WinXP. I wouldn't really call it a BETA, especially since it runs extremely smooth with little or no crashes. I've yet to have any crashes with the OS and all my programs and games run fine on it.

Since you had to do a fresh install anyways (only way to downgrade an OS) I would have went with Windows 7 anyways to at least give it a try.

I had VISTA 64 Ult on my computer and I never had a single issue with it. Maybe it deals more with store bought computers or what not. My laptop came with Vista Home and it would BSOD maybe 1 time a week, not frequently.

I installed my Ult copy on it and it ran flawless. Now its got W7 on it and its running even better.

P.S., XP sucks.

I'm considering building a high spec gaming PC capable of the highest quality of gaming. I might just stick W7 on it or XP Pro. Can't decide. Probably by the time I get round to it W7 will be released anyway so I might just put that on.

Xelios
06-23-2009, 18:04
I dunno, I personally love Vista 64. I've had no problems, other than Linksys not releasing 64 bit drivers for my wireless card, but taht was easily resolved. Its running fine, but I do agree that W7 is a lot better.

SharkOutofWater
06-23-2009, 18:06
I love my vista... I would never change to anything else for a long time.

Then again, I dont know much about PC's tech wise, but It does everything I have ever wanted it to do, and never had any problems. Plus I dont need to worry about my trial antivirus programs running out anymore, as I dont run any.

06-24-2009, 00:13
W7 is soo nice compared to Xp, just go with it. Heck, maybe if we're lucky, once W7 comes out and you buy it maybe it'll be an upgrade for W7 RC and you wont have to reinstall it.
