Help with PSN Setup

Ok guys, I need help setting up a friends PSN. He has no router currently connected. Just the modem to the PS3. Hard wired. When we go to test connection, it says,
IP Address: Succeded (Spelling?)
Internet Connection: FAILED!

DNS Error *********

What do I need to do? already unplugged the modem, no dice.

You need a router primerially to connect to the internet with a games console because a basic modem does have the functions needed that a router has.

You could use your PC as talking point for your Playstation but your pc would need to be on for you to go online with your PS3.

Well, the PC is still on it just fails at internet connection every time.

You share your interent connection between PC and PS3 and you connect as proxy to your PC that is what I meant.
