View Full Version : (Rumour)Naughty Dog dev confirms cross game voice chat
After asking Sony for cross-game chat, it looks Sony will officially be unveiling the feature for the PS3 in the very near future. While posting on the Official PlayStation forums, Naughty Dog developer ReklissAbandon made an interesting post:
“I think they wanted people to have fun and enjoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies’ positions.”
No date was revealed for the feature, but it’s been rumored to be hitting prior to the end of October. With just over two weeks left to the month, the firmware could be landing at any given time now. Be patient; soon the cross-game chat feature we have all asked for will be made available.

Cross game chat has been confirmed by "ReklissAbandon" over at the official PS3 community forums by mistake.
His post has been deleted since he posted it. I WONDER WHY? lol :rolleyes:

Scheduled for FW 3.10 is the implied release date.

..hopefully they can find a way to lock out chat during respawn, if you're talking with clients on the same game. There was some talk about that with Socom - but it probably would be difficult to do.

^Agreed. I don't trust that 100% but I will say, this puts more weight on the rumor at least...and if it does come out true, puts more weight on what was said about EA as far as cross-game chat is concerned.
"ALLOW" and "USE" are two totally different ball games though. If it isn't mandatory, I doubt many devs are going to take the time to add it.

If it doesn't work regardless of the game you're playing (and without needing any implementation by game devs) then it isn't 'cross-game chat', but I know what you mean. It needs to be part of the OS.

According to a NeoGAF mod, Cross Game chat has been in the SDK's for the most recent updates.

if sony bring this feature out i believe they will get much more custormers
I personally don't believe cross game chat will get them more customers. It will make it easier for people to communicate and get online, but bring more, no in my opinion.

Easier, but I just don't use this on my 360 at all. Quite a few apparently do because of all the noise made against PSN, but I just don't mind texting someone instead.

Backwards compatibility, cross game invites, bigger friends list, for Sony to get rid of the Copy & Paste feature beacause now it's an annoyance, sending videos on your PS3 to your friends via messaging, for the PSP Go to be cheaper, For the PS3 Slim to be cheaper, for the PSN cards to get to Europe, and for a Video store in Canada.

they wanted all people to have fun talking to each other when they are dead no matter what team, then they say so you will also be able to say enemies positions using cross game chat, you can hear your team mates anyways in game and you only hear opposition when they are close to you but

Well true, which is why I didn't say that it would confirm it. But surely, why all of a sudden, after that rumor gets out, that we're going to get this feature?
But yea, there's always that chance that it was just planned to be out around this time or that it was just getting delayed. It will definitely fuel that fire for some folks that originally believed the EA to be the cause of this delay or its abandonment. I never honestly believed that mole though. I think he was just trying to get attention.

No no no - the mole said EA stopped Sony from adding ingame music, not voice chat.
Hmmm...could've sworn it was cross-game chat :/ If it was in-game music...then I need a break from these forums.

I'm sure he was speaking of chat. Because he said it was suppose to be in 3.0, but because of that certain company it had to be post phoned.

Well if someone can be bothered to dig up what he said, please do. But heres what I remember:
ingame music was being worked on but Harry Potter 5 wouldn't work with it and EA wouldn't update the game to work with it (this could be around 2007 time).
CGVC is being tested in the labs and should be in 3.0 if all goes well. He then updates us that they are having problems with that same game again.
Now, if CGVC does come, Sony have found a way around it, but if it does come EA aren't out of the picture until we get ingame music - thats the one you need to watch.
He could be lying of course, but I'd say thats unlikely since he leaked 3.0 (and spot on with the features), the exact week it landed and the 250GB Slim (we only knew about the 120GB).

Sounds promising. It at least agrees with what the guy at VG247 stated a couple of weeks ago... we'll see what happens.

That insider who predicted 3.0 and all its features also said voice chat would come at the end of October. So I'm pretty hopeful

It was both according to the enraged Sony employee over @ GAF.
I hope they actually improve the XMB voice chat whilst they're at it.
I dunno if any of you have used it extensively but it can be really really bad. Especially if you're talking to people across the world. The voice quality is alright when it works, but it lags tremendously and a lot of the time you can't even hear eachother.
So after cross game chat, what would be the "it" thing that the psn lacks. Ohhh non centralized facebook integration.

They had this on X-play yesterday. It was onthe little ticker message that scrolls across the bottom of the screen. They usually don't run rumors on that show. I also think it should be "cross game" only. No people talking to each other in game from opposite team giving away peoples posistions. It will probably be like the in game music thing and well barely be able to use it.

Right now, I wouldn't even consider buying a game like MW2 on PS3, but if this rumor proves to be true, and Sony actually catches up to the year 2005 with PSN, then I'd start seriously considering buying multi-plat games on the PS3. This situation is exactly the same for no less than 10 dual-system owners on my friends list.

Thats what I'm thinking as well. My guess its not part of the OS and has to be patched by each developer in order to work. Thats just how Sony works.

Getting sick of seeing 14 people make this same point every time a thread about cross-game chat gets authored. This is obviously a feature that a huge number of people want to see implemented. It doesn't make them whiny or needy.

Just the party system. Private chat across games has been available on 360 since launch.

Yep it is, if you check both the EU and US blog after EVERY update pretty much 1/2 the comments are asking for cross voice chat so I think its safe to assume Sony have noticed this and from the uncharted devs leak it seems it will be inevitable for it to come :P
