Today Microsoft's Major Nelson has warned that next week's XBox 360 update will see the blocking of unauthorized storage devices.

To quote: When Preview Program members start receiving the Xbox 360 system update next week, one of the changes is that unauthorized Memory Units will no longer work with the Xbox 360.

If you've moved your profile or saved games onto one to "back it up," you'd better move it back onto an authorized Xbox 360 storage device prior to taking the update.

If you continue to use an unauthorized Memory Unit after the update, you will not be able to access your stored profile or saved games.

If you need help identifying officially licensed http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/catalog.aspx?st=&g=209000000&sd=2&p=1&c=10 or accessories you can read more about the http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/xboxlive/getconnected/xboxlivecompatiblelogo/xboxlivecompatiblelogo.aspx on Xbox.com.

That has got to be a joke that is a pretty big scam for your money but its clever on microsoft part as they make more money,
however I'm fine backing stuff up onto a USB or External Hard drive

The link to the product on amazon is the same on msofts website. I'm confused about that part.

If this is true, like in the expandable madcatz card, this is pretty crappy by Microsoft. No wonder people hate them so much. What purpose does this "blocking" serve, other than to line their pockets through officially licensed products. If they don't want to support a product that isn't licensed, then don't support it. Don't block the consumers choice to use devices that are cheaper alternatives than higher priced "officially licensed" peripherals. /shakes head

Ok, the first post needs to be changed a little bit. According to the first post, that amazon link is supposedly an unauthorized card. According to MJ site, that card linked to at amazon is what you SHOULD be using.

you’d better move it back onto an authorized Xbox 360 storage device (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O62OS6?ie=UTF8&tag=majornelsocom-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000O62OS6) prior to taking the update.
