'I need to write a paper on whether or not video games cause agression. In order together I put together a simple 5 question survey. It'll take literally less than a minute to answer, I just need some data to analyze, completely anonymous, thanks for any help! :)

Since I was up and saw this, I knocked one out for you. My only marginal answer was the time spent on gaming (it's more like 2-3 hours a _week_ vs. 1-3 a day).

I get mad at games sometimes [mainly due to lag and glitches] and my physical altercations weren't initiated by me, so it doesn't really cause aggression in a normal sense.
Being "that was BS" is not the same as cursing someone out IRL,etc lol.

It's more of a matter of questioning whether or not, it causes people to more aggressive overall in general. Definitely an interesting question considering I've been a gamer since I can I remember. Thanks again for the help :) +rep!

My frustrations extend to banging on a table when conceding a bs goal in Fifa, or when on a bad streak. Otherwise, gaming is my relax time.
I absolutely hate the claim that videogames cause aggression, since I believe that it's just one of many contributors, but gets singled out rather unfairly. Let us know how your paper turns out!

As a former psych major I know the joy of needed survey data for papers so good luck.
IDK, when I was younger I used to get upset playing games and bang controllers and such...these days that just seems foolish (plus everything is too expensive to just toss around).

Video games don't cause violence, in fact violence (assault/murder) has been on the down swing for hundreds (well thousands) of years. The % of the population that dies from warfare is tiny, compared to what it used to be.
Lawerence H Keeley's landmark text "War before civilization" highlights how violent our past has been in comparison to modern violence. Humans were almost universally more violent before videogames, for reasons unrelated to videogames.
Even Homicide by Daly/Wilson shows homicide used to be WAY more common. Today we have more PEOPLE but a SMALLER % of those people die in warfare. Tribes can easily lose 5% of a population in a war or massacre, imagine 5% of Canada's population dissapearing in 1 bomb strike... thats common in prehistory. Depending on what tribe, some sick % (20%+) of males die in warfare.
Look at Helena Valerie's account of the Yanomami kidnapping...
Violence is almost universally the providence of MEN 90% of violent crime is caused by men, we don't see female violence sky rocket with videogames, its an absurd claim. Hundreds of school kids die or get badly injured from school sports which encourges physical competition between males.

Did your survey. I'd say video games only cause aggression when you're getting your *** kicked or when the game/console freezes and renders the past few hours of leveling up meaningless :lol:

ive never really hit someone over a game; but some games that are very difficult make me really frustrated to the point where i might throw my controller at the wall
