How can you not be sure?
From what we saw:
-The black guy became overly defensive and assumed the old guy was suggesting only blacks should be spit shining his shoes.
-The black guy threatened the white guy
-The old guy disagreed.
-The old guy walks away
-The black guy is still talking
-The white guy talks back
-The black guy goes out of his way to get up, follow the old guy, then tries to hit him
-The old guy had enough and hit him back.
The white guy didn't even go overboard. He got a few good hits off, then walked away. He was obviously pissed off that the kid thought he was going to take him down. It's arguable he threw one hit too many, but this isn't a case of crossing a line either. Crossing the line is when it's clearly passed the point of going "too far" and turns from self-defense/emotional retaliation to brutality.

It IS arguable that the man could have hit the kid less, but it wasn't excessive at all. The kid was being hit over the course of less than 10 seconds.

Anyways, they both were being incredibly immature, and should have acted their age. But the old man was entitled to self defense as far as I'm concerned, if someone walks up and hits you first, you should be allowed to beat them down.
Furthermore, the video really shows how many people are simply all talk. If you're going to start a fight you better be prepared to end it.

Actually, back to being severe...if you notice, the old guy actually grabs his head and bashes it on those steel seats.
Yes, the black guy attacked him first and now the white guy has every right to kick his butt but I think he went a little overboard.
The kid shoved him, he didn't punch the old man.
At first, I thought the old man only punched him a few times but he went much further.
If I was in that situation, I would've stopped at the punches.
Also depends on how dangerous I think the other guy is. I didn't think this kid was much dangerous, seeing how built that old man was. I'm sure he knew the kid couldn't have done much damage to him even if he had stopped after the 5-6 punches.
Now if the kid had a gun, I understand everyone has the right to defend themselves to the fullest and I would not have given a crap even if he had killed the kid.

That seems like a plausible explanation.
It does tell why the guy joked about it and if the black guy took this serious then he was fully at fault.
