In a stunning show that game industry analysts indeed are fallible human beings, Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter (http://joystiq.com/tag/michael-pachter) has changed his mind on Natal's supposed price. The prolific analyst prognosticated last year that price would be the primary factor in moving Natal hardware, leading him to predict that it would launch for less than $50 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/15/pachter-project-natal-will-cost-50-sphere-will-be-over-100/). However, he now tells IndustryGamers that it will likely cost more, noting, "consumers will come to believe that the product and software has a lot of value." Furthermore, Pachter says that the higher that Microsoft and Sony price their motion controls, the less likely a consumer is to buy the competing product. In other words, if you spend $100 on Natal (http://joystiq.com/tag/project-natal), you probably won't be too keen to plunk down another $100 for Sony's motion controller (http://joystiq.com/tag/playstation-motion-controller) (and vice versa).

Pachter also tackles the DSi XL (http://joystiq.com/tag/dsi-xl). He has some choice words for the beefy handheld, pointing out the $60 difference between the DS Lite and DSi XL models. "I'm not sure that bigger screens provide the value that Nintendo thinks," says Pachter, adding his belief that the entire DS line is due for a price cut. He concludes the device won't succeed at launch "since it costs only $10 less than a Wii."

Other topics discussed include Richard Garriott's foray into social media (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/18/interview-richard-garriotts-space-epiphany-ncsoft-departure-a/), the marketing of Dante's Inferno (http://joystiq.com/tag/dantes-inferno) and the specter of third party success on the Wii -- "most third party Wii games just plain suck," says Pachter.

I dont think DSi XL will apeal to younger or our aged more aimed at older people like keeping their minds active etc
it smart just not to us but the elderly will probably like it
and Natal standalone price will probably be alot

Going off what he says here, who ever launches first SONY or Microsoft, may have the upper hand price wise because after that purchase they may not buy the other.

Sounds like what happened at the start of this generation.

I think more or less if you buy 1 motion device for either company you'd stick with it rather than getting both.

On a side note, the second one to launch could come in at a decently lower price. Though I don't think it will matter how much Natal cost cause I believe it'll sell like hot cakes even if Sony's is a good bit cheaper.

I think what we're going to see actually is Nintendo paying attention to the release dates of both, and dropping the price of the Wii down $50 a few months before to take away some potential customers.

Taking a look at the success of Nintendo's multiple iteration hand held business model, I don't think anyone has a place criticizing them. Nintendo is obviously well aware of what they're doing.
