Really, tell me something I don't already know. Of course a gamer will not be healthy if he or she plays without any exercise till old age, but I beg to differ, so, psu, what do you think of this "study"?

I dont think you can compare something that is known to give you cancer and cause death to something that is enjoyed on a TV set. Unless you are playing on a 20 year old monitor, chances are you wont get cancer. Im willing to bet cancer has killed more smokers than gamers :P But I think the study refers more the addiction part rather than the physical effects. But I agree, unless you play games for 60 years and never venture outside then smoking cannot be compared to chain smoking. I guess people are just bored these days and nothing else to 'study' than comparing gamers to smokers.

I think this study is another crock of **** to be honest. I suppose an office worker would also be labelled as such, as well as a food critic, a TV critic, someone who watches tons of TV all day, book readers etc..

But again the stupid editors of this world like to hit on gamers. Oh dear..

And the funny thing is the people who did this "study" probably aren't physically fit either, or at least some of them.

If they have the time to concoct this tripe, I'm getting they were doing it, while sitting on their extra strength chair with a bag of cheetos balanced on their whale-like stomachs.

the funny thing I find is that this is a yahoo article, owned by microsoft, right? lol but it's no surprise with the writers at yahoo..sure, they sometimes post some good news articles, but most of the articles are on "what not to do to your significant other" or "how calorie foods pose a risk for death" and then "how calorie may provide protection against diseases" common...at least the sports writers have humor

eh maybe they are maybe they're not, regardless, I think these people are parents and that's why they're being such bullies

They aren't just parents, they're the parents of lazy fat kids so of course they have to point the finger at a video game because it couldn't possibly be their fault. The fact that they never do anything with their children, have never encouraged them to play sports, and have fed them McDonalds by the shovel full for their entire lives has nothing to do with it - nope - they're fat because of video games. :snicker

The article begins by stating some pro gamers have reflexes compared with fighter pilots... i'd hesitate to call the study bull****. Elite gamers play 5-10 hours a day, even with a vigerous exercise routine sitting down for long stretches is bad on the cardiovascular system.

most gamers don't meet exercise crietia + sitting down for long stretches you might be comparable to a 60year old chain smoker at 20 some.

gaming is one aspect of modern living, theres dozens of others. We're evolved well for hunter gatherer socities and diets, not for modern laid back living. If you squatted to play videogames like a hunter squatting to observe some animal it'd be a million times healthier.

albiet strange and uncomfortable. Humans are poorly adapted to the demands of an upright posture, our organs can twist in ways 4 legged animals avoid because mammalian nervous systems are well adapted to 4 legged gaits, but when flipped vertical the organs are no longer 100% sensibly arranged, like a patchwork.

im not that unfit

today i played 3 premier league football games, scored a hat-trick in 2 of them....i then ran about shooting people whilst sprinting non stop, collected a few flags from the other side of a big complex,...then i rode my horse around for a while and chased grizzly bears with a hunting knife, then was doing some fist fights in the local bar, later on i might go steal some cars or hunt some more bears...

im very active

most 60 year old chain smokers sit in the pub and only venture out to goto bookies....i do way more :)

Unlike most heavy gamers I am fit so this is not a perfect study and I disagree.

Hahhahahah scottscorpion you are the man!

This study is silly. There are so many factors, games jeapordise health in the same way that wacthing movies or tv does, but also gives arthritus of the hands

This is so stupid. I consider myself a pretty 'core' gamer - 360, PS3, with both a very healthy library on both. Also play a couple of games on PC. Yet I find the time to do some cycling, uni, brazilian jiu jitsu 4 nights a week, and other sports - and remain at a pretty good state.

There are so many other factors they didn't take into account.

It looks like they took their samples exclusively from over 30 year old guys with ponytails, and beards, and nasaly voices that live in their mum's/grandma's basement.

I thought with the advent of this thing called 'bipedalism', that we'd be "alright" standing up and running.

and the thing is that arthritis is actually treatable while some serious cancers aren't, and have a life expectancy rate of 5 years or mere months if diagnosed with stage 4 or higher...lol these guys compare a tiny problem to a life threatening condition, pleeeeeeeeease lol

lol I'm not in shape, and some people would consider me obese in medical terms, but I got my head outta my *** and am finding mor time to go to the gym and run on the treadmill with music...lol as I said before in other studies, these people just want to pin as much crap as they can on gaming as a whole, they think that it will make children anti-social into their adulthood, but that's only if their parents do not supervise them properly...if they wanna try and look at anti-socialism, then they should start with the number one selling MMO of all time, World of Warcraft.

I think they just want to do this to make it seem that it's more of an anti-social problem than a health one, despite the article's title...regardless, they are wrong because contrary to popular belief, sitting on the couch does not add fat to your body, eating bad food does..lol and thank you

Are garlic bagguettes, cookies and cola bad stuff? Because that's all I eat and I gotta buy my clothes from China cause western ones aren't small enough =(
