View Full Version : Let's talk MAG on Move.
So far I haven't had that much time to mess with it, but I'm quite awful compared to how I was with a controller. In general if an enemy is on the screen and I don't have to move the camera, shooting from the hip the Move makes it so easy to hit them. It feels so smooth and nice. Any other situation hasn't gone as well for me though...
I'm still getting used to playing a game with 2 separate pieces in my hands so I know that's part of it. But I just can't seem to customize the controls to feel "right" to me. Striking a good balance between moving the gun around the screen and moving the camera is very difficult IMO. Has anyone had better luck? Did you find a good list of settings?
It's fun but challenging I have managed to get better though, innately found a setting which i like. But I do turn down the pitch to 0 so that it slows you down from looking up.
I think it needs just a tad bit of auto aim just enough to put move players on even playing fields. Because aiming no hard the hard part is striding left and right because the gun blocks your view if the enemies go to the sides
Or just center the redicule when looking left or right will help

OMG I forgot about MAG. Gonna go update it now and have a go :D THANKS!
Remember though, Move is only in the mag beta right now. And the beta takes a LONG time to update/install. And it's only open for a 12-hour window Mon-Fri depending on your location
Now you know why I haven't gotten around to playing it much. And Cpitt, you hit on something I didn't realize was frustrating me. With Move, you can't really strafe into a room. You are kinda confined to forward movement which does not work out well when you are going around corners.

The custom settings for the bounding box are bugged in the beta, i.e. if you want to shrink the bounding box to the minimum, you have to increase the settings all the way. I'm getting good results with the box at 100 horizontal and 75 vertical for hip shooting (normal setting box), the other boxes I shrank them as small as they could go. The iron sights/scope are supposed to be getting updated before 2.0

So basically it's going to be better with a pad. This turns me off. I'll give it a go myself tho
Wow I didn't realize the bounding box settings were reversed...
That is frustrating to know I wasted so much time trying different settings out. Well at least I'll get to try again tomorrow and see if I can find something I like better.

Dasimpse, it seems like you automatically assume everything move related is going to be bad with one small suggestion of it then you switch back and forth between being good with it or bad with it.
i don't know how MAG is from first hand experience but i have read from many different people that it works extremely well after patch 1.04. unless you are using a sniper rifle. i heard that they are still having issues with that. who knows? you have a move controller and can download the MAG Move beta. when you try it for yourself tell us what you think from first hand experience. i would appreciate hearing it from your perspective because, like i have stated, i have only heard good things about the aiming (minus snipers) from other users. i will try and download the patch and try it for myself as well.
How is the aiming, is it anything like mouse input or is it simply axis input applied to the wand?

I'm not in MAG beta, but I'm waiting for the MOVE patch!!!! But I thought about it and the trick is to try olding the MOVE and NavCon in the way u play and trying to aim in the middle while not moving.... Look at reticule and try setting the dead zone as big as the diameter(reticule) when u were moving trying not to move while aiming in the middle!!!!
Don't know if u guys understand, but taht's what I'm gonna do when patch's out!!!! If my math are good, this way will give me something close to Kb/M!!!

Most of the settings are broken and the sniper rifle is still broken. So lets see what happens after 2.0. Hopefully they've listened to the beta tester suggestions.
YESSSSS!!!! I think I found my ideal setting keep in mind it's not battle proven yet. But I was in the training room for 3 hours. And I had some deadly aim I was able to quickly hit barrels from left to right.
I was able to keep my crosshairs were I was aiming and still strife left and right, cut corners and best of all the redicule was not moving up and down all over th place. It felt so natural kind of like that's the only way it was meant to be played.
I will post a thread tommorrow step by step of what I did, and my default settings that way you can customize it to what works for you. I urge you that before you go into battle to mess with settings in training room and do not step out of it untill you have your basics down
Before you input my settings keep in mind that what is ideal for me might not be to your liking, bu it will be a start to tweaking them.
A shirt description was that I was able to look side to side fast, while maintaing the the redicule in the center line. And turning around is importan to me
Well guys gotta go to sleep but I will go into more detail tommorrow hope my settings work for some of you guys
Hope this clip works

So I bought Move today. I installed the Beta and downloaded the last game update (haven't played since the first week of launch). And I'm not getting anything but a black screen when I try to play the Beta. What am I doing wrong? I think I seen somewhere that it's only open during certain times? Is this the problem?

Do you have the original MAG disc in when you're trying to play the beta? I didn't at first and got a black screen...

My brother inlaw bought Mag the same day I did, and his game is here also. I guess it could be possible that maybe they were switched somehow I'll try tomorrow after work.

Sorry no update yet.........I've been doing another game update (like almost 1700 mbs) It's been uploading for over 5 hours.
Even with cpitt's improved settings (http://www.psu.com/forums/threads/242239-MAG-move-settings-looks-like-a-viable-control-scheme-%28videos%29), I was awful while playing online compared to using a controller. I'm sure the 2.0 patch will use much better Move implementation, but it was a little big of a disappointment for me overall. I didn't think it would be so hard to adjust. Maybe will a little more practice it'll feel better. All I know for sure is that I saw a definite potential for better FPS aiming from Move.

I dont do too good myself i've gone positive in one or two games even killing two opponents one after the other, but thats just my body mechanics not used to this style of gameplay yet. My kdr has went down but i actually enjoy it alot more. but at the moment ds3 players have the advantage. The only way something like this would work in a competitive online game is they can filter out the move players to compete with themselves then that would keep everyone on an even playing field.
I'm going to keep going at it until i train my body mechanics and when i'm good at it ill post some online gameplay. The problem is that the beta servers are open certain hours. I just need more practice. But i'm actually loving the move on mag. I find it more immersive

^Very nice!
The weird thing about it all is that it actually does feel better moving the reticule around the screen with the Move. I always assumed that would translate to easier headshots and quicker aiming without any problems, but moving the character while aiming is not as easy as I expected
I think with practice and the right amount of calibration, it would be awesome to use Move with this game. Maybe you could even become better than a DS3 player with it. I'm really curious to see what changes the 2.0 patch brings for move controls. As it is now, it feels like anything other than shooting from the hip is not going to work out for me. I've used the 4x scope on his SVER rifle since I bought the game, and it feels impossible to use with Move pre-2.0 patch.

The scope was broken in 1.04 and iron sights only worked as well as shooting from the hip if you reset everything to casual settings. The controls were completely bugged! I hope they improve the camera along with the bounding boxes, iron-sight, scope and allow us to set knifing to a button. *crosses fingers*
I'll be move patching my MAG as soon as possible. Hmmm - Only have a sixaxis for navcon... That'll do :D
Patch is UP!

Check out what's in it (HUGE list)
just tried it
its HARD, because its to sensitive
i need spend allot of time to configure it
Wow it's awesome now!
I spent some time making my own settings, and I'll still have to tweak it but the patch helped a lot.

Agree I can't play MAG without move the immersion factor just takes it to another level for me

Yeah, the patch definitely helped alot. I noticed most if not all of the starting guns for valor suck lol. The default sniper rifle I noticed the most between them and raven, where raven's sniper rifle seemed faster and more accurate. Also, calibration makes a difference! If you make small movements during the section when you have to hit the targets, the controller will be more sensetive, if you make more broad movements it will be slower.

I'm sure i'll like it. I'm gonna rent MAG this weekend and see if it works well with Move.
Some people complain but judging from my experience with the arcade shooters like "The Shoot" and "Time Crisis", the aiming is fun, fast and accurate. I guess it'll be the same for FPS. The only thing preventing me from buying MAG is the fact that the game is online only.

Yep, definitely. It was kind of this way before, but thank god the patch makes it so you can recalibrate any time you are messing with the settings. So you can find your perfect feel. For me I go just a little bit further past the targets, and I feel like it keeps my cursor on screen until I want to make the player turn.
When I started using it yesterday, I was getting good with it before I realized I hadn't even bought any items or set up my armory yet
I must have assumed my beta stuff carried over. But when I got all the stability upgrades for my rifle, I started destroying.

That's a crazy huge list of changes. Sounds awesome and thanks for the update guys. Looks like MAG is the game i need to get for Move. Still having problems changing my NAT type from 3 to 2 but that won't stop me. I need to get my first Move game.
Man yesterday I played atleast 6 hours straight. It's a Dang shame the mainstream already gave ip on this game were else can you get this type of gameplay online experience on this epic scale. Seriously I never liked playing sabotage with dualshock it always bore me I aleays went for demolition. But last night that's all I plays I'm polishing up my skills for the big leagues but even sabotage was fun last night for me
Move definitely makes this game more fun. I was just dominating this last game. I kept getting headshots so consistently. Move works so well once you find your settings and get a little practice in.
Good to here, I was tracking MAG's moves updates and specially user feedback. I guess is time to buy the game and use my move controller with a hardcore game.
I couldn't play it last night. =\
It keeps telling me to update to the latest version which I have. I turned off my PS3 and tried again but I keep getting the same message. Now I can't play the game at all..
