Sony developers are indicating the end of the distribution of development kits for the PSP. It looks like the PSP2 console rumor news is real.

Here is the message from a Spanish distribution, translated from Spanish to English:
PSP development and test units are being discontinued
SCEE will no longer be selling the psp development tool (dtp-t2000a) or testing tool (dtp-h2500a) past November, 15th. Please order in advance if you require these development units.
We will advise you when a new model becomes available.
It is not surprising that the second generation PSP will make it's appearance in 2011, since the Nintendo 3DS will be available in March. There are currently rumours about this all over the internet, but we will need to wait for Sony to officially announce it. The PSP2 is most likely not coming out before 2011.

so its full steanm ahead to the psp2 and maybe all previous projects shifting to the new platform.

Bout time.
Finally, and i hope its a powerhouse.
Cool, as soon as the PSP2 is announced without a UMD drive then I can scoop up a clearance PSP in case mine dies on me.

If the PSPgo is a bust without the UMD drive, why do you think the PSP2 will not have one?
Maybe I'll pick one up years from now. I would love to see current PSP games on PSN go way down in price when PSP2 comes out. I'll pick up tons of RPGs then.
Cartridges, Sony; cartridges.

Kaz has already stated the PSP2 will not be digital only, but there might be an optional digital only version.
2 things they need from launch:
1. ALL games MUST be on PSN
2. The Elder Travel Oblivion a launch title (I'm hoping Bethsoft switched to PSP2 and canned the PSP version, afterall they are working on 2 projects atm).

uh no. They cost more to develop and manufacture than anything.

They use less energy, take up less space, can hold more data, etc.

Mini-BD Roms.
I'm calling it. Makes the most sense given they're already available for various camcorders and they hold upwards of 5GB of data.
@Rapture
He's right though. They're extremely expensive to manufacture and thus total storage is restricted thanks to cost..
Optical media is cheaper.

Wow. Should be an exciting E3 2011 then huh?
I don't think the PSP2 will use UMD's... I mean, publishers and developers HATE them. lolll. Somekind of cartridge or SD card would be tops
If the PSPgo is a bust without the UMD drive, why do you think the PSP2 will not have one?
because it's not beyond the realm of reason Sony adopts a new storage medium that can offer more space and allows for cheaper production.
Backwards compatability via physical storage is more than welcome, I just don't see it likely.

Maybe for the manufacture but not for me. I'd personally prefer cartridges any day of the week and I'm sure you feel the same.

I thought discs held more data? TBH they could put the games on 4GB memory sticks they're pretty cheap now but I'd like a UMD drive so I can play my PSP games and they can make UMD 2.0 with 4 - 5GB storage.

Yep I would favor them due to their portability, durability and INSANE streaming abilities. You would have close to zip pop in and the device would have more memory to throw around (smaller framebuffers) for games.
If you can afford the cartridges its nothing but awesomeness all around.

1) Yeah
2) God, i remember a small aricle on that game all those years ago...
PSP2 also needs a decent sized internal hard drive for buying off the Store and they could sell the games on little memory sticks. C'mon, their really cheap now and i've seen 16GB ones. Mini-BD roms sound cool too.
Ok, just give us a good internal hard drive and some other method of playing games, be it Mini-BD roms or memory sticks.
Oh, and a second analogue stick.

I'd love to see a portable Fallout title.
Excellent. Now I await to see how the handheld will look like; It's Price; Games and services.

Mini BD hold 7gb/15gb dual layer which is 10x as much as the 3ds cartridge system. ive said why there wont be full psn support probbaly.

That would be very cool, as long as it has a high disc-read speed.

I bet sony will allow old psp games off PSN to be playable on the new psp.

My PSPs screen is already started to have funny affects, they almost look like little gunshot holes (Best way to explain em)
So I guess im about the same as you.
I hope the PSP2 is like the go-looks wise, but more powerful, has a UMD slot, and a second stick.

It probably will, it'll probably look exactly like a DS3 with the two analogs then the start/select just above them. I just hope they add L2/R2 for better controls for some games. L3/R3 and they'll have the DS3 completely mapped.

the GO is not that comfortable when holding it and laying down...also if it uses another disc based drive(mini BD) that means the battery life will be short again....i hope not tho

The go was market test.
Cartridges, Sony; cartridges.
No. Horrible idea. Look at the history of cartridges and it has been bad in terms of money and party relations. Unless there is some new tech out that makes it cheaper for the space allowed, then it most likely isn't the way forward. Also, to match the quality of something like a disc based streaming, the next console would have to be a beast in terms of ram.

LMAO the title of this thread makes no sense at all, Rumour and Official don't belong in the same sentence.
Also this doesn't mean anything, it could just mean that the devunits for the PSP are getting upgraded again.

Batman Arkham Asylum as a luanch title for PSP 2 :drool (A man can dream right)
But seriously aslong as the PSP2 gets a second analog and maybe the volume to be able to go louder than he original PSP, I'm a customer.
Beh.
PSP still has alot of life, with games like Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, God Of War: Ghost Of Sparta and Parasite Eve 3 comming it looks to me like everything is still in full force production.
I dropped my PSP-1000 again and this time the green power led didn't light up. Opened it up to have a look and caused damage to the screen PCB cable Arrgh!! lol. I can still use remote joy even with no screen display. I'll have to buy some parts online and make a mini-project out of it just for fun.
Looks like my beautiful lilac PSP-3000 will have to fill my gaming needs.

The PS2 was still getting a ton of games when the PS3 launched though (God of War 2, FF12 etc.)

If the PSPgo is a bust without the UMD drive, why do you think the PSP2 will not have one?
Because the PSPGo didn't fail because it didn't have a UMD drive. It failed because of high price and you have to rebuy all of your games.

The rumored games they are working on is Fallout iphone and Elder Scroll V/MMO. I do wish The Elder Scroll Travel was a PSP2 launch game though, that would be awesome.

The PSPgo was not aimed at prexisting PSP consumers. It wasn't an "upgrade" at all.
