When I first got my hands on The Fight: Lights Out at E3, I wasn't all that impressed. Playing the single-player mode during that demo, the punches didn't seem to have much feel behind them and combat against an AI opponent just didn't give me that intense, adrenaline-fueling sensation that a fighting game is supposed to give its players. On my second time around, however, my opinion on The Fight pulled a 180 with some hands-on time with the game's split-screen multiplayer.
Before getting started, my opponent and I picked our fighters, the arena, and got ready to let loose. Before we did though, she showed me a key element of the game that wasn't demonstrated to me at E3: dirty moves.
Dirty moves are maneuvers that stray from your typical punches and can deal some hefty damage to your opponent while holding down the triggers and performing motions that resemble said moves. A headbutt, swinging elbow, and the hammer (a downward elbow hitting the top of the opponents head) are just some of these attacks. The moves add a lot more depth, strategy, and a bit more frantic chaos to the game.
With the dirty moves now in my arsenal, we began to throw down. Dodging, blocking, and frantic arm-waving followed. Having another player responding properly and quickly made the game feel much more realistic than what I had experienced in E3. The animations for both fighters when it came to taking and throwing punches also seemed like they had much more weight behind them than before. They were fully reacting to the force of the blows, not just slightly wincing. The bout gave me that adrenaline-fueling fun I was searching so hard for a few months prior.
After a long and intense battle, my fighter was unfortunately knocked to the ground. I had been defeated, but I left the demo with a much more positive feeling regarding The Fight: Lights Out than I previously had. Afterward I was told that the game will have not just split-screen multiplayer action, but online as well; players will be able to beat each other up and talk smack both over the internet or within the same room. While The Fight may have first shown me what looked to be a lackluster single-player mode, the multiplayer component appears to offer a lot more fun and excitement. The game will be released for the PlayStation 3 on October 28.

Some positives about multiplayer. Again no real mention of lag or whether 1:1. I so want this game to be good!

I hope it delivers ! this one is on my radar.

I would say that the detection is 1:1, but the hit boxes and animations are going to be scripted.

If this is the case then as long as there are numerous hit boxes and scripted animations are we going to be able to tell the difference?

I think you'll be able to tell the difference at some point. Right off, it probably won't be so obvious. I don't think it will hamper the entertainment value of it though. I'm guessing here, but I'll know more once I get my hands on it.

Oct 28th if you live in north america. I think Nov 5th is for Europe, Australia and NZ.

Ok, so apparently this game is supposed to be out today. I was pretty hyped for this after GDC but I gotta be honest, the complete lack of any real info or reviews leading up to it's release makes me 100% nervous of the quality of this game.

I think today is the US release date but still the lack of any reviews is worrying. May have to cancel my UK preorder if nothing materialises soon.

If someone buys it post some info. I will be picking it up on the 5th.

Last week Sony dropped off the final version of The Fight, and although the review was meant to go live this week, I’ve a confession to make: I’ve barely made it past the first rung of opponents and the pyramid of brawlers and gritty locations goes way beyond what I’ve managed to work through. Why? Because I’m having so much fun smacking the living daylights out of the first couple of enemies.
It’s delicious, in a visceral, bloody kind of way. Your arms in the game, mapped 1:1 with the Move controllers (you can play The Fight with one controller and a Dual Shock, but it’s not nearly as good), are a natural extension of your own, and your on-screen fighter reacts precisely as you’d expect him to do when throwing the punches. There’s no silly combos here, whatever you can do with your own body your avatar does.
Well, that’s not strictly true: there’s a button to move (it’s the big Move button) and there’s another couple of things to remember (like holding the trigger and moving up, down does a slower, more powerful attack) but for the most part you’ll feel like you’re in the game more than, perhaps, any other game ever made. And what’s more, you’ll tire, quickly, my arms are still aching from the weekend’s attempts at man-on-man warfare.
The game starts with a lengthy tutorial section before letting you loose on the single player mode, but it’s worth mentioning that there’s some issues with the calibration. You need to do one too many into-the-camera gestures when starting the game, and in between each fight you’ll need to reset the Moves by stretching out and then assuming the guard position, it seems a bit of a shame but given that you’re likely to move your feet mid fight it’s only fair to assume that the game will get mixed up. The head tracking, which apparently needs blistering sunshine the likes of which Scotland can’t afford, didn’t work for me at all.
The graphics are nice though: as noisy and dank as you’d expect but also packed with character, and although there’s a distinct lack of colour there’s plenty of detail too. EA’s Fight Night looks better overall, but the style that Sony have gone for with The Fight works well. The voiceover work is on the wrong side of cheesy, sadly, but the various punches, blows and cuts sound great against the rumble of the baying crowd in the background.
And then there’s Danny Trejo, a personal acting hero of mine and perfectly pitched in the game’s dark designs. He’s clearly having fun, too, and when he brings up two glowing Move controllers whilst grunting about blocking it’s hard not to laugh. But The Fight doesn’t have a sense of humour, this is a serious, no-holds barred attempt to show the world just what the PS3 can do with two Move controllers, and in that respect at least, it’s a success.
Review soon.

Erm.....so they love it but they can't write a review, what's that all about? Could you see them saying I loved UC2 so I didn't write a review WTF!

No demo has been announced yet, but its still possible. It will be the same price as every other Move title, 40 USD

I can't believe a review of this hasn't been posted yet given it is released tomorrow in the states I believe. This is normally a sign that the game stinks.

Do it man, no skin off our noses.
The reason they are giving good prices is because the demand is through the roof.

crosspjc

ONQ is correct:

If you're wondering how come the fighting game (http://www.qj.net/qjnet/playstation-3/the-fight-lights-out-delayed-to-november.html#) from Sony for the Move, The Fight: Lights Out, weren't included in our On Shelves list this week, that's obviously because it's not coming out this week. The game's been delayed, but thanks to GameStop, we now know it's not going to be that long of a wait.

The game was originally set for an October 26 release, but due to undisclosed reasons, it's not going to happen. Instead, the game will be shipping out on November 9, 2010. That's just a little over a week from now so it's not as unbearable, really. Sony's yet to give out any official word on it however, but it's good to have something to look forward to.

FW 3.5 inclussion anyone?

I went to preorder Monday but I ended up paying for it in full,$39 + tax. Damnit that they pushed it back, I bet it is to put a demo up on psn.

Actually, they gave it a 4.2, saying it was worse than FaceBreaker, which got a 4.5.

wow, looks like sony is really dropping the ball here, hate to say it. They had an OK launch lineup. But I was thinking their second coming of games(the shoot, light out, time crisis) were going to shine. But wow, just wow. Maybe sony shouldve waited. Love sony to death, but who the hell makes these decisions? I can run their gaming division, and make them tons of money.

Hmm, I'd like to try it for myself, something tells me that maybe they didn't calibrate it correctly. It could be as bad as they say though, I just can't see them releasing a game that's as broken as they make it out to be. Every other Move title has rock solid calibration and in this you can't move your feet? That sounds fishy to me. This guy has only done 18 reviews and under multiplayer it says TBA even though local and online multiplayer is confirmed, nowgamer isn't recognized by metacritic either and there are no other reviews out.

I think, if nothing else, I'll wait for more reviews. I mean judging from the previews, this game is far better than what this review is saying and those are older builds (I would think).
