I've no idea, but you could pray at a shrine to one of the nine eight divines.
No freezes here yet.

Been playing this for 14 hours now. VERY rare for me to get this engrossed in a game but I love the Elder Scrolls. (Daggerfall was my first)
Anyways, people in Skyrim tell me I look pale and ask if I'm sick. My worry after finding a dungeon with vampires is, that I slowly might be turning into a vampire. I'd hate that 'cause that state doesn't suite my play style.
General stats say that I've contracted two diseases. I have no idea what the other one would be if the first one is vampirism. Now, I have consumed a potion of cure disease but people still tell me I look pale. Is there a way to do a medical or something to get to know what I potentially might have? Anyone?
You could have contracted a disease from a spider earlier on in the game. That's what happened to a friend of mine.

Picked it up from Redbox tonight. I'm having a blast playing it! :p
Seriously, i have NEVER been into a game s much as i am right now except from GTA SA.
I still have not come to grips with the amount of content packed into this game.
Just incredible
This HAS TO WIN GOTY IMO, no game deserves it more. I have hardly ran into any bugs( except sometimes skeletons and other things start to move when i walk over them)

I'm on the quest "THE WAY OF THE VOICE".
I had some weird glitch when it tried to pick a item up...
Earned 5 trophies so far without even trying!

One thing that needs to be fixed are the companions. Why can't they ride with me on my horse or cant they have one of their own. Damn I hate how I need to constantly slow down for them as I traverse the game world. This needs to be fixed. this is my ONLY gripe with the game. I hope they keep patching the game to make it perfect, because its SOOOOO close to gaming nirvana it really could be the PERFECT game should the devs work on patching the minor issues with this game.

I was on my way to that same quest until a dragon came on my way and I could not defeat him/her. So I am going back to other quests until I beef my character and get a companion to come with me :)

So what is the point in all of the books that you find? Not the spell books, but just the regular ones. I have some many it's ridiculous but I don't know if I need them or not.
Got a picture of my epic Orc battlemage. Just fashioned the armor you see. I fucking love this game.

You read them of course! They actually contain stories, information, and narratives. Collect them for a personal library or sell them once you're done.

Only issue I got is noone will tell me where to cure my disease, everyone is quick to tell me I look sick though. Also not a fan of some places having white texted chests, so I pick them.. loot whats inside (never says "steal") but it turns out I was stealing.
I got cornered by three thugs, took me a few tries to get by em (Small place, 3 people.. yeah)
I am at
beat first scripted dragon
and wondering cause I am taking main quest slow should I just continue it till a certain act or do whatever. I am just afraid I will miss something.
I've opted to do "Whatever", most of the misc quest I've found I need to go across the map or kill something I cant kill (Mammoth)
How you zoom out in 3rd person?
R3 changes from First Person, to Third Person
Finally I am magick one hand sword other, this pretty much means I can not block an attack right?
Never tried, but probably cant. I've seem to opted for two handers.
All things I am PS3.

Go to the menu, go to magic, go to the active effects or whatever, should say in red. At least for me thats where it is, I've contracted the "Rockjoint" disease that lowers my melee 25%.
I still didn't fully understand the concept of leveling up a skill/ability. Do you choose a play style and go for its related skills? For example I'd like to have a bow/crossbows as my weapon of choice, am I going to spend all my skill points on archery and whatever is related to that skill, and completely ignore irrelevant skills like 2-handed weapons?
Besides, is it possible to max everything in one playthrough?

Doubt its possible to max everything, but it more or less depends if you want to be great in one skill - or be okay in a bunch.
I seem to pump most of my skills into two-handers, put one or two into some other skills though. Like Lockpicking.

Yeah, I'm really indecisive when it comes to deciding what to put my skill points into. I can never decide if it's better to focus primarily on one thing, or if I should be spreading the love around several skills. This time around I think I'm focusing on heavy armor and two handed weapons. I'll probably experiment with spreading the love more in the future, though.

Go to any city and pray at the temple to cure all. Alternativly, talos statue in white run for exaple does the same thing? It might be a scripted response cus I get that too and have no disease (cept werewolf, which is epic btw)
the alchemy shop in solitude actually suggested a particular potionto me, but I interpreted it as her trying to sell me something lol, really nice touch. In other news, buying a house is so much more afordable. White run house was 5k with roughly 1k to decorate it. Huge improvement

Some you can read to increase skills. Others give you a history of something in skyrim. Some are just pointless.
I have a good 12hrs in to the game now and I have yet to freeze or lock up. Someone said something about the game freezing for 10s every 20mins or so but I have yet to come across anything like that.
In settings you can set the game to auto save. Its set to 15min by default. This could freeze the game. That's all i can think it could be.

Has anyone married their housecarl yet? Might do it later today.
Wonder if you can marry more than one or more than once
Ahh, I accidentally killed Alvor in Riverwood... well I killed a chicken and then the owner got mad and tried to kill me so I had to kill him really, and then Alvor and his wife weren't happy and tried to kill me so I had to kill them. Now I have no idea what to do for the main quest?
Great and now I get attacked by guards whenever I'm in a city/village. Any way of ridding myself of that, like paying a bounty or something? Playing hundreds of hours without being able to go into a city might get annoying xD

I've been building my character around one handed weapon with shield and archery.
You can definitely go pure mage. There's a fantastic balance between the different play styles.
My Orc is a jack of all trades. I'm juggling a superior Forsworn Bow, combination of fire and lighting, and an enchanted Nord Halbert. I'm decked out in steel and riveted armor.
What is everyone weapon of choice or play style, and what skills/perks are they planning on ranking up?
Oh and can one go pure mage?
I'm goin one handed weapon with magic in the other. Have heals and destruction spells hot keyed. One dragon attacked in whiterun. It was awesome was flying from building to building breathing fire everywhere. Killed on of the companions and some randow villager though.

Using destruction spells on my left hand (typically flames), with the frost-enchanted sword from Bleak Falls Barrows in my right hand. Together they make it fairly easy to kite things around - if they somehow get into melee range before I melt them, I can use the sword to slow them down a little bit and get back out of range.
Was wearing heavy armor early on, but I hiked up to the College at Winterhold and the starting gear was too nice to pass up, even if it provides little protection. So I guess I'm a melee mage?
Been putting my perks thus far into destruction and one-handed. Been afraid to commit any perks to armor until I finally settle on what I want to wear.
Well you should've thought about all that when you were killing them.
Didn't really have a choice, I tried letting them at it but I just died and it reloaded to the same spot. All over a friggin' chicken... how was I supposed to know people would kill over a chicken? :D
Do you have any weapons out? If so, try putting them away; see if being less aggressive helps.

Just saw 3 horses run from their stables to attack a downed dragon. They killed it.
I've officially seen it all.
My best battle has to be when i was ambushed by two sabre teeth tigers, 1 wolf, 1 of those witch things that grow green and spray you wtih leaves and two frost spiders.
Epic battle, not sure how i survived. I think the spiders started to attack the tigers as well.
Ive killed three dragons now :D.
Either way, YOU SHOULD GET A COMPANION/ someone who joins you. Makes the game SO much easier/ fairer and fun, without lidya i would have died at least over 10 times know, really really effective. Plus you can store equipment on them.

I witnessed a dragon vs mammoth battle today.
It was epic.
Dragon battles inside cities are awesome. The fly around a land on rooftops spitting fire or ice or something. Plus everybody pitches in to kill it. I've killed 9 dragons so far, 3 in cities (whiterun, solitude, riverwood). Love the dragon encounters I've had fun killing each one
Big spoiler about lore
so it turns out alduin is actually the nordic version of akotosh. In their variation of the myth, alduin still creates the world but does so by destroying the previous one.
Dunno if you guys have confirmed this yet but are the Dark Brotherhood still in it? Also, what's the stealth like? Is it very similar to Oblivion? I loved playing a sneaky character in that but somehow I don't think sneaking around will help against dragons...

I can confirm that they're indeed in Skyrim. Just was invited into their Sanctuary after finishing a mission and taking a nap. Problem is: I can't seem to get to the sanctuary without getting my character killed by some elves in armor and shooting magic at me. I'm probably low leveled or something =/.

Only played up where you are escaping from the dragon attack.
What is the best class if i wanna do magic with a bit of hand to hand combat?

any kind of elf is good, but you really build anything the way you want. all you get is a class specific ability. so do what you want, it rocks. i'm a destruction, heavy armor wearing, sneaky nord who 2 hands shit lol
Curious question for those that know, Is every container in your house safe?
Due to how lame chests are (Read: No organizing) I want to use my cupboards, etc. for food, dressers for apparel, etc. but not sure if the stuff in it will disappear. I tried to test it, the stuff stayed.. but it seems stuff tends to stay for awhile anywhere. So I'm really unsure if its safe or not, lol.
So right now I got a chest with pretty much everything I dont directly need at the moment so I can store 200 or so lbs of crap.
Also can Lydia not heal herself.. at all? She died on me once, caused me to have to load a game 20 mins or so back, I thought they only got knocked out not outright killed. x_x

Give Lydia potions and she can heal herself.
Also, she's an amazing body guard given that she doesn't just "fall over and die" she gets on the ground for a bit and then enemies ignore her. Basically, barring an accident, she cannot die.

I accidently killed her. But the Jarl was kind enough to give me 300gold and a few of her possessions.
No, she can definitely die. I've seen people discussing it over on Gamefaqs.
From what I've read, you have to kill her. When she reaches 0, she'll kneel down, enemies will ignore her (and even if they hit her, it won't kill her), and she'll slowly regain HP.
The only way she can die at this point is if you hit her by mistake, which doesn't seem that hard to do in the chaos of battle.
Ok for leveling if we cap out at 50 and no more perks how many "trees" can we master? I want to do one hand, destruction, heavy armor, sneak, and smithing but no clue if I can.
The hype has me. Heard (mostly) great things about Skyrim and have decided to pick up a copy myself. Roll on tomorrow evening.

From what I understand, after 50 you can still increase your skills up until you reach a "mathematical" (direct quote) level of 70...
Maybe they keep on leveling but you don't have anymore perks and the level remains at 50 regardless of the skill progress ..?
The game is EPIC in all regards. Literally epic. I love it !!! The atmosphere is something that Peter Jackson would envy.

Killed my first Dragon last night around Whiterun. Holy shnikees. What an awesome game. Obtained my first shout as well. This game is just....insane. The subtle fixes and improvements over Oblivion just keep building up in my eyes. It's like they took out all of the monotonous and lame things from oblivion and replaced them with cool stuff. I'm super glad weapons/armor don't wear down this time around. That used to piss me off something awful in the last installment. The way the NPC's interact with you is just all around better. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Building a rogue. Putting perks mostly into sneak, archery, and some lockpicking, pickpocketing, and one-handed.
Bow sneak attack for x3 damage at range and when they get close, break out the frost axe/dagger dual wielding combo. So much damage.
There's so much content to be found just running around in the open world. Not even counting the randomly generated quests.
Anyone know where Lydia goes after you tell her to leave? I had her as a companion when I joined the Companions and when I went for my trial, she got replaced and now I cant find her. I thought she would have just gone back to Dragonsreach, but couldn't find her.

Man I love this game so much, played it way toooooo much over the weekend.
Mod question????? I would love to see everyones wild stories from this game should we keep that here or start a new thread?
two quick stories of fun for me.......
West of Whiterun i was getting ready to start a dungeon when I hear the scream of a dragon, and I'm like ok, I deal with this guy first and then hit the dungeon. So I start to hone in on him and i see that he is actually fighting someone else. So I get closer to help who is fighting and as i get close i see a giant deliver the killing blow to a dragon, so I quickly put away my weapons and took the long way around the giant and reaped the awards from a dragon i didn't kill.
fast traveled to Morthal for a side quest and when it loaded up the town was being attacked by 2 dragons. So I got my butt in gear and did lots of fighting, luckily for me though the town is small enough that there weren't good places to land to get to me so I archered down 2 dragons with the help of some town folk.
too crazy, I can't wait to see what happens next.
Yeah, biggest tip for dragon fights so far, esp early game is to lure the dragon into fighting something else. Best choices so far are giants that I've found. With any luck, you get the dragon and giant low enough to down yourself.
Got married. It is really lack lustering. No bumping uglies, no kids, was expecting something like Fable but oh well maybe some PC modders when I get GOTY for my pc.

After reading that I LOLed.
But then I read this......
The value of life in Tamriel is slightly skewed, according to the Imperial Legion; I learned this the hard way while playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Trekking through the world, I stumbled upon a brood of chickens. Due to my proclivity for collecting everything laying about the province of Skyrim, I slayed one of the mighty beasts and removed its raw meat for a stew concoction I had in mind.
Killing that chicken proved to be a grievous error.
The bounty for killing a chicken in Skyrim is 5 pieces of gold. This is a simple payment to make, unless you're like me and didn't realize the price was placed on your head. Pushing forward, past the trail from Riverwood to Whiterun, I came across a band of roving Imperial Legion soldiers. The group walked the dark streets between the two towns to ensure they provided safe passage. Little did they or I know that the death of one small delicious animal would ruin the lives of generations to come.
Read the rest of the story here:

While Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls and Bethesda game in general and I enjoyed the heck out of it (putting in more hours in one playthrough than any game I've ever played), I don't think I have five hours of playtime in Skyrim yet but I'm having a blast. Bethesda really knows how to wove together an altogether wonderful role playing experience. Everything in this game just screams quality, and is just such a step up from Oblivion as to leave one wonderstruck.

I saw her killed yesterday.
I don't know if it was a glitch, but I was in a corner sniping when she dropped into the kneeling position, and for whatever reason the enemies continued to attack her.
When I went over to her to see if she was going to revive, she was a searchable corpse and I could loot her default gear.

this game is so awesome, i have already miss 4 days of work. it's good to work from home.
For anyone who got the vampire disease this a good way to get rid of the disease
If you rid the disease early on before the onset of symptoms, then a simple Cure Disease will do the trick. At later stages, however, it is still possible to cure yourself by resorting to Lycanthropy or doing the quest Rising at Dawn.
Make your way to Falkreath. Once there, speak to Valga Vinicia at the Dead Man's Drink and ask about any rumors going around. She will tell you that Falion in Morthal studies vampires. Speak to him and he will tell you that, in order to perform the ritual, a black soul gem must be filled. To get the black soul gem you need to speak to Falion again and he will offer to sell it to you.

Could you have gotten sick early on? From some encounter? You could very well be sick / diseased, as most people don't say anything if you are not. You can check in your Magic menu, under effects, and if anything appears red then you are indeed suffering from some ailment.
You can fix this in different ways, one of which is worshiping at a shrine. Whiterun, for instance, has one by the massive tree. Or go buy some potions. Beware, there is a lady running an alchemy shop, I believe in the same town, that will comment on your appearance in her cunning attempts at getting you to buy something! LOL!

Experienced a pretty significant glitch. In the quest "compelling tribute" after jumping the caravan, youare supposed to talk to ralof to finish it. But he just stands there like a derp. Some googling revealed it's a common problem and a ton of people can't complete this quest. I fell in love with the civil war questline so they need to patch this asap so I can see what happens

Its just amazing, not only as a complete package being able to explore everywhere. But there is just so many little things; its pretty much improved in every way over Oblivion, got rid of some unnecessary features and skills, and being able to level up as you lay in your own style picking perks as you go. Having the world map dynamic and rendered, not having to worry about repairing armour and weapons every 3 minutes. I could go on

I haven't seen that, but I wandered into a random Dwemer Ruin and found ports on the walls that look almost exactly like the Little Sister holes from Bioshock, only instead of little girls coming out some really nasty robot type enemies come out from them.
I say really nasty, they're probably very easy to beat, I just had no business being in that ruin at only level 5.

Sigh no no no.
That's not what I mean. I'm not saying Lydia CANNOT die, what I'm saying is she will get down and "yield" and the enemies will turn their attention AWAY from her and back to you.
Thus the only real way she can die at that point is by accident (something smacking her) or some sort of AOE magic that hits her. Enemies will not target her after she has yielded, this includes animals\dragons etc.
Also, my smithing is now level 92. I got it that high in only an hour's time. Smithing exploits ftw.

It's a matter of where you go. I've apparently wandered off into a world of trouble where I'm at. At 5th level I started climbing a mountain because it seemed a faster way to get to my destination than going around, came over a crest and found a Dwemer Ruin. I ventured inside and after getting a few rooms in I realized that I was in over my head. I backtracked and went back out.
Back outside I saw a small valley and then another rise with my destination being beyond that. On the way down the valley I've run across two ice wolves and an ice wraith. The wolves are definitely not the woodland type, they can kill me with about 3 hits, even when I'm in heavy armor. The ice wraith only takes 2 hits to kill me.
I stopped there and now have to decide if I want to try to find a way around, or just backtrack all the way back down the mountain and take the much safer road.
So the type of wild animals you see depends largely where you are in the world.

I'm sure this is how it is supposed to work, but twice now in as many days enemies have killed her in my game.
Both times involved multiple enemies while I was a fair distance away from her.
I'm guessing that when fighting multiple enemies, she can be stuck down by one at the same time the other launches into its attack routine, thus bypassing her anti-aggro to kill her.

No problem. It just now happened to me after playing for about 2hrs. I went back to the XMB and loaded the game back up and it is fine now. No need to reboot the PS3. The cache clears when you go back to XMB.
Wish towns despawned dead things, I had a dragon attack me in a town and I kicked its ass.. now everytime I enter the place after I killed it lags like a bitch for awhile. Seems the extra load to animate the bones (They seem to jump from spot to spot at the entrence >_>) while autosaving slows the framerate to a crawl for a bit.
Not bad though, bugwise, for a bethesda game

Same here. 32 hours in, save file of about 8 mb. Went to Whiterun last night and for the first time, the lag was so bad it was unplayable. Then realized that I had been playing for 10 hours straight (well, I took a couple short breaks, but the PS3 didn't). Saved the game, turned the system off and let it sit for an hour or so. Turned it back on and everything was back to normal.
I've also read that if you sit inside your house (or some small building where you won't get in trouble for trespassing), and wait for chunks of 24 hours, until the next month comes up....the save file is then much smaller. Turns out that it takes a month for bodies, items, etc around the world to despawn and reset. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it may be worth a shot if it provides any kind of improvement.
So to the thiefs out there did you go smithing for daedric daggers or the glass ones? I know glass ones weigh less, but deadric probably better dps and for armor you get nightingale and dark brother hood so no worries there.

Agreed. Fun, but I don't see myself using it too much. Never know though. Gotta say though, this game is starting to get crrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzyyy. Seriously, this game is such an improvement over Oblivion. All the stupid shit has either been removed, corrected or streamlined.

I just want to make sweet passionate love to this game.
I hope that save bug, does not happen to me. It seems that when the save file reaches a certain size, it can bog down the game, and/or even make it unplayable, as per this thread at Bethesda Softworks forum:
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1260142-gamesave-size-limit-lag-and-no-interaction-of-npcs/
Many people experienced this same problem with their other games, but I never experienced it with Oblivion or Fallout.
I just want to make sweet passionate love to this game.
I would like to make sweet passionte love in this game but they dont have it. Odd to not put something that simple in.
Yeah my save is 10 megs per and game slows down usually after 4 hours. I reset system and good to go tho sometimes heat is a factor with the system.
I just want to make sweet passionate love to this game.
Hey, what are you doing to the middle of your disc!?
Ooft! I never knew it could fit in there!
Now I just feel bad for you.

I am Breton. One hand mace, magick other, heavy armor and I sneak around hence why I call my character the Sneaking Juggernaut.

im a nord warrior not very far into the game just lvl 5 need some tips
im at the part called way of the voice when you defeat your first dragon and are sent up into the moutains to speak with the greybeards to learn how to use your mysterious dragonborn powers
how in the hell do you kick the **** outta that ice/snow troll at the top of hrothgar
i hit it with my double-sided steel axe like twice (it only took like 25% of its health away) and by the time i went to swing again it just swung a left hook right hook uppercut with his long claws and killed the **** outta me that troll is hella and to boot they send you back to the village at the bottom of the mountain you gotta climb those 7000 steps
what did you do to defeat the troll
No but I can tell you there really is no wrong playstyle.
I can not think of any other game that lets me be a Sneaking Juggernaut. I wear heavy armor, one hand and magick, and sneak up on enemy's literally right in front of their face and sneak attack. I did not complete Thieves guild quest yet cause I will lose skeleton key, so I can pic locks. The ability to play the way you want is amazing. Even arrows weigh nothing so you can easily carry a ton to be an archer.
I see, so I don't need to look up videos of thief/warrior/mage gameplay before deciding? I get very sensitive in these matters. I don't know why I'm treating the game as an MMORPG, lol.

Nord, favorite weapon is mah fist so far only use sword for real threat. Haven't done that many quest yet.
Just got done kicking a violin playing sissy for harassing some cabbage selling lady. After I kicked his ass I turn and saw this female wearing armor keep looking at me so I came over and had a chat. She though she was a warrior so I challenged her for 100 gold. After 1 minute I showed her why Skyrim women belong in the kitchen.
man I like Skyrim.
Eltimas, you just play. Your character grows and adapts to exactly your playstyle, so don't worry about it.

My character also looks like Maximus from Gladiator. :snicker

The housecarl you get given in Whiterun ended up being my sacrificial pawn when I made it to the top of the 7000 Steps. They all have a use.
BTW Funeralfog, your Vault boy avatars are awesome :D

If you refuse to lower the difficulty (which I applaud, we all love a good challenge) then sneak attack him with a bow then burn his ass. Don't be afraid to run away or utilize the environment to your advantage. If you happen to have a paralyze spell/scroll then use it to knock him off of the mountain
I just died 4 times in my first encounter with the giant spider. How much do I suck?
I've never had any trouble from the giant spiders. I think I died once from them, and form that point on I just backpedaled while burning them.

You suck a lot lol just kidding, the game has been a learning curve for me as I have never played any of the Elder Scrolls games so I was dying often at the start of the game just getting used to things and trying different play styles.

This was my first TES game as well, while I did play and watch the antics of my friend play it over at his house a year or so ago(TES IV) It just didn't look like something I would really get into, I was not even going to get Skyrim....However I got on the band wagon when the yogscast did some playing of it....made me really want the game after that. I have been one shotted by a small frost spider once, I even had full life!
I read that already Rapture, it was a good little read and had some nice humor to it.
I need to stop reading about this game, it's making me really, really want to buy it. I've drawn up a list of pros and cons for this:
Pros:
Get to play Skyrim (which is clearly badass)
Cons:
Fail my degree
Still needs a bit of work, I think...

I tried to get into Oblivion, and it was pretty cool, but there was some serious bullshit with that game. A lot of it has been addressed or removed with TESV. I do like the new leveling system and all that it entails, even with the little issues. Like if you are a full blown thief (stealth, pickpocket, lockpicking) and you can be maxed out with those but have little to no combat skills, meaning you could get creamed in a simple confrontation ... but that's what I like about it. Take a little time off from that and pump that angle up. That's the beauty. And the changing of the Stone's is a nice touch. Essentially just create your protagonist and take it from there. And the significantly varied scenery and locations is a breath of fresh air.
Skyrim really is a masterfully created experience. A perfect title to pull me from my gaming lull. :snicker
Freeze again? Apart from the rage for losing my progress, I'm now concerned it might break my PS3 if this keeps on going. This is why I hate open world games, so fucking buggy and glitchy.

I saw you mention another one, is this just the second?
I've only had two, and they've come after leeeeeeeeeeengthy play sessions. I've seen a couple bugs, but nothing too drastic. Have yet to run into this save game bug, and something I just read today was that this was an issue with Fallout 3?! Similar issue, similar circumstances? Strange.

1. Upgrade sneak skill, get "Assassin's Blade" perk.
2. Kill Astrid\complete Dark Brotherhood get Blade of Woe.
3. Get (Ancient) Brotherhood Gauntlets.
4. Sneak up to Giant or Mammoth.
5. Do well in excess of 600 damage in one shot. One hit kill that is 30x dmg.
6. "Take that you @#$%@#!"
Feels good.
The dmg I do is far more than that though with all things factored.
Completely Average

You can get Steel Smithing at level 20. It's required for any further smithing perks.
Bought a nice horse last night for 1000 gp, in Solitude, and was not interested at first, but after riding around, the horse is the best VG horse ever. So much fun to go from place to place on it. I like caring for my horse, in where I leave it, and make sure no one harms it.
Got caught in a blizzard also, and was the best blizzard I have ever seen in game. Graphics are beautiful all around in this game. Going through the forest was awesome.

I have so much to do it's amazing, this game is GOTY for me personally. Killed a giant earlier, they are not so bad when you have 20% regen on shouts and use an ice one that freezes them solid!
Giant:Frozen and falls over

Managed to get some time with Skyrim last night. The first I've played since receiving it last Monday. Life is sad. Anyway, within 2 hours the things that happened to me were:
Got run over by a Mammoth. Twice.
One-shotted by a Snow Troll. Ran away from another.
Set on fire by a group of Bandits.
Attacked by a very sad ghost who apologised as he tried to kill me as he 'couldn't help it'. Felt bad for him.
Electrocuted by a Mage.
Frozen (I think) to death by a corpse who broke out of his coffin to say hello.
Stole some beer for a drunk, from a nice Tavern lady.
Slagged by a Soldier for having an Iron sword. Asked me if I was using it to kill Butterflies. Promptly found a new weapon...
Ran like f*ck when I came face to face with a Mountain Lion. Trying to fight it was quickly found to be a bad idea.
Lots of stuff. Had a blast, too. Clearly, Skyrim is a wonder place to visit; where the people are very friendly.

You can buy a house in a town, though you need to gain the Jarl's trust. You could sell the items too or start to increase your fatigue upon level ups, which raises your carrying weight.

Holy .....I can own a house? Wow.
Is there a way I can store my gear? I'm having trouble with my carry weight.
After finishing a part of the main quest (it's early in the game), you'll be able to buy a house in Whiterun for 5000 gold. That's really the best way, as the house is full of containers that you can safely leave stuff in.
Another (free) option is to trek up to Winterhold and join the college - you'll be assigned a room in the apprentice quarters, that has some storage. It was safe for me, but I have read that some people have had items disappear from their quarters, so if you go that route, there may be a slight risk involved.
I'd make it a top priority to save up the gold and get the house. Once you start killing off dragons, their bones/scales are worth holding onto (make awesome armor later on), but they're heavy as hell - you'll need a safe place to keep them.
