Does race affect the story? Khajiit have bad reputation for smuggling and thievery, so I wonder if I'd have had hard time in villages as a Khajiit?

There's a lot of racism in this game, so yes, it will affect how people of other races treat you. Other than that, I don't know if there are any more serious effects. I doubt it.

If you want to play it safe, Nords are generally well-liked by all the other NPCs in the game. Plus you have 50% frost resistance, which makes fights against frost-breathing dragons a joke.

What house(s) do you own and think is the best?

I own houses in whiterun and winterhelm. The one in winterhelm is huge and has a cool armory where you can display things. Its currently the one I live in. I almost have enough for solitude and will move there if it looks nicer, but I like winterhelms look better than solitude so probably not.

For gold I just loot and sell loot and sell. Made bout 100k so far that way. This also let's you level up combat since your essentially going into dungeons all the time. Smithing can also be profitable if your high enough. Least orcish. Leveling up other thingss just depends on what you want. My character uses 1 hand weapon with heals on the other hand so I level up one handed, heavy armor and restoration all at once. Smithing is easy, just buy iron and make daggers, you can lvl up enchanting at the same time by buying petty soul gems and and enchanting those daggers. Enchanted stuff is worth more too so a few thousand gold will allow you to level up a bunch. I don't know about sneak, since my character is a brute. Conjuration you can summon swords outside a fort area as long as you have a red dot.

Got married today. Ysolda, the Whiterun merchant. Had a nice little ceremony in Riften.

Told her to move in with me, she goes on back to Whiterun without me. I start the long journey back to Whiterun. I get home, go into the house to see my wife there for the first time. She's upstairs, I go up....and Lydia is lying naked, dead on the floor in the guest room. She had died, oh, about 35 hours ago, left fully clothed in a dungeon to rest forever.

I turn around and look to my new wife for an explanation, and all I get is a blank stare and a "Hello, love." I know this is just a hilariously-timed glitch, but I'm going to take it as sign that my new wife has some jealousy issues when it comes to me and my other female companions.

Not sure what to do next. Tuck the body under the bed or into a corner (since it won't go away, and I can't take it outside), and enjoy the rest of my married life, sleeping with one eye open? Or kill Ysolda just to be safe, and start a collection of naked dead women in my home?

They don't handle terrain well, and after they swing and miss (creating the cloud of dust) it stuns them for a moment.

They are actually quite easy to defeat, as long as you recognize you can't let them hit you.

it goes by quantity made not quality. so the best way/cheapest way is to make iron daggers because it takes only one iron ignot and one leather strap. you can easily max out simithing in about 45 min by traveling to each blacksmith, buying all the ingots and straps and selling the daggers back. Use the lover stone which grants 15% exp. bonus. because you are offsetting the cost of the materials with selling the finished product, a few thousand gold is more than enough.

If you don't mind farming the soul gems, enchanting the daggers after you make them is a great idea. Not only do you power level another skill, but the right enchantment can take an iron dagger that sells for 10 gold and make it worth 300-600...you actually end up turning a large profit on all of the ignots and leather you're buying.

I was impressed by my first dragon fight. Still find them to be pretty fun.

The fights themselves aren't as difficult as I would have thought. It's the randomness of the encounters that makes it fun to me. Out walking in the world doing god knows what, and all of a sudden the controller vibrates, the music changes, and I can't help but get excited.

Also, when one is attacking a town, it downright scares me. With the exception of a few non-killable NPCs, if a dragon kills them, they're dead. Forever. All the sidequests, gone. Potential future spouses, gone. That makes it imperative to me that I draw it's attention, kill it, and save the rest of the town.

Yeah, you could also just load the save file again if it wipes out a village...but I don't do that.

This.
Leveling gets a great bump from skill levels and this is a great way to kill 3 birds with one stone. Smithing, enchanting and speech when selling back. You get a bigger speech hit with the more valuable exchanged item, and you want to do them one by one. Which is easier when you start doing the different enchantments, as opposed to having 50 regular iron daggers. :snicker

Well, I've managed to get two companions and a horse killed in one night.

Lydia was the worst. While carrying many items for me, she got killed in the explosion from a fireball that was aimed at me by a mage that had been reanimating the dead. Well, as soon as shye died the mage reanimated her, and when I killed the mage she simply disappeared, so I couldn't recover any of the items she had.

Next to go was the horse. Poor little horse just got too close to the Ice Wraiths. All 4 of them. BTW, horses can slide a LONG way down a mountian when they die.

And last to go was the annoying dog. Not sure how I feel about his demise. Couldn't last through the final boss in Red Eagle Sword quest. Fortunately, I had expected him to not make it very long when I brought him along, so I didn't give him any of my equipment to carry.

Ot was an eventful night.

I'm actually surprised at how well the companion AI is. There are plenty of times I'll cross right along a river or climb my way up a sheer cliff only for them to still get to me. Sure, it may take them a bit of time to navigate their own way, but so far they've always managed to find me. I remember crossing a wide river piece and I kept running, leaving Lydia behind. She followed me along the river and eventually crossed at a bridge.

I only bring this up because I remember how terrible the companion AI was in Oblivion. They would run into rocks and become completely lost at times.

Anybody (or atleast any Nord) can use shouts. It's just that the Dragonborn has a natural aptitude for it which makes him a prodigy.

The Dragonborn is also the only being which can permanently slay a dragon, and this is done by absorbing his soul. Otherwise dragons can (and have) been slain only to be resurrected by Alduin.

I've been putting those off because I'm worried I'll get the same thing. My save file is up to about 9 MB, and I'm noticing more frequent issues. Have had more freezes in the last 2-3 days than in the first week that the game was out. And I've hit a couple areas, where even though there's little to no NPCs, the framerate drops to nothing and it's unplayable.

When I encountered some bad lag last week, I assumed I had just been playing too long (I had been playing for about 6-7 hours straight), so I let my PS3 rest for a while, and all was fine after that. But recently it's getting worse and starts happening after I've only been playing for an hour or two.

Patch is supposed to be coming out next week, and Bethesda claims it'll fix the PS3 issues. We'll see. I think I'll put the fort fights off until then, though.

Loved the main quest of this title. Surprisingly short. Maybe it's just me, but it seems as though things were a lot longer in Oblivion, including the Dark Brotherhood and the main story. Both very enjoyable, though.

If someone could shine some light on this for me... When you kill Alduin, I thought that was supposed to be the end of the dragon threat? Yet, after you kill Alduin, the dragons continue to fly about Skyrim and attack you. Don't get me wrong, I would be incredibly disappointed if the entire dragon theme disappeared after the main quest, but why wouldn't the rest of the dragons become friendly with the collapse of Alduin? Just curious if I missed a detail or something.

If you heard from Porthanuax, he said his shout would go out to all dragons of Alduins death, but not all would want to hear, hinting that there are still evil dragons. And those are the ones you still fight.

I'm positive nothing was left. This may have been because I ran across a pile of uneven rocks trying to get away from her, and she may have died while on it and clipped through the rocks, but I looked very hard and couldn't find any trace. And believe me, I was very reluctant to leave the room when she had a huge stash of various ingots and magic items on her.

I've also been unfortunate enough to find not one, but two seperate "monsters" that somehow managed to destroy my weapon the first time I hit them with it, leaving me unarmed and costing me my most powerful melee weapon at that time.

It's things like this that make me want to reload from a previous save, but then again this is Elder Scrolls and I'm only at level 20 now. I can replace everything I lost with something better, it's just going to take a little longer.

I'm positive nothing was left. This may have been because I ran across a pile of uneven rocks trying to get away from her, and she may have died while on it and clipped through the rocks

Bodies clip through uneven terrain very easily. I try not to kill people on hills because of losing out on the loot so often.

They don't destroy the weapons, they hit them so you drop them from your hands. Again, you can find them on the ground, this happened to me several times but managed to pick them up again.

Skyrim: Players discover hidden Morrowind, Cyrodiil templates

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/326951/skyrim-players-discover-hidden-morrowind-cyrodiil-templates/

An intrepid Skyrim explorer has travelled beyond the invisible walls of Skyrim and discovered that Bethesda has included Morrowind and Cyrodiil in the game's already vast landmass.

The adventurer, who posted his findings on Tumblr, ventured to Stendarr's Beacon, located at the south-eastern edge of Skyrim, along a path that comes to an end at a stone archway and an invisible wall.

As Tamriel's finest geographers will tell you the land beyond is Morrowind, and thanks to a bit of no-clip wizardry it has been revealed that Bethesda has actually gone to the trouble of recreating Morrowind's Solstheim and Vvardfell as well as Cyrodiil's Imperial City. Albeit in a scaled-down, low-res form.

What could this mean? Given the ambition shown in Skyrim itself we wouldn't put it past Bethesda to introduce these two regions in expansion packs. We can only hope.

Bethesda has said it's submitted a new patch for Skyrim, which should be available within two weeks.

I tried finding a way out of those mountains, and found the arch, and invisible wall. Figured there would be invisible walls at some places.

Looking forward to any expansion packs that are released, that increases the world. Morrowind would be cool, as I never played that.

Framerate issues are because it doesn't clear the cashe. Restarting clears it so you should be good to play. Whenever it gets too laggy just save and restart. That will fix it

I'm almost level 14 and haven't bothered climbing the mountain to speak to the Greybeards yet. I'm having way too much fun exploring and helping the citizens of Skyrim.

I'm at level 23, and I haven't done that yet either.

Hate myself for doing it, but got sick of load screens after death so turned difficulty down to novice.. On a side note, got the last shout power for unrelenting force....walked into giant camp and it sent one flying. Now the game feels almost too easy, but I don't have to load the game over and over when I get to a difficult boss...

aww come on man, novice? Turn it back ur a Dragonborn not nubborn just properly equip urself and scout every 10-20 step. Play it like ur playing MGS and get urself a good bow for backup weapon, I had a Orcish bow of scorching and that shit owns.

I have a bow that does amazing damage 32 to be exact. Debating turning it back up, as It was only just put down a while ago doing an ancient weapons quest....I was not doing any damage to the guy and he kept one shotting me. I also have a limited playtime sometimes and having it a bit easier gets me farther in shorter amounts of time!
Anyway, it's still a great game and will most likely be playing it for a year or two. Level 32 now I think, barely touched the main quest as well and this would be one of the only games I played on easy just for the sake of time. By the way....who has found the talking dog?

it depends on how high it is. i think the guards let you be unless its like 1000 fine. rift esp since its the center for the thieves guild.

on a second note, i just fought 2 dragons at once. it was absolutly intense. i was lucky i had a follower at that time, cus i normally don't and i would have died hardcore without it. got by the seat of my pants on that one. I'm wearing full daedric and she (the solitude housecarl) has full dragon with an enchanted glass weapon. i have enough money now, so i'm thinking about buying more property. I have the whiterun house, the solitude house, and the windhelm house.

has anyone found all the dragon priest mask? supposedly collecting them all and taking them to a specific location yields a 10th mask that has some pretty unique properties.

That's correct. You need the 8 dragon priest masks, plus a wooden mask that is found just outside the entrance to Labrynthian. Equipping this mask reveals the dragon priest shrine, where you can place the 8 masks, and a 9th is then given to you.

I think you'll run into two of the priests doing major questlines (one towards the end of the College quests, and I think there's another that's part of the main story). The other 6 are found throughout the world. I've heard, but can't confirm, that the "Letters from a friend" that you occasionally receive from couriers, that point you towards word walls, typically point you to walls where priests are at.

Of course you can always just google the locations and go hunting, but that's not nearly as fun. I've killed Moeaki (College questline), and Krosis (out in the world) so far. Krosis mask is awesome - 20% boost to archery, lockpicking, and alchemy.

I'm doing those quests now. Can't say no to a dog! :) But I have my doubts about it, because of his master, and somehow feel I'm being lead into a trap.

That dog can't keep up with my horse, but eventually he makes it to where I'm at, and if I stop to fight, he goes ahead to the destination.

My save file is over 8MB now, and getting sometimes severe frame rate fluctuations. :(

But now that Daggers mentioned of them, go ahead and throw those in there too. The melee combat is the biggest problem for me. Feels like these no impact behind my attacks at all. If I hit my enemy, I shouldn't feel like I'm hitting nothing or as if my sword is going right through them. It completely takes me out of the game. So now, I'm kinda stuck with using magic.

Skyrim Patch 1.2 Coming Early Next Week for All Platforms

http://www.gamezone.com/news/skyrim-patch-1-2-coming-early-next-week-for-all-platforms

Last week Bethesda announced that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim patch 1.2 was submitted to Sony and Microsoft for certification on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that a patch for the PC version was coming as well.

Until now, the only timeframe we had was a "current estimate" for the patch going live the week after Thanksgiving.

Today, we got some more clarificiation. Bethesda's VP of Marketing and PR Pete Hines updated fans that the patch should go live for all three updates (PS3, Xbox 360, and PC) during "first half of next week".

While the full list of bugs this patch would address wasn't released, Pete Hines did say that "improved performance for long-term play on PS3" was on the list for patch 1.2.

Hines promised that he would "provide a list of fixes once patch has been certed and no other changes will be made."

Pretty much in the same place as you. The lag seems to get better after a few minutes, though. Doesn't seem to continue getting worse as I keep playing. Nonetheless, I'm surprised Bethesda hasn't learned their lesson by now, granted most of their games have had similar issues to a lesser extent.

One thing I've noticed so far from being a caster. All the good stats unless I enchant my own stuff is basically on robes. I am not at the point where I can enchant armor to an insane amount yet because I mainly been concentrated on maxing my destruction. I'm basically a wizard at this point but I have quite a few skills on enchanting weapons and armor. however, depending on the creature or person shooting an arrow at me, sometimes I get killed in one shot with an arrow o.O

Any other casters out there get this as well. I was doing a weird mission and these falmores which I have seen before did a one shot on me, at first I thought it was just a fluke but when I did it again it happened again o.O I don't usually have a problem against caster unless they use that damn lightning bs that drains my magic like nothing but damn, one shot with an arrow, I am straffing and jumping like crazy which is what I have to do with some of the archers out in Skyrim. LOL

I have a big question though, I have only ran into this once and I know so far other people had to have run across this dude before. The headless horsemen, has anyone talked to this dude, I can never catch the guy :( I seen him twice since I started playing so I put in about maybe 40 hours into this game, maybe even 50 hours so far, but I haven't seen him sense.

I just want to express how I've been lately feeling about the game:

Total miraculousness.

I've never been so immersed in a game like that before. It simply offers you to live a life, oh and what a life Skyrim offers you to live. Vikings, dragons, magic? YES please. It's VERY huge and maddeningly detailed.

An insignificant thing happened to me while I was playing today, but it had huge impact. I was in Whiterun running around doing errands. You know when you walk near people you hear them talk right? So I ran by guards who were talking about a dungeon east of Whiterun and I got a notification that my map got updated. I didn't even stop or talk to them, just heard them. I was like wow! Now that's some real shit.

And I've just joined the Companions. EXCITEMENT. I got my own bed too! Haha. BTW can I safely store stuff where I sleep in the barracks?

Now I have a question; How can I cure beast form? I became a werewolf for the sole purpose of joining the Circle in the companions, but after the fact, I'm not interested in being one anymore. keep on doing those companion quests because at this point once you got into the circle you haven't completed much at all. There is a quest where you have to kill witches, kill all of them to get there heads and you will use them later, which will cure the wolf form if you want to.

I meant Companions questline, at one point you will have to kill witches and get there heads, later you will need to use them. If should really kill all the witches and get all there heads, you don't have to but it's a good idea to have them all just in case.

Did that college of winterhold line of quests, didn't that remind you of Harry Potter? I was so zoned into that questline that I couldn't break away from it. it really reminded me of Harry Potter. LOL

Today was a sad day in the land of Skyrim.

Faendal, my friend; my companion is dead... In an attempt to raise funds to redecorate our new one bedroom house in Whiterun (which has a wonderful view of the snowy mountains, incidentally) Faendal and I decided to go on an expedition.

Our main aim was to kill Krosis on Shearpoint but when we got there, it was clear one of us wouldn't get off that mountain. You see, a massive Dragon had taken up residence there, completely catching us by surprise. To save me, Faendal gave up his own life as the dragon swiftly dispatched him in a flurry of snow and ice. He fought valiantly and died bravely - his arrows aiming true until the very end. I'll never forget you, Faendal.

After dispatching the dragon, I decided it best to honour Faendal like any good warrior would:

I ransacked his body, stole his shit and left him rotting on the mountain - next to the remains of the bugger who killed him.

Could someone please tell me where Aela the Huntress lives? I just married her, and she said I could live with her in her house. The interwebz.. Well, they aren't coming through. Everything says she lives in a farm outside of Whiterun, but it doesn't seem to me that she lives in any of them. Any assistance would be very much appreciated!

@Elt - How much gold do you have?

@Goo - Good man, good man. I'm not sure where my old follower, Lydia, went. By the time I realized she was dead it was far too late to determine where it could have happened. :(

No idea man, I married her a while back, and she disappeared until I bought a house.

Oh, thats right, I remember finding her at the companions building in whiterun, just walking around inside.

Right. If you haven't done the Dark Brotherhood yet, do it. Once you complete it you get 20,000 gold. Now I only have about 4,000 gold because I just bought a 25,000 gold house in Solitude.

Yeah, just be ready to spend a lot of gold. Buying the house is 25,000, but if you want it to look decent, you'd better have another 10,000 or so on hand.

Yeah Cage, living in Solitude isn't cheap. Especially if you're trying to go for the 100,000 gold trophy, that really puts a dent in your efforts. I have no idea how I'm going to achieve that.

It's the city of the High King... Well, High Queen now. Also, Solitude is one of the more secluded and beautiful cities, so that probably factors into it as well. I'm curious, though, if the price of a home in Solitude would be different if I had waited to take control of it with the Stormcloaks before buying.

I didn't even know you could have a dog...

On the subject of my prison experience... Well, I'm a bit disappointed in Bethesda's AI. I was escaping prison... And yet, when I was in the Guard Barracks (instead of escaping through my jail cell door I excited through another panel in the ground) none of the guards seemed to register that I was escaping. I practically had to talk to them for them to come to the conclusion that I was supposed to be in jail.

You only have one lock pick in jail, and when I finally found where my belongings were, I broke that lock pick. I couldn't find a key for the life of me, so I did something I didn't think the game would actually let me do. I fast traveled to Riften, found Tonalia at the Thieves Guild, bought some lock picks, and went back into the prison to retrieve my belongings.

I'm glad the game let me do that, otherwise I would have been outraged at myself for trying to escape the prison unprepared, but it is completely unrealistic! It would never happen that way! They let me walk right out, and right back in to get my belongings, and then out again to do whatever I pleased! I would have thought that Bethesda would have created a bit better AI than that.

I hope it's a 'resurrect Faendal' update.

After having gone through a couple now, I have stopped using Companion NPCs entirely. They are good as mules, carrying extra weight so you don't have to, but every attack they make robs you of a little combat experience that would go to increasing your own level and skills. And they need more babysitting than they are worth.

But then again I play like I have ADHD, so I'm sure those little NPCs are going crazy just trying to figure out what path to take to get to me when I'm likely to change directions half way across a mountain ridge.

I assume he died and you can no longer get a new companion because it says you have one still lol?? Same thing happened to me with Lydia...not sure if the patch fixes this or not. However honestly they just get in the way more often then not and the only issue I came across was early in the game when I had killed 3 dragons and had to carry around bones/scales without a house...needless to say I could not carry anything else aside from my stuff.

Nah, it was just 'cos I missed his little Elven ass. Decided to reload a slightly older save and leave him in the comfort of BreezeHome, resting by the fire. Without him, I've found 3 new Shouts and got 3 Dragon Souls to use. Go figure.

Stole a horse from some Bandits and was attacked by a Dragon shortly after. Galloped as fast as I could (after playing Red Dead Redemption, horsey animations in Skyrim are pants incidentally!) to a Giant's camp fire. Then stood back as a Giant and Mammoth destroyed the Dragon. Free soul, Lol.

Nah. It's just mods made before the patch won't work.

Nah. It's just mods made before the patch won't work.

That depends on the mod.

Any mod that alters the exe will not work regardless of when it was made. The new patch requires Steam and an always-online internet connection. If Steam detects an incorrect .exe file then it will replace it with the correct one, breaking the mod.

An example would be the early method of making Skyrim Large Address Aware on 64-bit operating systems, allowing the game to use more than just 2GB of memory. The patch broke that.

I lost my Nightengale blade :(
was doing... forgotten legends (?) quest. In the last tomb where you fight all 3 previously fought undead at once as spirits, the one shouts to disarm you all the time. Was wielding glass dagger and Nightengale blade. After that got disarmed, I stuck with my glass bow and picked him off from a distance. Went back afterward and found a glass dagger I had also been using and summarily dropped. Never found my Nightengale blade though. I looked through that tomb for 1/2 hour before giving up. There was no possible way i missed it. It must have gotten stuck in a crack or something and I couldnt find it anywhere!

I also lost Lydia. She didnt die. At least, not to my knowledge. This is what happened. It actually relates to the above comment as well.
I ported to a previously discovered bandit camp close to my destination. My horse died in the escape (those bandits really wanted my head) and I left Lydia kneeling in the dirt. Once I reached my destination I poked around before heading inside hunting a bit and basically wasting time hoping Lydia would catch up. She didnt, so I walked in since sometimes that brings them so I dont have to go looking for them. She didnt show up. No problem, I thought, I'll just do this dungeon (see above and the loss of my wonderful blade...) and walk back out and she'll show up. No such luck.
I figured she had died somehow to the bandits. Booooo... but not really too much of a big deal. As a sneaky rogue, she interrupted my sneakiness more often than not and I had been considering leaving her at home anyway. So a few hours of gameplay later I get the message, "Your follower has grown tired of waiting and returned home." "Great," I thought, "I'll get to keep Lyds after all." So next time I was in Dragons Reach, I looked for her and couldnt find her. So I let a few hours pass by thinking she might come with/after the two brats come through the door. Nope. Wait some more? No luck. No more Lydia. For mysterious reasons.
