It has been announced that HBO's Pacific star Liam McIntyre will be taking over for Andy Whitfield as Spartacus. Whitfield come down with cancer that sidelined him from the show after the first season. It was thought that his cancer was in remission but it came back and caused him to retire from the show.
I never got around to watching The Pacific but I heard great things. Although I wish Whitfield could have returned it is understandable why he cannot. So what are your thoughts on this. I would like to know as I'm a big fan of the show but know nothing of McIntyre's work. Was it a good fit?

I guess he kind of has Andy's likeness but nobody could ever really replace him.

Also i've never seen the Pacific but have heard good things about it.
I wish Andy could continue the role but obviously that is out of anyones control.
Prequal starts next week and i heard that the second season will not be starting until 2012 so that will give him quite a while to get into shape and ready for the role.

Yes I'm just worried that the show will never have the same feel to it as it did with Whitfield at the helm but I hope he does a good job. On a side note how many episodes is the prequel supposed to be?

Just 6 episodes for the prequal.
I'm still not sure on how good the script will be for the second season since it'll now fall outside of the ludus.
Most shows that make changes like that go downhill eg Prison Break.

Yea I think they tried to do so much in the first season to pull in viewers and kind of took away a good bit of potential for follow up story. You know with all the characters that died in the first season. I'm with you, just going to have to wait and see with this one. Hope all goes well but I'm worried for this one. I really hope this show doesn't fall out like Rome did. Would be a pity to see such a caliber show like this go.

1. McIntyre will be alright...I wish it was Whitfield, and nobody will ever be able to replace him because he was just perfect for the role...
2. I REALLLLLY wish they were doing at least 10 episodes for the prequel...but ill take 6 to get my SPartacus fix
3. I am in agreement that I think they went a little overboard on the first season...I think they first season probably could have played out over two seasons, with the revolt taking place at the end of the second season...

Yea, i'll need to check out his work on the Pacific sometime. It looks like they could have choosen someone a lot worse though, some of the other contenders didn't really seem to match up.

6 episodes does sound really short but i just finished rewatching the first season over the Xmas holidays and each episode actually does go for quite a long time. (Most hour shows go for 40mins and then have adds that fill up the other 20mins but this one takes up most of the hour).

True, they are gonna have their work cutout for them trying to keep up the same pace they had in the first. I did read the other day that they had about 4 scripts to choose from for the second season tho.

My thoughts exactly. Me and my friends were all saying that in the finale. We were all like "Wow, that was a bit overboard even for a finale" It made it really good but could have been spanned out over 2 seasons and still would have been up to par. Could have even made the build up better.
The Pacific is a very good series. Not quite as good as Band of Brothers, but still pretty good. I looked up his role in the show, and he was only in one episode. On top of that, I don't even remember his character, so it must have been a very small role.

get Brain Austin Green, he looks a lot like the original Spartacus...I liked the Pacific a lot, so I have hope for this actor too
